new barbell

I have a new barbell... first time I use one

the plates are not like fixed. I have a clip I put to stop the plates from falling... it's not that easy to put that clip. you have to press hard. and there is a space between the plate and the clip.

is that normal? Did I make a bad purchase?

It's from a popular fitness store in Canada. Wal Mart here does not have a good barbell. And ordering from the internet makes the shipping expensive.

Cathe's barbell looks nice. The one I have is not black, it's metal color . I wish it was black.

Did I make a bad purchase? It's not that cheap too.

The good thing is that in that store, it's flexible. I can go and buy only one plate or as many as I want of any weight. So I found that it's a good option.

sorry... just was dying for a barbell and I feel I did not get the best.... or may be it's normal.

Can you not push the clip right up against the plate? And it's normal for the clips to be pretty stiff when they're new. You really have to squeeze them hard. Where did you get it?

no i can't push the clips right against the plate. there is a litle space. because the 2 handle of the clip get closet than the ring. so they are not a 100% straight. I mean it's not a big deal, but i wonder if that's normal

I think you're putting the clips on backwards. The little handles should point away from the plates, not towards them.

there is only one way i can put the clips
the handles are straight with the rings
may be the problem is the clips

I would check around other stores for different clips. The handles of mine are angled so they don't make contact with the plates. I have two pairs because the pair that came with the bar were so stiff, it was a hand workout to squeeze them. I purchased another set that are much easier to squeeze. They look like the picture above.

The handles should be angled a little bit. So, when you are putting the clips on, the handles should angle AWAY from the plates. That way they won't come into contact with the plate before the spring part does. Can you do that with them? Are the handles angled?

Hmmmm... straight would make it difficult. They definitely should be angled a bit. If you look at any of Cathe's weight workouts, check out her clips. The handles are angled so they bend away from the plates. That's what you want:)
