Hi Everyone! I just turned 31 and have been wanting to have a baby for a long time. Although hubby and I have been married for a while, the timing was never right - not enough savings, house too small etc. Now we both feel that things are in place for a new member in the family. But I haven't had a period for 2 months now. I went to my GP who did some tests. She confirmed that I wasn't pregnant and everything came back normal. She said that perhaps stress was the culprit. I have just recovered from an ED and tend to maintain my weight at the low end (96 lbs and I am 5ft 3") but she felt that was OK. Could I be exercising too intensely? I am not under any stress at the moment, so I am kind of confused. Has anyone else had this happen to them. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

How hard/how often do you exercise? Your low weight concerns me and overexcise could definitely lead to fertility problems.

Thanks for your response. I normally exercise no more than 60 minutes per day unless the tape is a bit a longer (like MIC). I also limit intense cardio to 2 hours per week. If I feel the need for more cardio - I just walk. I lift 3 or 4 times per week. I also take a day off for rest every 4 days. I am very careful about limiting the exercise and eating good amounts of food because of the eating disorder I had. I am bit stumped as to what the problem is. I am hoping its as simple as gaining a few pounds.

When I was anorexic several years ago, I was diagnosed with hypothalamus dysfunction (caused by the ED) which kept me from getting periods even with meds. It may take your body some time to recover from your ED.
We had a "surprise" pregnancy and just had a baby girl 3 months ago.
Good luck!

Hi Erica - you're right! I think I need time to allow my body to settle at a weight it is comfortable with etc. I guess I need to relax and continue with a healthy diet and exercise routine. Congratulations on the birth of your little baby girl. Isn't it wonderful when things like that happen? You must be so happy!

sorry to but in, but I have been infertile for 7 years and have done a lot of research....

I am not an expert or doctor, but IMHO.....
Being at a low weight can definitely hinder conception. I think you should SLOWLY put on 10lbs, this will help regulate your periods and provide a better conception environment. yes, I know women don't like to gain weight, but there has been several success stories with underweight females, gaining a little weight and conceiving.

I recomend the book " Taking Charge of your fertility " by toni weschlen(i'm not sure i spelled that right)
