Need PC/Printer Advice

Hello Friends of the Forum.

I have just boutght a new HP Deskjet printer D2445. My problem is that my PC tower has the old serial port hookup so I cannot connect my printer to my computer. Tonight, I went to Best Buy and suggested me to GOOGLE search for one. My concern is that I don't know any of these vendors and a little leary about it. My pc tower is a Gateway Emachines with Windows XP and is about 2-3 years old.

Please, if you've been in this situation, where did you find your Serial port cable (cord).

Thank you for your help in advance.

I'm a little confused...if your PC is only 2-3 years old and has XP, shouldn't it still have USB ports? I have an old gateway pc from 1998 running windows 98 that has USB ports.

It shouldn't matter that you have a serial or parallel port that you used to use for your old printer. If you have a USB port, you can use that for a modern USB printer. Ignore the old ports; you won't need them anymore.

I looked up the printer and it says it has a USB connection. If it didn't come with a cable, you should get a USB cable for it, not a serial or parallel cable.

Unless I've misunderstood your question. If so, I apologize.

edit: And if your USB ports are all being used, then what you need is a USB hub so that you can add more USB ports to your computer so you can hook up your new printer to that.

Good luck!

Hello Jodi.

You've just saved me ALOT of headache and confusion. Yes, I do have spare UBS ports in front and back of my pc and now I will go back to Best Buy and get one. And, I will ignore my old serial port on it.
THANK YOU for your great advice and homework on my printer. I was hoping for an answer on this. And, I'm happy my pc can accomodate this printer too.

Thank You Very Much, I'm truly grateful.
