My Baby

Hello All,

I got some sad news this morning. :(

My friend is dying. Her name is Baby and she showed up at my house in 2002. She had a litter of kittens because her mammary glands were all swollen, but I followed her to some run down abandoned house and there was no sign of kittens anywhere so I guess they didn't make it. I named her Baby and she became part of our family. She's a little tuxedo kitty - with a bit of a milk mustache. She's a super cuddly girl.

About a month ago she got a knot on her neck that ended up being cancer. We went ahead with surgery and she seemed to be recovering nicely. Then last night, out of the blue her neck swelled up again on the side and underneath her chin. We took her in this morning and the vet took a sample from the one on the side of her neck and it ended up having cancerous cells in it again. I swear it's not been more than a month since the surgery. They gave her a cortisone shot to reduce the swelling, but the vet said it only buys you a short amount of time. She also said that eventually the condition would restrict her ability to breathe and swallow (which freaks me out).

So, in about 2-3 weeks we're going to have to make "that trip to the vet" that every pet owner dreads. Until then, I'm trying to make her as comfy as possible. I've bought a harness for her and a lead and I'm going to let her outside as much as she wants. I'm going to feed her tuna every night and make sure no one else picks on her.

Still, my heart is heavy....:(

Reese,

So sorry to hear of you situation. No words came help the situation, but know that you gave her a good loving home.

Jean

I'm so sorry to hear it, Reese. The most important thing is to know that she will be out of pain, and not suffering. It is a loving, selfless thing you will be doing. And remember that she had a wonderful life because of you.

I'm so sorry! Please hang in there, it's so sad. Giving you lots of comfort vibes.

Janie

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

Reese -

As I'm reading your story about your "baby" one of my "babies" is curled up on my lap and purring. Makes me want to cry to hear such a sad story but it also makes me happy to know there are people like you out there who will reach out and help an animal in need. Your baby was lucky to have found you.

Take care,
Sue

I am so sorry about Baby. It was wonderful that you have given her a wonderful life for those years. If you could only try to relax and enjoy the time you have left with her. Makes me teary. Hugs for you and Baby. It is never easy to let go of those we love.

Oh, how very sad Reese! I know your feelings. We just put our 20 year old kitty to sleep last year! It's hard but we know it is best for them. Baby was so very fortunate that you found her. Give her a hug & an ear-scratched from me!

I'm so sorry to hear about Baby.

At least you have some time to spend together, and it sounds like you're going to make her last few weeks just wonderful. Make some good memories to help you through later.

I'm sure she's had a wonderful, love-filled life with you.
