Nancy324,

You seem to know a lot about diet and health. I am 15 and am just learning about different kinds of food, what's good for you and what you should avoid. Do you have any suggestions for a beginner/starter book that would be good for me to learn about these things? I am writing you while drinking Nestle Pure Life Orange Splash water, which contains Splenda! No wonder I feel like crap!

Thanks for any advice,

Jenn

Hi Jenn and welcome to the forums.

Not Nancy here but gotta throw my 2 cents in!;)

I use Splenda every day in my coffee and feel great! You can't cut everything out. It's just not realistic. A little splenda will not "hurt" most people but you could be one of those people whose bodies can not handle it. If you are concerned, stop using products that contain it for a few weeks and see if you feel better but do so without changing anything else in your diet. :)

Wendy,

My friends think it's the apples I eat. I have 2 a day. I think I will do what you suggested.

So far, I have learned a lot just reading through the forums.

Thank you!
Jenn

Jenn,

Why would anyone think apples would hurt you!?! Unless you are allergic ofcourse.

Let us know how the Splenda test pans out!

Jenn, I really don't know any more about diet and health than most Catheites. This is a VERY educated crowd.

I apologize if my post on the ice cream thread was confusing. My comment was not directed at Splenda at all; it was directed at SORBITOL, which I think most people have a bad reaction to in varying quantities. I haven't heard of anyone having a bad reaction to Splenda. I was just saying that ice cream which states on the container in large letters that it is "sweetened with Splenda" is ACTUALLY loaded with sorbitol, but you won't know it unless you read the list of ingredients in the fine print.

I don't see why your Nestle Pure Life Orange Splash Water should make you feel like crap. If you want to research the Catheite's recommendations on eating well, do a search on "clean eating" and you will find many topics to read!

ETA: I'm sure someone else here can help you with book recommendations. Any takers?

Lord knows I'm no expert, but I've been trying to clean up my diet too. I just signed up for a free trial issue of Clean Eating magazine. You may want to go to their Web site and do the same. If you like it, you can pay the bill when it comes, if you don't you just mark "cancel" on it and that's that. Their Web site is: https://www.kable.com/pub/klne/freetrial.asp

I also have the Clean Eating Cook Book which has some good recipes, but I haven't made any of them yet.

Good Luck!!

I ordered the magazine!

I hope I will be able to learn what's good and what's bad and why. Everybody on the forums seem to know what to stay away from. I guess you all started where I am at one point!

If anyone else has any ideas, please let me know.

Oh, and I ate my 2 apples today. YUM! My friends can be dorks!
