Netflix....YES or NO?

I've seen that several of you use Netflix as your movie rental source. I'm looking for the pros and cons if you don't mind. DH and I are thinking about going for it but I'd like some feedback.

Thanks!

Hi Candi!

PROS:
convenience!!
inexpensive (at least around here, it's cheaper than Blockbuster)
choice of membership plans
good selections

CONS:
they play games with delivery dates. My only complaint really.

GO FOR IT, Candi! You won't ever look back.

Netflix is lovely; absolutely lovely. We have seen so many movies- they make it so easy!!! We do the unlimited 3 at a time program; if a movie comes and we simply aren't in the mood, we send it back and watch one of the other two!

They also have fitness dvds, you know... I've saved a bundle by being able to try them out first!!!! I've also found a few nice ones for myself I want to buy. (Years ago, before I "met" Cathe... I've sold those by now!)

Can't recommend Netflix enough. LOVE IT.

I use Blockbuster online and LOVE it! If you have a local Blockbuster - it is really the better deal in that you get 2 free rental coupons each month, and free movie coupons every couple of months. I do the 3 at a time as well - and then have to option to goto the local store and pick up a movie or a game if I want - for free. :) Helps pay for itself that way!

I have used Netflix since 11/05 and I really like it. At first we were on the one at a time plan, but in Feb we changed to the 3 at a time plan. I like this plan a little better because sometimes it is hard to gauge what you are in the mood for and like Amy said, if you aren't in the mood for that particular movie send it back and watch something else. I haven't had too many problems with the service. Once in awhile they send the wrong movie or we don't recieve a movie, but it really hasn't been that bad. I also haven't personally experienced them not shipping movies to us or anything. Also, the fitness DVDs are pretty good. It is a nice way to try things!!! Another great thing is you can always cancel whenever you want if you don't like it.

We use netflix and we love it, the only con is that if you don't get the new releases right away then they usually have a long wait. We always have plenty on our list though.

I've used Netflix and BB Online. I loved Netflix when I had it, but then BB Online came out and they had a cheaper deal plus the freebie coupons (which I used for games - my kids are really into gaming), so that seemed a better deal. However, BB soon reverted to its old ways of never having anything in stock. And then the price of the online version rose to the same as Netflix, so I cancelled.

I just came back to Netflix primarily for the SHEER VOLUME of fitness workouts available. Seriously. I was amazed. Definitely worth the monthly fee, and far more convenient than hoping the local store will have something you want to watch.

Good luck!
Marie

I say a definite yes. They do play around with you on shipping if you order a lot of movies, but it is still a lot cheaper and more convenient that going to the video store. It is almost $5 to rent a video around here, so get only 5 videos a month and you get your money's worth. We get a lot more than that.

DH and I use it mainly to watch tv shows because we don't have the time/patience to watch a full length movie except on weekends. We have caught up on a lot of great shows that require you to watch every episode to really get into it. For example, we caught up on all of 24, Lost, and are now catching up on Alias. You can also watch a lot of HBO series without having to pay the $10+ a month for HBO.

I love Netflix. I've had it since 1/06 and haven't had any problems getting new releases. Sometimes they ship out new releases on the Monday before they are "officially" released. I've heard some people have problems such as slow service if they are heavy renters (which I am) and have been a member for awhile. I just hope that doesn't happen to me. I haven't tried any exercise videos yet. I may do so in the near future.

I love NetFlix. I never would have seen The Sopranos if it wasn't for Netflix. :)

Stay far away from Netflix. ;) Just kidding.

I love Netflix. I have had nothing but great service from this company.

Hey all:

Just wanted to add that I am probably going to cancel my netflix. I know above I said I like it, but after getting no help from customer service regarding my delayed shipping, I googled "netflix problems" etc. and came up with a bunch of distasteful stuff. Here's one of the links:

http://www.manuelsweb.com/netflixjournal.htm

Apparently Netflix practices "throttling" which means slowing down the accounts of customers who have busy accounts. Basically it means if they lose money on you, they'll mess with your service and then try to blame it on the post office. I understand they are in the business of making money, but then they shouldn't advertise "one day shipping" and "unlimited" rentals. In the scheme of things netflix doesn't matter much, but I'm tired of being endlessly screwed with by these companies. What ever happened to fair service for fair price? I'm going to try greencine.com. They have same prices and a good reputation, and advertise "no throttling."

This is just and FYI and not a slam on anyone who uses netflix. Until five minutes ago I did too.

Bummed,

Sparrow

I have been a member since 2/05. I am soooo satisfied. I get my movies within 3 days I send it back say on Monday they email me on tuesday they have received and the same day they usually send out my next one and I get it on Wednesday I have never received cracked, dirty or scratched. My sister had blockbuster she said Netflix had a much better selection of older movies (I am only going by her words) I am a huge movie buff so speedy turnaround is a biggie for me. We do not play video games. You do get 2 coupons for instore at blockbuster so if you have blockbuster within a reasonable drive it may be more worth it. Also the video games I do not know if Netflix has anything to do with that I think my brother said you got coupons for those too. I choose to stay with Netflix because I signed up with them first they were the first to have the idea and I am a committed customer to them. Good Luck I am sure you would not be disappointed with either.
