Cathlete
Hi,
I'am Amy, just started with Cathe about three weeks ago. Purchased basic step, love it but did struggle to catch my breath. I've been doing step aerobics for a year now, lost 32 pds and around 26 inches. but I've been confused on why my weight lost stopped over 4 mnths ago. as of last monday i started a food dairy, and started really watching it(eating around12-18hundred calories)! Has anybody else out there had a weightloss platou(spelling)! all of my friends say I'm too focused on it(all i talk about)but my appearance is very important too me, I'am 27 and 5'2 and weigh around 220. so yes, my weight is a big factor in my life! can anyone give me some advice? sometimes I feel like just throwing my hands in the air and giving up! it effects my mood and when Iam sad, i just want to eat more! My husband(bless his heart) is very supporting.

Thanks for any advice! Happy Holidays!!

Welcome, Amy!

First, congratulations on the weight loss! That is just wonderful!

Second, plateaus are pretty common, especially if you are doing the same kind of exercises over and over - the body adapts and no longer finds them challenging. If you are doing only step for cardio, I would suggest trying some kickboxing and hi-lo to mix it up. Also, are you training with weights? Weight training is an integral part of an exercise program as it gives the metabolism a real boost (not to mention how it challenges the body in other ways).

Good luck! And don't worry about your friends; we're all dogged by people who think we're compulsive, obsessive exercise maniacs with no other interests in life. (I always say, I'd much rather have my obsession than some others out there. :) )

Just to add to Marie's comments, it could be that you're not eating enough. 1200 calories is pretty low, especially if you're working out. I totally agree that you should add in some extra strength training, and mix up the cardio a bit:)

Hi
Amy here,
Thanks for the advice,I do some weight lifting with dumbells just the normal stuff,5 pds, i do 3 sets of 20.I do that 3 times a week.
Thought about getting Cathe's body fusion,it has weight lifting in it.Maybe I need to change my whole routine!
What do you guys think?

Hi Amy, you've come to the right place if you are obsessive about your weight and appearance. I agree that you need to include more weight work. Have you looked into any of Cathe's weight workouts like Muscle Endurance and the Gym Styles? What you are experiencing is normal and I think you are doing great. Try to be patient, mix up your workouts a little more, maybe increase your calorie count with a clean snack or two and the weight will begin to drop again.

I'm sorry I guess that dosen't really explain anything(ha)
well I do,
the side ladderals(spelling)
the shoulder shrugs
biceps curls
bent over ladderal raises
and don't know what there called but basically raise the dumbells in front of me up and down with my wrist straight!(does that make sense?)
and I do the basic step 3 times a wk

Question, what is Hi,Low? I know what kickboxing is!
Im new to all of this?

Hi/Lo is high and low impact floor aerobics, not using a step.

I think you should definitely add a bit more cardio to your schedule - maybe try for one extra day - and get Body Fusion so you can start adding in more structured weight work. Cathe has a really great beginner's rotation in the Video/DVD Rotations forum that would probably be perfect for helping you set up a regular workout schedule that includes all that you need. And I agree with Robin about adding in some clean snacks to your diet. What do your meals look like now?

Hi shelly
In answer to your question! I try and keep my breakfast and lunch around 300 calories, with a salad or something and for supper I eat a portion size of whatever my husband is eating, I keep my dinner light as possible, but with two kids and a husband who's not on a diet, I usually end up cooking me something different!

what kind of "clean snacks" and what are they?
And another thing, how do you guys find the time to work out more than an hour a day, my kids are climbing the walls by then?
I have a 19 month old and a 5 year old who starts school in september(ya,me!)thought about working out after they go to bed!

Thanks for all advice, I'll take it!

Amy

Hi Amy. Congrats on your weight loss. You will get tons of good advice here. BTW, many of us DON'T work out more than an hour a day. I rarely do. An hour is just fine. I started working out in the a.m.s when my kids were little, and I still do! Good luck:D

Hi
Amy here,

I just looked at all of cathe's dvd and WOW! there are so many too choose from, if I'am going to add a new cardio, what about Circuit Max + Cardio Kicks DVD!It looks like in the video clip that you need a lot of space! Anymore suggestions?
BTW-just bought body fusion, can't wait to start it!

Welcome Amy!!

As for suggestions about which Cathe videos to buy, you will eventually buy them all!! Cathe, for some reason, is an addiction. I just can't explain it, but she is!!! Good Luck!!:) :)
