Need help with rotation ideas . . .

LAST EDITED ON Feb-25-01 AT 12:37PM (Est)[p]I've been doing the mosquito.net firm rotation for 6 weeks now and haven't lost any weight at all, although I have noticed muscle gain. I really need to lose 25 pounds though, so what to do, what to do? I know I need to up the cardio, but to what? I'm thinking 3 days a week cardio and 2 of weights? And how to divide up the weights? I have a bunch of the Firms, Cathe's PS series now (just got them, but don't know how to divide them into 2 days only). I don't have 2 hours a day to exercise. I also have the wedding tape, step Jam, Step Works (too hard for me now), and Step Heat, the Kathy Smith step videos, etc. Any suggestions on how to put this all together? Thanks for any input . . . Peggy

P.S. I had foot surgery a year ago and so far can only do step videos for my aerobics . . .must be something about the stretching of the calf I guess. The floor aerobics of some the Firm's just kills my foot!

Hi, I'm not Cathe (boy dont I wish I was though, lol) and I'm not at all familiar with the mosquito.net workout (I only have Cathe tapes plus a few select others, no Firm tapes)but I've done tons of searches for rotations and have a few stored up. Anyway, I'm not sure how many days a week you're doing cardio/strength right now, but here's a sample rotation based on some I've seen posted. Maybe you could do each one for 4 weeks, and of course modify if I've included too much/not enough cardio days/strength days. If you dont have an interval based cardio workout already I recommend it for a great shock to the system. Interval Max is awesome and kicks my butt, Reebok's Intense Moves is a bit easier and cheaper (I just bought it for $10). Well, enough babbbling, lol....

ROTATION 1
Step/cardio ie. Step Heat
Wedding video
Step/cardio ie. Interval Max
Rest
Step/cardio ie. Step Jam
Wedding video
Step/cardio ie. Interval Max
Rest

ROTATION 2
30 min cardio + PS BBA
PS LA
30 min cardio + PS CST
Rest
30 min cardio + PS BBA
PS LA or cardio of choice
30 min cardio + PS CST
Rest

I know you said you dont have 2 hours to workout but doing a 30 min cardio plus PS in the same day is slightly longer than an hour since you arent going to have do the warmup of both tapes, and you'll only do one cool down obviously. Well I hope this is helpful, just my humble two cents :)

Stacy~

Thank you so much . . . you're a lifesaver! I really needed to get some idea of which direction to go in here, and you've really helped. I don't have an interval tape, yet, have been trying to trade for Interval Max over at Firm, but no luck yet. Will keep looking, though. I have printed this out so I have a good guide! Thanks again . . . I really appreciate the input!

Hi Peggy, glad to know my humble two cents has helped someone! But, if you're still having a hard time finding Interval Max, Intense Moves is a really good substitute as I've already mentioned. I bought mine at the local Target store even though I already owned Interval Max and I'm really glad I did. It's good for those days when you arent quite up to doing Interval Max but still want to feel like you've done more than just a step tape (as if any of Cathe's tapes are "just" step tapes, but you know what I mean).

Have fun,

Stacy

Hi Peggy!

Here's what I'm doing to break through my training plateau! I'm trying a circuit rotation for a while. Circuits are great choice - you get weight training with some high intensity cardio. I know it sounds a little like some of the Firm tapes but it's different! I've used Firms before and this is definitely more to my liking.

Anyway I'm using Cathe's Circuit Max, Reebok's Step Circuit Challenge and Keli Roberts' Circuit Training! I'm only getting in two circuit training sessions per week because I enjoy my Saturday Power Pump class. So here's what I do

Sun- Cardio, Yoga
Mon- Circuit
Tue- Cardio
Wed- Rest
Thu- Circuit
Fri- Cardio
Sat- Power Pump

I just started this but I felt that my body needed a jolt and I needed something new to do. I'm trying this for 6-8 weeks. Hopefully I'll get the results I'm looking for! :) I'm also thinking of adding 1 additional ab exercise just before the cooldown on the circuit days. One of my goals is to focus on lower ab training so I'll do an additional 20 reps on circuit days. I may also add floor legwork on the cardio days. So each workout session should last roughly an hour and going over an hour on the days with the legwork. (This will be floorwork from Volume 1, PS: SLA or Men of Steel Legs.) But not too much over that hour! :)

Let me know what you think!

