MP3 player...Help!

I just got an MP3 player with 4 hours of playtime. I have no idea how to get music onto the thing. Anyone already have experience with this?

Emily(materialsgirl) would be a good person to ask! I imagine she will answer as soon as she sees this thread. :)

Gee, apparently I have a reputation around here or something!!! ;)

Alright, you will need to use your computer to get music onto it. Let me ask you this - did your MP3 player come with instructions? You should read them! All MP3 players are a little different in the steps you need to take to upload music, so read the directions because I can only give you general guidelines. Since your MP3 player has a small memory capacity, I'm guessing it is of the flash memory variety. You can probably plug it directly into a USB port on your computer, and your computer should recognize it as new hardware. Getting songs onto it may be as simple as dragging and dropping MP3 files from your computer onto the MP3 player using Windows Explorer(the MP3 player would be shown as a new "hard drive" in your Windows Explorer). Or there may be some software you need to install on your computer that allows you to transfer music files. Like I said, you will need to read the instructions!

If you are wanting to get music off of existing CDs, you will need to download that music from your CDs to your computer and make sure they are saved to your hard drive in MP3 format (or other format recognizable by your MP3 player). There are a lot of free programs available to help you do this (iTunes comes to mind).

This is just a very general overview of the process - my best advice, again, is read the instructions that came with your MP3 player. If you have any other questions, PM me. I'll do my best to help! :)

Also you may want to use RealOne player to transfer your CDs to MP3 format, when it changes things to MP3 it will save to a smaller file then most for expamle Itunes will save a 30 minutes in 40 mb, while RealOne will save it in 20 mb same both the same song and in same MP3 format. What this means, is if you use RealOne, you can put more music on your MP3 player then you can with Itunes.

i got a little chuckle out of your post, as i just got a DELL jukebox a few months back..and was in your shoes.......i paid a 20 yr old from work' 25 bucks to come over and show me how to download from music services and transfer from CD's etc......i could have muddled through the instructions, but this was great......i am a junkie now downloading music!!!!!!!}(

joanna,

That's actually one of the best ways to learn something new, if your not good with eletronics. I've found that it is so much easier for most who get confused by the directions or don't have that much computer knowledge to really understand what an USB port is, and how to find the MP3 player now that its connected to the computer, and put the music on it.
