Never Again

Yesterday our family went to the movies to see The Kingdom Heaven. It wasn't bad. Anyhow, DH got popcorn. Complained not enough butter so got more butter. Needless to say, I ate some and most of you all know how much I strive to avoid these kinds of Evils. I haven't had butter popcorn in about 3 months and it made me sick to my stomach. I honestly thought DH was going to have to pull over so I could puke.
So when you keep on keeping on with good eating habits and then try to go back after a few months...WATCH OUT, you won't want to. You won't need to rely on those mental pictures, if you do, you will just want to puke instead!
Never again!

Oh yeah, that's happened to me too. Actually the first time I had a little binge after I started Atkins, my stomach hurt so bad I was doubled over in pain. But I was relieved to hear it was kidney stones & had nothing to do with what I ate.

Anyway, now whenever I eat stuff like pizza, or hoagies, or sweet stuff like cookies & ice cream, I get a little light headed. When you do low carb, the sudden introduction of carbs to your system can make you feel weird. The upside though is I usually have a great workout the following day.

I just did KPC, and please don't say "EEEEWWWWWW" again, but my sweat smelled like ammonia. Guess I am working it off, huh? Too much information? Sorry. :7
O.k., got to get off my lazy butt and finish with Super Sets now.
Much to do...have a great day, Maximus!

I OD'd on movie popcorn about a month ago and said NEVER MORE! The huge stomach cramps I had for days afterwards was NOT WORTH IT!!! I'll still eat it occasionally - but only a SMALL AMOUNT!!!

I had ice cream with the kids this weekend and that didn't make my stomach feel so good, either. I think my body is trying to tell me something!

Several years ago, I "splurged" on some movie popcorn (a large one--yikes) and rootbeer. I ended up waking up at about 1 a.m., unable to breath well, and itchy. I looked in the mirror, and had hives on my back. I had to drive myself to the emergency room!

I wonder if it's the so called "butter" they put on there? I bet when you guys have normal popcorn at home you don't get sick. I think it's that nasty, oily, yellow crap they put on there for "flavor" that might be doing a number on you.

Maximus,

Yes, I am thinking it is all that butter. Ugh, I won't do that again....putting all that sludge in my body. Didn't wake up bloated though, thank goodness.

Yikes! Do I dare tell you that hubby, in-laws & I have popcorn every weekend with butter? Guess I have built up a resistance to the harmful effects. (Except the ones showing on my thighs!!!) Now, it seems I get stomach cramps if I don't eat salads for lunch. Can't figure that out? http://www.fun-gifs.de/3danimiertegifs/food/toss_salad_wooden_bowl_md_wht.gif

You know, come to think of it,the last time we went to the movies (february), i ate some popcorn and felt sick all evening too.
I was blaming it on the saltiness, but maybe it was the popcorn.
It smells so good, and you know it is hard to eat just one handful.

Better off to "just say no" }(

I too have got sick when eating domething I am not use to. Like crab enchiladas on mothers day. It was so rich and I am not use to that. It made me nausous:( Charlote I am so amazed you even ate any popcorn! Didn't you do your usual visual thing? :)

I just went through this as well. Went to IHOP after we seen "Monster in Law" (great movie, by the way) and I ordered the banana nut pancakes. First off, this dish could have served three people easily. It was loaded with whipped cream and served with banana nut syrup. I don't think there is a restaurant out there that knows what a "service size" is. I ate half which was WAY too much!

Needless to say, I was sick all night long. I can't even go out and enjoy a meal anymore, I immediately get sick.

Hi Charlotte -

I did the same exact thing back in February "picking" out of my BF's bucket. And he adds xtra butter AND salt. YUCK!!

Re: the ammonia. I used to wonder why I smelled ammonia sometimes after working out - and came across this site:

http://www.hussman.org/fitness/ that says:

In general, you'll maximize your fat loss if you wait about an hour after your workouts before eating. The exception, in my view, is when you smell ammonia. Ammonia is essentially nitrogen, and that sensation after a workout is a signal that you've raised your cortisol levels enough to trigger the breakdown of amino acids by the liver (gluconeogenesis). When the body needs energy, it metabolizes glycogen, then fat, then protein. If one isn't fast enough, it goes down the list. But if it's going to feed on protein, you want it to go after something other than muscle tissue. So if you smell ammonia, you should have a protein and carbohydrate containing supplement immediately after your workout, preferably along with a protein stimulating supplement such as L-Leucine (whey protein is about 20-25% Leucine).

So now I drink a smoothie or some whey protein mixed in juice based on this guy's advice. Don't want my body using all that hard earned muscle for energy!!

Joni,

Thanks for the tip!

Terri,

My visual was on handicap mode yesterday. x( Or wait, I didn't I have visual image for eating the popcorn, but now I do...girl puking along the side of the road, that would be me!
That 4 mile hike up the mountain made me extra hungry and I dunno, but I was a very wicked girl! Shame...shame...shame!

I have to say, the sound of this dish makes me drool
AAAHHhhh(think Homer simpson around donuts ;-)

Movie popcorn is so gross, I won't even touch it. And that is saying something, because there are not very many things that I won't eat! LOL!

One thing that made me feel very sick to my stomach, which really surprised me, was a salad from our cafeteria at work. The chef prepared it while I waited and I watched her pile on loads of fried chicken breast and about a quart of ranch dressing and about half a cup of crumbled bacon - all of this junk onto perfectly good baby spinach. If I had known she would do this, I would have told her to put all that crap on the side. But, it was too late and I had to eat it. I couldn't get through 1/3 of it before it made me feel so sick that I had to go home from work early. Ugh! x(

3 years ago, I would have eaten every bite of that salad and not thought twice about it. I'm glad things have changed!
