Need some help coming up with a good workout plan

Cathlete
I have a gym membership and the trainer told me to do 2 classes a wekk. Then the other day 1 long cardio and the other 2 days short cardio with strength.

But

What videos do you like at home.

My goal is to loose about 10lbs or so. More so inches but more so tone:)

What would be a good rotation...can you share yours:) Not sure if the gym membership is worth it when I have everything at home.

Free weights, Bands, Balls, steps and so on.

What rotation have you had good luck with?

Hope you can help or offer some advice.

Thanks

Tammy

Hi.

A good basic rotation to start building from is 3 days of strength alternated with 3 days of cardio and tweak it according to your personal needs from there.

The trainer gave you a 5 day per week rotation. Is this due to your availability or just b/c that's what he/she thought was appropriate for you?

If you are more interested in calorie burn and have 5, not 6 days, to work out then drop one weight work out and make it 3 cardio days and 2 weight days. You could also throw cardio and weight circuits in place of one or both of the f/b weight work outs if you feel you need even more cardio.

If you are more interested in muscular gains of any sort then keep that 3rd weight work out in there. Maybe make it 2 days straight cardio, 2 f/b weight work outs and 1 circuit work out so you essentially get 3 days of weights and 3 days of cardio in 5 days!

Just some suggestions. There are so many ways to work it. You have to find what's best for you. I've been doing this for 8 years and always switching things around b/c the same thing doesn't work for everyone and also doesn't work forever. ;)

Good luck!:)

She gave it to me cause I try to aim for 5 days...but think I need to add in a 6th.

So 3 days cardio...I got that but the strength is where I have a hard time. I had some free PT sessions and she gave me some great ideas that use core work along with bands.

What are some good strength videos that I can use in a rotation?

Thanks again:)

Well that's easy! Anything by Cathe ofcourse! ;)

If you don't want to have to create a rotation from scratch you can look into Cathe's CTX (Cross Train Express) series or her 4DS series. They are both excellent sets that are a rotation unto themselves. No thinking required! :)

CTX is based on 6 days.
4 DS is based on 4 days.

Both can be tweaked to fit your needs though, whatever they might be.

HTH! :)

Ha...

I have cathe supersets and push pull also legs and glutes. I have many other instructors as well. As far as cathe...love her strength and some cardio but not step:( I just can not get into step aerobics.

Non cathe I have
squeeze/...all
p57 first series
Jillian no more trouble zones
Ripped to the core
turbo fire
clx
p90
more jillian

My problem is I get bored fast...lol

So if I do three days cardio...I got that...treadmill, kickboxing, turbo fire, spinning and so on...

The strength is what I have a hard time with....should I do certain body parts certain days?

Tammy:)

Have you looked into STS? Definitely a strength builder! It's 3 days weights, and recommended 3 days cardio. Another good choice for split workouts was mentioned above with 4 Day Split, and the Gym Styles series of 3 workouts is fantastic.

If you only want to do weights 2x/week, go for full body workouts, again STS Total body is GREAT! MuscleMax is another winner, then for some more endurance based weight workouts, there is High Reps (love it), and many others.

Cardio, I'm a believer in just doing what I feel like doing that day. BTW, I don't like step either, never clicked with me.

Oh should add, if you are newer to weight lifting, or have not done it consistently for a while, full body workouts to start are usually recommended.

Just using the Cathe weight training vids you have is enough good stuff there to make up a great rotation! Think of the premixes! :D Then you can fill in the blanks with whatever cardio you like.

As for how to set up the weight training. It's entirely up to you...there's one body part per day, 3 day splits, 4 day splits, upper/lower splits, full body. You just gotta close your eyes and point to one and give it shot! :D If it's not workin' for you after a few weeks then change it up and try something else.;)

Splits:
STS

Full body:
STS total body and high reps

I tend to be partial to newer stuff.

Yes, I agree. STS the series and STS TB are both outstanding!:D

If you want to go with a less expensive split series that does not include the cardio with it, then I agree that Gym Styles are the way to go.

This was my best rotation last year, or favorite I should say Breaking News was actually my best I think. It's based on Cathe's latest releases and Ilaria Montagnani's latest kickboxing+

you could sub the step with cardio of choice & use your turbo fire for KBX?

I only mention because this group of Cathe's strength videos is really good:
STS Total Body, High Reps, & Lower Body Blast, can easily fit into a weekly schedule, every other day.....:)

My favorites are 4DS and gym styles for splits and high reps for full body. Also butts and guts or lower body blast are killer lower body workouts and with butts and guts you get 2 ab workouts.

Actually I would have to recommend 4DS the most out of that and GS because you get 4 really fun cardio workouts and 2 ab workouts. Gym Styles doesn't include abs.

This is great...thank you everyone

Tell me more about Gym Style and STS

What were your results?

Is STS worth the price? I have p90x and clx...so how is this different is it worth the price if I have the others already?

Thanks again

Tammy

Based on what I have should I be adding more of a split type series

I like the idea of doing cardio 3 times a week. 1 total body and 2 weights......I think that is what was suggested?

Maybe one week do heavy next week do p57 and squeezes?