Stacy - Interval Max is on my to buy list along with a few others of Cathe. Intense Moves is on it's way to me. Thanks for the info on it though! Do you by chance have Aero Step? What do you think of that? I should be getting this one by the weekend. :)

Hi Guys~

Thanks so much for the info, Stacy! I haven't found anyone trading the Intense Moves (but a lot are asking for it). Our Target here doesn't carry any Reebok and neither does our Walmart. I did just trade for Keli Roberts Ultimate circuit, though, so I hope that helps. Still on the lookout for Interval Max . . . maybe someday if I'm a good girl, lol. Might have to go and buy these if I get too antsy before they come up for trade. These are really good suggestions and give me some direction. The Firm kinda had me brainwashed into thinking it was me if it didn't work, so I'm glad to be trying something else and hearing other people doing other things with good results. Thanks so much for your help and your comments!
And if you can think of any other ones I might like please let me know! I just printed out a list of the CIA tapes (can't ever figure out what they are just from that number people list).

About those CIA tapes....Ive never done a CIA tape before, mainly b/c I could never figure out which one to get based on the number..what kind of naming system is that anyways???? I'm interested in mostly intense step tapes, I like to have alot of step tapes available for variety. Maybe you could pass along some titles if you know of any good ones. Also, back to Intense Moves...I saw it at the mall yesterday at one of the music stores that also sells videos, I'm pretty sure it was Camelot music.

Thanks!

Stacy

Hey guys!!

Just picked up Intense Moves in a trade, so I'm pretty jazzed about it now that you guys have given it such good reviews! Also got Keli Roberts Ultimate Circuit and BodyMax. Hope these get me better results! RE: the CIA tapes, I went to the VF home page and went to video instructors and clicked on CIA. From there I went to their home page and then the catlog, where, surprise, suprise, all the numbers were hooked up to description and instructors!! You're right . . .it's a ridiculous way to try to catalog tapes! Anyhow, thanks for the support and advice . . .I really appreciate it! Never considered the interval tapes and hope I can do them. At least it's something to aspire to. Also got Keli Roberts Ultimate Step. I agree, I like a lot of variety in my step tapes, too! Off to work out. . .I think Step Jam tonight . . .Peggy

Congrats on finally finding Intense Moves! I just did it this morning as a matter of fact and then followed it up with PS BBA. I'm going to have to check out the CIA home page, thanks for the info. I'm currently waiting for Step Jam and Step Max to arrive in the mail...that will complete my Cathe library. I watched Step Works last night as I was riding my recumbent bike my favorite way to preview tapes)...looks pretty tough, that's my next challenge. Let us know what you think of the interval tapes! It's a great feeling to know you've helped someone else because at the same time it also inspires me to get back out there and kick some butt (or get my butt kicked, however you want to look at it!)

Enjoy,

Stacy

Stacy~

I have Step Works too and decided after previewing it that it will be waiting for me for a while . . .looks like a tough one! I had to lol because I also usually preview my tapes while I'm on the recumbant bike! I don't know too many other people that have them yet, but it was the ONLY thing I could do for a long time after my foot surgery. The regular bike stance was too hard on my foot. Now I really love it and would be hard pressed to go back to a regular exercise bike. . . I'm hoping to get my circuit tapes by mid-week . . .will let ya know how it's going! I love Step Jam, but am still really worn out by the end of it. But I did drop 2 pounds this week with the increased cardio, so I'm hoping that's a good sign as I didn't change my eating habits any.

Have a good weekend!
