More Slim & Lean commentary

I'm really enjoying Slim & Lean. Thank you again AmyG and Wendy for bringing it to my attention.

I think the only thing I would change about it would be the tricep segment. For me, those overhead tricep extensions are one of those "muddy" exercises where you don't ever really know for sure that you're targeting the muscle spot on, if you know what I mean. I find that kickbacks, especially cross-body kickbacks, are such a "clean" exercise for triceps. They hit the muscle spot on and don't engage any other muscle. I love exercises like that, because you know you're getting the job done and not wasting your time or using bad form. Those overhead extensions are muddy to me because I don't feel the burn directly in my triceps, and there is some other muscle group, maybe shoulders?, that fatigues too quickly.

Also, is it me or does anyone else find sitting on the step very uncomfortable, even painful in the buttocks?

But overall, I love the workout. I love how it gets the job done in so little time, and is easy to break up into smaller segments. I also love the order of the exercises: some leg work at the beginning, then more later on. When my legs have time to rest, I can do it all and I feel good about myself instead of discouraged as I do when all the leg work is bunched together.

Absolutely the best $8.00 I've ever spent. I would gladly have spent three times that.

LOL on the $8! And I agree with you on the triceps exercises. Can you do the kickbacks instead? I can't recall.

If you put a towel down on the step does that help your butt pain? ;)

Nancy,
buy a cheap yoga matt and cut it to size for on top the step. It saves the back and hands. I use a smaller piece across my tall step(push ups and dips, 1 legged squats) and the rest for push ups. Traction and comfort. They are cheap and easy to store...Amazing difference..Even tricep dips have less hand pain and more traction.

I did all of the upper body work from Slim & Lean this morning and am feeling it nicely in my arms this evening. I was skeptical about Jari Love and the workout at first as I haven't had much luck with workout DVDs purchased at retail stores but this one's a keeper. The ab work is a bit short but I could always do it twice I suppose}( :) Another great thing about Jari.....she's Canadian...like ME!:7

Take Care

Thanks Anne, but, ahem, that's not my daughter. LOL! That's me and my DH with my stepson and his bride. It's funny though, because we have the exact same coloring and body type, and are exactly the same height and shoe size, so I have someone to give my clothes to when I need to make room in my closet. :D

Yes, Amy, I think they even show standing kickbacks as an alternative. I'm really weird about modifying, though. I don't like to do it, but I think in this case I'll give myself permission.

Yup, I can cushion my butt. I was just wondering if anyone else has the pain, or if it means I have a boney butt. :p :+
Nancy

Yup, Laurie, the ab work is short, just like all the other segments! :D That's my favorite thing about the workout. It is short and quick! So when I get home from work late and I'm tired and hungry, I only have to talk myself into doing 10 or 15 mins. of strength training. It may not be for everyone, but it was exactly what I needed. :7 :7 :7

So far, I've liked every Canadian I've "met". ;) :D

Elainee, can you believe that price???? AmyG sent me the Deepdiscount link and I could hardly believe it. Now that I've tried the workout, I think the price is insane.

I found Slim and Lean at Ross Dress for less for $5.99! They also had Ripped to the Core and Ripped 1000 for the same price. I did the workout on Saturday and man am I feeling it. My whole body is sore. Interestingly enough I found the tricep section a killer. I was using only 5 pounds on the extentions and almost could not finish. I am by no means a beginner and found I was very challenged. The ab work is lacking but I am just goint to supplement it with Cathe's bonus ab on Butts and Gutts. Jari comes for the same city I grew up in, Calgary Alberta. I may even check out her two workout facilities the next time I visit family. Check out her website, jarilove.com. It has a lot of scientific information regarding her workout, recipes and what not.

I also found it at Ross for lot less price, but I think that mine was $4.99. I haven't tried S&L yet, but I used RTTC twice this weekend. I love the compound exercises! I guess that I will have to finish previewing S&L!

I recently got this DVD and Ripped to the Core from DeepDiscount DVD -- per Wendy's recommendations and I'm really liking Slim and Lean. (I haven't done RTC) yet.

Nancy- I have a weight bench and use that instead of a step for sitting. The yoga mat is a good suggestion.

Great idea! I've been using a full yoga matt atop the step- I didn't even think to cut it!
