Muscle & Fitness Hers April 2003

Hi,
If anyone has seen the April issue of Muscle & Fitness Hers, I'd like to know what your thoughts are on the Lose 10 lbs. by May 1. I would like to know where Flax seed or Almonds fit in. Would it be considered a grain or an extra (as in fat)? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Beth

Hi Beth!

I don't have the April issue yet....but I do take 2 T of ground flaxseeds every day. Most people may not agree with me but I just add it to my diet - I don't count it as anything. I pretend that it doesn't have any calories at all! LOL! Taking this amount has not slowed down my weightloss and has really improved my digestion and skin! You couldn't pay me to give flaxseeds up (even though I was hesitant at the beginning because I thought that they were too high cal!)

I think that most diets consider flaxseeds as more of a fat. But don't let that stop you from taking it!

RE: Muscle & Fitness Hers April 2003

I got the issue last week. I think they are considered extra, at least the almonds would be. Not sure about the flax seed.

I've actually thought about doing the eating and exercise plan, but decided against it. With a 9 month old who still gets up 2-3 times in the middle of the night I already don't get enough sleep. In order for me to get in all of the cardio I would need to get up an hour early in the morning to get in an hour long cardio session and then after work do another hour of cardio and at least 1/2 hour of weights. It would be too taxing on my body especially since I am so sleep deprived. Besides when would I get to see my son. However, the food plan looks really good and I think I might do it, but I just can't wing all that exercise. I try to do an hour at least 5-6 times a week.

Flax seeds & almonds contain healthy fat & some protein. The almonds are also a good source of vitamin E.

I have that zine, the one with the black cover right?

I need to check that routine out tonight. It's 2 hours of cardio a day??????? Or have I misunderstood something? Sheeks I generally do an hour five days a week. 2 hours a day even 5 days a week sounds well }( }( grueling to me.

I eat flaxseed meal in my muffins daily or in my oatmeal.

I checked and that's the March issue I have with the black cover, soooo I guess I gotta pick up the April one to see this.

Is it two hours a day of cardio really? LOL, if so guess I'd have to get up an hour early too since I do the one hour of the evening now.

Edith,
I read the article early last week so someone may need to correct me, but the article says you need to do 2 45-60 minute sessions a day and a weight training session every other day (3 days a week). On the in-between days it says to do 1 regular 45-60 minute cardio session and 1 interval cardio session (theirs is about 45 minutes). They want you to space the 2 cardio workouts out with about 6 hours between them. Basically you are putting in at least 2-3 hours of exercise one day and about 2 hours the next. I bet it would work off the fat, but I would be worried about overtraining. I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

Also with the eating plan they provide it says that you should be consuming about 1600 calories a day on this plan. I would probably use that up in the first cardio session. Just kidding!!

I admire anyone who has the stamina to stick with this for 4 weeks. I think my body would rebel after the first couple of days.

zoinks!!!!!! I don't think I could do all that. I gotta get the new issue and read this, goodness that's a rough schedule }( }( }(

I think the only way I could do that much cardio would be for one session a day to be like a Leslie Sansone Walking video and the other a Cathe.

The other problem I see is that once you stop doing that much exercise, you'd gain some weight, so unless you have the time to continue training that much, it doesn't look too realistic to me.

However, it does look like a good plan if you want to get in shape for a special event.
