My scale - hmmm...I have NO idea what I weigh.

Saturday morning I weighed myself and was 107.8 lbs. My parents just got back from their winter in Florida and my stepmother hadn't seen my daughter since Christmas, so we went out for wings. I ate several wings, some fries and had a few beers. Out of curiousity, I weighed myself yesterday morning. I was 108.3

This morning, for the fun of it, I weighed myself again. 109! I took the dogs for a walk, weighed myself...108. Then I put my 10 lb. dumbbell on it, 10.2 lbs. I got back on myself...108. Put the weight on...10.2. So, should I use 108 as the number since it was the only one that came up twice?

ORRRRR....should I paint the scale multiple colors and use it as a wall hanging?

Stupid things...scales.

You weight can fluctuate by as much as 5 lbs, mostly water weight. For example if I eat Chinese food the day/night before, my scale shows 2 or 3 lbs more, there is no way I could gain 3 lbs of fat in one day.
When I do cardio (and I tried this, went on the scale before my workout and right after) the weight fluctuates up to 2 lbs.

When I am getting close to those days of the month, I start gaining weight, usually 4 to 5 lbs without changing my diet or exercise. Afterwards it comes off and I usually lost another 1 or 2 lbs.

Don't get stressed over a few oz. I just take the scale as a general guideline. But used to freak out over every oz I gained, mind you I have to lose weight, a lot of it :)

Take care,

Carola

Don't sweat it over a pound. Considering what I'm about to say next, I guess there's a pun in that statement...

Do you realize 16oz of water weighs over a pound? So if you haven't pee'd or sweated it out, it will show up as weight gain on the scale. I also have the problem of having my scale on a slightly uneven tile surface. I can scoot the scale over an inch or two and it will show a different weight.

They're not to be trusted.

I noticed that I'm 3 lbs. lighter if I put it on the carpet. I think that's where I'll weigh myself from now on.

Funny things, scales...

Like someone else said, if I move my scale a bit, I can instantly weigh more or less depending upon where I move it. Also, I can stand on it, immediately step back on, and sometimes it will register differently. I really wish I could just get rid of it altogether, but I just can't make that final step. I have gotten out of the habit of weighing myself very often (maybe once every two weeks or so) and go with how my clothes fit and how I feel. I used to find that I would be having a "skinny day" until I got on the scale then I would get upset. Makes no sense...

Also, it depends upon what you ate the night before, salt intake, water retention...too many variables.

Scales are nasty little buggers!!!

I understand. I can swing 5 lbs in a day. I normally weigh myself 1x a day, and count my Tuesday morning weight as my "official" weight for the week. Why Tuesday? I don't know. It seems to help me from loosing my mind to record 1 weight a week. And I do it in the morning, after using the bathroom and before breakfast. I figure it'll be the most accurate that way. No food, no water weight, just me!

Tell me about it! I won't be below a certain # for days and then all of the sudden *BANG* I'm 3 pounds UNDER that # over the course of ONE day and could very well be OVER it the next! It's crazy! I've learned to take it with a grain of salt....:)

I don't trust the bathroom scale. I stick to the doctor's scale at the gym which is much more consistent. Still, your scale doesn't sound so bad. The differences you're seeing are pretty minor, and eating salty foods can easily add a pound or two.

I like the doc's scale at the gym as well but don't use it often as I hate to weigh myself any time but first thing in the morning when I haven't had anything to drink yet,am stark naked and have peed!}( ;) :7
