muscle mass and definition

Has anyone else found it more difficult to build (even slightly) or maintain muscle mass and definition during pregnancy? I'm still lifting the same amount of weights, but it feels like my arms are back to long and skrawny! x( Is it possible that I'm having a more difficult time due to the baby needing more of my carbs/protein, leaving less for my muscles? If that's not the case, maybe I'm just having a difficult time coming back from my few weeks of light weight lifting back in February? Or...maybe I'm just not working as hard as I thought! :p

I had been doing PUB 1x/week and usually GS for arms 1x/week (so arms 2x/week and chest/back 1x/week). Maybe it's time for me to go back to the P90x lifting routines?

I have no problem keeping my mass, however my definition disappears because I get so dang fat whilst pregnant. At least the muscle will be there when I'm finished and can burn off the extra fat post partum.

Everyone is different, though, so I can't say in your case. Just keep lifting to stay in the habit if nothing else.

Maggie:)

Lisa, I agree with Maggie - keep lifting to stay in the habit. I feel like my muscles don't look like what they did pre-preg (I'm 12 weeks) but I want to keep lifting so I can at least maintain some and make it easier to get back to heavy weights post-baby.

How far along are you now? I think you were a little ahead of me...

Thanks for the replies. Yesterday I started P90x lifting again. Of course I'm not using the program by any means...just using the lifting DVDs. I'll see what that does. Kate, I'm a little over 15 weeks...it feels SO good to be out of that crappy first trimester! It's great eating REAL food again (and getting my weight to finally plateau)! :)

Lisa, Glad to hear your feeling better. I'm coming out of it too. Back to eating and ENJOYING my salads and produce (most of the time!). I've actually LOST 2 pounds! I know its because I'm not carb-loading anymore - thank goodness! And getting to workout again is PRICELESS!! Good luck w/ P90X
