Need some help from Mom's

Hello everyone,

Here is my situation. My DD is almost 8 mos old and refuses to take a nap unless she is in her swing. I thought I had broken her of the habit but I had knee surgery 2 weeks ago and getting up the stairs with her has been really hard so I let her slide a few days. For the past 7 days I have tried to put her in her crib and all she ends up doing is pulling herself up on the side of the crib almost to a standing positon or sits up. If she actually does take a nap in the swing, it is only for about 30 mins and she is a nightmare from 6-8pm or until she falls asleep. Dinner time is no longer at our house with her. I am at a loss and having a crabby baby at night time is starting to get stressful. I know she needs a nap, but I just don't know what to do with her.

Anybody has this problem or can make sugguestions on how to get past this?? Help would be greatly appreciated!

First of all, i feel for you. A sleep deprived kid is a nightmare. A great book is healthy child, healthy sleep. make sure the crib sides are at a position that she can't crawl out of and then at a time you know she is tired, let her cry it out. Eventually she will learn that you are keeping her in her crib and she will give up and go to sleep.

There is a WONDERFUL book called Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth MD. It will teach you how to get your babe to sleep. My 1st was a horrendous sleeper until I found this book when she was 18 mon. old. She was sleeping thru the night in 3 nights!!! I read this book from day 1 w/ my 2nd baby. She is now 2 and I never have had any probs. w/ her sleep. She is a dream baby!! If you only read 1 book about parenting this is the one to get. A well-rested baby is a happy baby. And that makes a happy mama! Good luck!
