MOTIVATION CRAMP!

Good morning, all! I've only ever scanned the workout check-ins that occur here on a weekly basis - would it be okay if I started to participate?

I must say, my consistency has suffered over this past summer - have developed a Monday or Thursday Blow-Off Syndrome. My normal (i.e. planned) workout schedule is: Sunday home workout with personal step aerobics and extended total-body strength session; Monday home workout with I-Max and about an hour of total body strengthening; Wed. teach my aqua class (80 minute cardio and muscle-conditioning class); Thursday I-Max and an hour of strengthening; and Saturday teach my aqua class (same as Wed.) and then about another 90 minutes of personal time in the pool with flutter kick drills and trunk and upper body stuff.

Weekends and Wednesdays are no problem for me, but for some reason I've started to fluff the Monday - Thursday night stuff. I may start going to one of the other facilities of the club chain that employs me on Thursday nights after work, start track running and then work out with a trainer - who may have to double as a drill sergeant!

Hey Aquajock-

Don't be down on yourself. It sounds like maybe you need to inject a little more 'fun time' into your workouts. I know that when I start sliding in enthusiasm, it's because I'm 1) being too rigid and 2) not recognizing my exercise program as something I truly do out of enjoyment and something that should be fun and make me feel good. And I know I may not always feel like doing it, but I ALWAYS feel so much better afterwards, no matter WHAT kind of mood I am in to begin with. So when my enthusiasm is waning, I'll just do a fun workout. I'll keep the heart rate monitor off and I'll do a fun couple of tapes-maybe stuff I have that is not in normal rotation because it's too 'easy'. that helps me quite a bit.
One other thing. Maybe you need to plan one more off day into your week. I also look at overtraining when I'm starting to dread a workout or if I feel like blowing it off. Maybe your body is telling you it needs more rest? Also, how's the weather where you are? Is the weather in your neck of the woods really hot?

I hope things improve for you soon!

YES!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-10-01 AT 10:50AM (Est)[p]Annette~We'd love to have you join us on Check-ins! I agree with Kathy~maybe your body is telling you that you need another day off. Your routine sounds pretty intense. It could also be just boredom of doing the Same-Ole-Thing! I just added running into my rotation about 6-8 weeks ago and have grown to love it. I guess you would actually call it moderate jogging but I can go forever at the moderate pace. Keep in touch with us and we'll be looking forward to "seeing" you at Check-ins next week!

Sit It Out Or Dance...I Hope You DANCE!!!

Yikes, what happened to my signature??? DebbieH :-wow

RE: YES!

Yup, I agree...overtraining, boredom, or heat. Pick one or three!
Seriously, the heat is affecting me big-time here in Balto. Cooler tonight! (Please!!)
Hey, Deb, I hardly recognized you without your full signature!
