more spilling of the beans

Ok, my turn..... some prizes were given out and one of them was for the person who had travelled the farthest to get there. After that prize was given to Tigger, I joked that I wanted a mileage recount. Well, sure enough, according to google maps, Tigger is roughly 2884 miles away, whereas I am 2937. Honestly, I would have thought the San Diego people were even farther, but their mileage came in at 2760. Of course, I was plugging in cities and not addresses, so for all I know, Tigger it outside of town and her mileage is longer than 2937. But remind me again, Tigger, what I might have won..... :)

Beth, you might have won a pair of Cathe weight lifting gloves! I don't know how the mileage was calculated on how far everyone traveled and I'm sorry you didn't win! :(

I did request a recount as I'm 2913 miles away! :) I think she knew I wasn't kidding... They said they used Mapquest but I didn't specifically ask if they used street addresses or just cities.

Setting the Record Straight Re: Friday Night Prizes

Hi folks,

I must admit that I'm a little taken aback by this thread. :( I hope there's a lot more intended humor in it than I'm reading (this is quite possible, because I'm still pooped from my wonderful weekend and my not-so-wonderful 11-hour airport & flight marathon) and that none of you are sitting out there feeling angry or resentful about the prizes that were awarded on the Friday nights of our Road Trips.

Just to be cautious and sure, and to set the record straight, I do want to say a few words about those prizes, on behalf of the Coordinators and Cathe and staff.

The Friday night "Road Tripper Special Recognition" prizes are intended to be a simple, smile-inducing icebreaker to help Road Trippers get to know a bit about each other. What we give away varies every year, depending on many factors including balancing other things in our overall Road Trip budget. And there also is no "set" number of categories or winners -- this varies each year, too, depending on how much prize "stuff" we can accumulate and on what interesting "winning categories" we can dream up when we review your biographical information. We try to creatively maximize the number of winners. So, for example, we don't do any "repeats" -- August's "youngest" Road Tripper AND the next-to-youngest August Road Tripper both also happened to be part of our three prize-winning "Mother and Daughter" pairs, so we "disqualified" them both and we gave the "Youngest Road Tripper" prize to the actual "third-youngest" August Road Tripper. This seemed the fairest thing to do, and we strive to be fair.

We also try to be as accurate as we can be in choosing "winners", but please understand that we are limited by the information that we have about you -- and ALL we Coordinators know about you is what you tell us on your Who's Who book submissions.

For the August Road Trip, a lot of you chose not to participate in the Who's Who book. Some of you who did participate in the Who's Who book didn't choose to disclose your age. Some of you didn't choose to disclose the city you live in. We did not have access to street addresses for ANY of you. You can see that, for this Road Trip particularly, our "database" was imperfect.

Given the fact that our database about you is limited, some mistakes are inevitably going to happen despite our best efforts. Several of you approached Debbie, Lorrayne and me after the "awards ceremony" on Friday night to tell us that you were upset because we'd left you out of a category, or that we'd made a mistake and you should have won a category. (And yes, Ame, we knew you weren't kidding. ;)) Cathe and Chris immediately gave us a few extra items so that we could give prizes to every one of you. As far as I know, everyone who came to speak to us with a complaint was given a prize without further ado or investigation. We were glad to do that, because our objective was for every Road Tripper to feel happy and satisfied.

My point is simply that we all -- we three Coordinators, Cathe, Nancy, Chris, the Four Seasons staff -- tried our best, folks, as we honest to goodness always do. We're sorry if we left any of you feeling that we overlooked you unfairly. We really intended for the Friday night "awards" -- and all of the many Road Trip giveaways -- to have the exact opposite effect on you: We wanted them to feel welcoming, pampering, fun and inclusive.

If you have suggestions for how we might improve the Friday night "Road Tripper Special Recognition" prize selection process, please be sure to include your ideas on your Road Trip Survey, or e-mail them to one of the Coordinators. Thanks!

Oh Kathy -- yes, yes, yes, it was meant to be humorous! I'm so so sorry if it was taken any other way.
I should not have started this. It's just that so many people said to me "shouldn't you have won that travelled farthest prize?" when they heard where I was from. So, I did joke about it, and was curious, but honestly, I did think that San Diego *must* have been the farthest. But really, you guys did such a fantastic job, and I had a terrific, wonderful time, and I'm so sorry if I have taken away from that. I just wanted to rib Tigger a little. So sorry!!

-Beth

Beth, NO WORRIES!!!! As I said, I wrote my "for the record" because I couldn't tell whether you (or anyone else) was truly upset or just kidding around, and we can't have our little ducklings upset. ;) We don't take any of this kind of stuff personally, but we do try to take any complaint seriously and I just wanted to make sure we'd addressed even a POTENTIAL complaint about these prizes.

I hope we'll see you next year at RT 2009 -- onlly 11.5 (or so) months away, right?? :D

See you online between now and then!

Hugs!!!!!

Kathy

OMG Kathy I was simply curious, I swear!! I had been talking to DH on the plane and we wondered how far away we really were but never did the mileage. Then Christine wanted to know how far apart we really were so I looked it up when we got home! The long plane rides were the devil, though, so I can see how we each thought we had traveled the furthest.

And the fact Christine won did make me go up to her and introduce myself since we're so close. So at the very least you met your goal to break the ice!! :D

Seriously, Kathy, I was kidding on Friday. Love the fact you jumped though!:p I wonder if we called them Road Tripper Trivia or something might make everyone realize the winners are not more or less special than anyone else? :p:eek: (Haven't turned in my feedback yet...shame on me!)

I wonder if the people who didn't turn in who's who forms might have been more likely to do so if they realized that they might be more likely to win a prize if they had done so. Just a thought.

Ame!

Hi Ame! GF, put this one to rest, okay? I was kidding when I said we knew you were serious on Friday, but as always something gets lost in the "paper" translation even with winking smilies attached! The ONLY thing that mattered to us was making sure you were a happy camper, sweetie. It was our pleasure to JUMP, as you say ;), and do what we could to ensure we'd taken extra special care of each one of our little RT ducklings!! :D

The fact that we singled out some "categories" for prizes doesn't mean at ALL that any of you were more special than any others -- I hope you all knew that. As I said, it's just an ice-breaking thing and a great excuse for us to give away some prizes. And we are ALWAYS looking for new and creative ways to give out more loot!!!! ;)

That being said, I like your name "Road Trippers Trivia"! That's definitely going into the Think Tank for next year!!!

Jodi!

Jodi, you think just like we do. ;) We have already put this item onto the Next Year List: "Tell Trippers ahead of time that Who's Who book participation will 'qualify' them for exciting and 'good' prizes."

Keep those ideas coming, kids. We love 'em!!!
