Hello All,
I got some sad news this morning.
My friend is dying. Her name is Baby and she showed up at my house in 2002. She had a litter of kittens because her mammary glands were all swollen, but I followed her to some run down abandoned house and there was no sign of kittens anywhere so I guess they didn't make it. I named her Baby and she became part of our family. She's a little tuxedo kitty - with a bit of a milk mustache. She's a super cuddly girl.
About a month ago she got a knot on her neck that ended up being cancer. We went ahead with surgery and she seemed to be recovering nicely. Then last night, out of the blue her neck swelled up again on the side and underneath her chin. We took her in this morning and the vet took a sample from the one on the side of her neck and it ended up having cancerous cells in it again. I swear it's not been more than a month since the surgery. They gave her a cortisone shot to reduce the swelling, but the vet said it only buys you a short amount of time. She also said that eventually the condition would restrict her ability to breathe and swallow (which freaks me out).
So, in about 2-3 weeks we're going to have to make "that trip to the vet" that every pet owner dreads. Until then, I'm trying to make her as comfy as possible. I've bought a harness for her and a lead and I'm going to let her outside as much as she wants. I'm going to feed her tuna every night and make sure no one else picks on her.
Still, my heart is heavy....
