OK so I go to start my car this moring and it won't start. It is a 2005 Nissan Altima just bought in Sept 04. has just a little over 7000 miles. Never had problems. So I finally get it started and get it to the dealer. The fuel pump went out. Isn't that a major part to be replaced? The car's still practically new. I am really concerned that now all kinds of crap is going to start breaking down.

Wow, yes, a fuel pump is a huge part! It cost me over $900 to replace on my 5-year old conversion van last year. It was part of a downward spiral that prompted me to finally trade it in. It should DEFINITELY not go out on a car that's still new. I can see how you would be concerned about other things going wrong. Your warranty should certainly cover this, won't it?

that is so weird cuz my bf's sister has been having probs with her altima from the day she got it. Im not sur eif it was the fuel pump but it had probs starting also. i told her to take it back - a new car should not do those things. Maybe someday she'll listen to me:+

Luckily the warranty did cover it. When I asked the guy if he didn't think it strange that a fuel pump went out on a practically new car he said. "Well we've seen a few here and there and you never know with new cars." If that didn't make me feel good about the purchase.

I had a 2000 Mazda 626 and last summer on vacation the air conditioner stopped working. Took it in and the whole compressor basically blew up. This car was only 4 years old with 32,000 miles on it. Of course no warrenty covered this. Was going to cost $1100 to fix. Plus the back suspension was really loose and needed repaired. Was going to need all new tires that winter. So we decided to trade it in before it got to where it would be worth nothing. It just killed me because the Mazda would've been paid off this July. But now another 5 years for payments.
