My motivation is shot!!!

Wow, my motivation has gone out the window. I haven't worked out in about 3 weeks now and the bad thing is I don't seem to be missing it. The first week I missed (I usually go to the gym) I went Monday and Tuesday and then got a sinus cold - didn't go the rest of the week. Then the next week I went on Monday and then it was TOM and didn't go the rest of the week. Last week (not really sure what my problem was) didn't go at all and just wanted to come home and plop down on the couch with my book. This week I actually already planned to not go. What is wrong with me. I know how good I feel when I workout so why can't I get myself back into the swing of things? I know part of my problem is that it gets dark earlier and with the cooler temps I just want to put on my warm pj's and curl up on the couch instead of going to the club. I've thought about getting my Cathe stuff out but if I'm not motivated to workout in an aerobics class where I'm less likly to quit in the middle then I sure won't stick it out thru a Cathe workout. Anyway, is there anyone else struggling right now with motivation?
Thanks, Kimbra

Kimbra,

What about taking small steps to help you get motivated again? For example, tell yourself that you only need to do Step Blast warm up, combo one, and cool down. That's a short workout; shouldn't take more than 20 minutes. If the workout is feeling really good to you, you might surprise yourself and do the second combo as well. However, combo one might be just enough, and you can call it a day if you want. I always tell myself that I never *have* to finish a workout; I just have to start it. Giving myself permission to modify or stop at any point in a workout takes the dread factor out of doing the workout if I'm not feeling motivated. And pick your favourite workout, the one with the highest fun factor for you.

Good luck!
Sandra

Sandra good counsel.I do not have problems of motivation with cathe.I have problems of overtraining and extramotivation. With other instructors I had them but I knew that If I could stay the first 10 minutes working out I would finish the workout.

Everyone has great advice and suggestions on this forum. I dont think anyone would ever be alone or feel alone with a problem or a situation. Motivations hard at the best of times whether it be exercise or going to work etc.
Perhaps your not 100% better yet so your body is telling you to take it easy but your mind is playing a guilt trip on you because you havent exercised. I think go slow is the key here and take one day at a time in how your feeling. Just a thought, but instead of trying to gear up for Cathe, perhaps you need yoga, pilates, stretch tapes - just a suggestion. That way at least, your not going to feel any more annoyed with yourself and it would be a great start in moving your body again.

:)

I think it's winter-itis. When we're getting used to the shorter days, motivation can get low. There's nothing wrong with having some time off. Make a plan to get started again, scheduling in some easy, fun workouts for the first week.

Hi Kim,
I think everyone thinks along the same lines here.I have lost my motivation from time to time but not for that long;-) I can take up to 3 days off and then I just feel to bad so I have to workout.Normally I am a person with a fair amount of energy so whats the point in just sitting on the couch.I HAVE to move. And if I don't do something,I will just make trips to the fridge stuffing my face.
If I were tired though, that would be different. If you are feeling wipped out then maybe you should see your DR.I just made a trip to mine b/c I was feeling tired and sleepy.By the time I got the results make from my blood work I was feeling alot better.I had been working alot all summer and it just caught up to me.
Anyway,if you want to join us on the 3 Month Challenge Check-in feel free.Maybe you need something to get you started again.Write up a rotation that gets you excited and include workouts in there that you love to do.You could also try working out early in the morning, that way you have it done and out of your way.
Good luck!

Well don't know if this helps you, but my motivation is how my pants fit and how my abs look when I don't exercise. I have worked hard to get them to this point, and when I don't exercise my body shows it, and I don't like that lol............... Rhonda

Try putting a picture of Cathe on your fridge or by your TV remote control. Or both. Her pic always motivates me...........:)

Thanks for all the great advice. I think that I exercise faithfully (5-6 days a week at least an hour) for so long that I get burned out and then once I don't go a few times in a row I get used to that. Always before if I was in a slump I'd say that I needed to start exercising at least 5 days a week again and when I didn't do that I would feel bad or like I'd failed. So I think I'm going to start with just going Saturday to the morning class and then next week only allow myself to go to the club 3 days a week then maybe I'll start missing it again. I might try the 3 month challenge posting to see how I do. Thanks guys I know I can always count on you for support and the kick in the a## that I need.

I'm not a md so don't take this too serious...

Seasonal Afflicted Disorder. The shortened days, the cooler weather your body wants to hibernate.

Try raising the wattage of light bulbs a notch, 40s to 60s, 60s to 70s for example. So that when your inside the house feels brighter.
Playing with the thermostat or your clothing could make you feel warmer. Enjoy the sunlight when you can.

Think of sports that you can only do now and enjoy them, think of things you can only do when it's colder and have something to look forward to.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm having the same problem. I missed a few workouts two weeks ago, but still got in four days. Went out Friday night, came home and felt awful and woke up Sunday with a sinus cold, too. I spent Sunday at a seminar for work and came home totally wiped out. Then on top of that my monthly "friend" decided to visit Monday morning and that did me in! I have not done anything this entire week. Today (Saturday) I'm hoping to get in a full body (PH or ME) so at least I feel that everything got worked!

I think, too, sometimes you have to give yourself that rest time (okay, maybe not as long as 10 days or three weeks :D) but I'm ready to get back in gear!

P.S. Just realized I woke up Saturday with the cold, not Sunday. Don't want anyone to think I was hung over and slept for two days!
