More about flaxseed...

Hi everyone!

I just found this great website with information about flaxseed and ways to incorporate them into meals. They also have subsitution options that you can use - (subsitute flaxseed & water for eggs? interesting!). It also discusses the different types and ways to store flaxseed. One suggestion I like is to get a mill and keep whole flaxseed in it, and grind when you use it! Best way to keep it fresh, preserve all it's nutrients, and it's easy!

Noting all the past posts and the interest in flaxseed I thought some of you may be interested..

Thank Ruppie. I just re-started using my flax seed after taking a break for about a half year. Not sure why, but I got away from it. I'll take a peek at the site. THANX!

Flaxseeds seem to keep the gray hairs away. It appears that I turn into a redhead instead. If you use the oil underneath your eyes it will get rid of your little wrinkles. I would use the flax oil as a whole body oil if it didn't a) have a pretty strong nutty smell and b) my dogs wouldn't want to lick me all the time.

It also lowers the cholesterol, keeps you regular and has cancer fighting agents.

I used to be a flaxseed fan. I'm on hold for awhile. They are doing a study on the correlation between flaxseed and breast cancer (how flaxseed affects hormones, etc). At the present time, a brochure I had from American Cancer Society states 1 to 2 tablespoons daily appears to be safe. The study is still under progress. Being a survivor and considered high risk, I'm staying away from it until the study is completed. Gee, soy, salmon, now flaxseed, what next?x(

Blessings,
Denise

Sometimes I think that all those studies just mask the fact that all the chemicals in our environment/foods are the real reason for increased cancer occurances.

Think about what we put nowadays on our skin, toxins in lotions, perfume etc. and they really just blame the sun for skin cancer? I have one rule in my house. If I eat a product and would get really sick or even die from it I do not put it on my skin since the skin is the biggest organ of the body.

I'm unclear why you mention salmon and soy- were studies done that I'm unaware of that say they are bad for you?

I'm so sick of these studies.one says for ex: "eat more salmon...it fights this , this and this" then one says "salmon is bad . it does this" or you can use any food here. I think the real bottom line is this:

the egg board, is gonna say eat more eggs they do so many great things for you and have so many vitamins
the cheese and dairy association is going to say "drink your milk and don't forget the cheese....we need our calcium for strong bones"
then you get some scientists saying ...well eggs have cholestorol- they are bad and don't eat cheese there is too much fat...blah , blah , blah
so everyone is working against each other for money- that's what it all comes down too. I think when your time is up your gonna go weather it's food that caused cancer related or you get hit by a car. there is way too much focus on what to eat- I saw a study the other day that listed the 10 most dirtiest foods....eggs was one, chicken was another, turkey was another....I mean it's sick!! I might as well go eat a cicada!!! but there are none around here yet. (my luck)
if we all eat in moderation and have a variety I dont see a roblem. A perfect example was when I worked at a movie theatre, this little lady came in- she must have been in her 80's or 90's...she would take the whole container of salt with her intot he movies for her small popcorn- everytime at least once a week and yeah she got extra butter on it too. she was probbaly use to this since she grew up on lard ya know. but see she lived a very long life- she may still be alive...she was thin- looked in good health too. I'm not saying we should all do this everytime. but look at the facts....she only had a small but had it her way. just something to think about so we all don't drive ourselves crazy.
this is just my opinion- with all the stress in our lives already do we need more of worrying about every little thing we pop in our mouths?
