my garmin 405

Okay, thought I'd reveiw this for everyone. I've had it for 2 weeks now and I would have to give it a big old thumbs down. I just put it right back in the box and sent it back. I was disappointed I really wanted to love this watch. It is after all easier on the eyes than my 305 but for $400.00 this watch should wash clothes and do the dishes too. I didn't like the bezel ring. I just prefer buttons and during every single run that I went on and I went on 6 during the past 2 weeks the watch managed to stop in the middle of my run, by the time I noticed I couldn't even say how much time passed by. Yes, I checked my settings, it seemed to only happen during heavily wooded areas. Which heck if I can't get it to read during my usual runs, . . .well, as I said it went back. So, I guess I'll go back to my old reliable 305, which has never given me any trouble.

Awww...that's a shame, Janie, but from all the research I've done recently comparing the 305 vs. 405, I'm not entirely surprised. It seems like Garmin rushed that model out to meet expectations, and most have been sorely disappointed.

I bought the 305 recently from Amazon for $149, and so far it is working very well despite it's gaudiness;)

You can return it, right?

Thanks for the review - makes me feel better about my recent purchase!!

Hi Hedi. Yes, the 305 is awesome despite its brick like appearance. I hope you'll like it too. Yes, it is returnable, . . gotta love Amazon but I totally agree with you. I think that they jumped the gun on this one. By the way, . .what a great price $149 well worth your money! :)

I have a 405 and a 305. I haven't had mine lock up like you have. I know you sent yours back, but for others that might have one...There are sometimes software updates even if you just bought it recently. The unit should always run the latest firmware.

Now the bezel thing is definitely a personal preference thing. I've rather gotten used to it, but I completely concur that buttons are so much better.

Also, the price points are so different ($150 vs $400), it makes it a very easy choice to go with the 305 as the functionality, when the rubber meets the road, is not that much different.

I have the 305 and my sister just got the 405 (boy was I envious).
She hated it and brought it back for the 305.
The buttons are much eaiser to use IMHO but the 405 was much sleeker.
Do I predict at 505? Lol

Good to know. I have a 205 and Ive used it almost every day for the last 2 years and never had a single issue with it. I haven't seen the 405, but was thinking of getting a new one this summer so I'll keep that in mind about the 405.
