this was a good week, but my real goals is for 5 workouts a week

note: argh on saturday I had my first bought with naseau, oh and gas too, help it's not starting already? I thought I was in the clear for at least another week :p

Wendy what kind of lbs are you using for lower body work?

>Wendy what kind of lbs are you using for lower body work?

Hey Julie-

I'm keeping my weights very light...the heaviest I have gone is 16# (2-8# dumb bells) for squats and I don't even do that all that often...I use the firm sculpting stick at 12# as a very light barbell for certain things and do most everything else with 2 5# dumb bells. Most of the time when I am doing leg press I use no weight and just use my sculpting stick as a dowel to help with my balance since it can be "off" these days. lol

I don't want to push it too hard...I still feel like I'm working though and my thighs are quite firm so I'm pretty happy.:)

I figure I have plenty of time AFTER the baby is born to play SUPER WOMAN! :) :+ :p }(

PS-one of the other gals here had posted a good point...once you get later into the pregnancy and the weight is coming on, that really is extra weight you are lifting that you are not accustomed too during a lower body work out so you don't even need to go real heavy with weights to feel it! That being said, I am squatting an extra 25# right now BEFORE I even add a dumb bell!;)

Have a great work out!

Once your first trimester ends, I'm sure you will notice your energy coming back and you should slowly be able to start more frequent work outs again!

Hi everyone!

I have no workouts to report this week, obviously. I think I'm finally acclimating to being sedentary, unfortunately. My 12th week ended yesterday, which would have made me relax, except I don't think I'll truly relax and be able to enjoy this pregnancy until my next u/s - and the doc tells me that things are looking good.

You all are doing very good with your workouts! Don't beat yourself up over doing fewer workouts every week than you planned; what matters is that you're doing what you are able to, and that's the best you can ask of yourself.

Have a great week!
Sandra

Hi Sandra...glad to hear that you are hanging in there.

Don't worry, your U/S appointment will be here before you know it and then hopefully you'll get clearance to atleast become minimally active again.

I just started my third trimester and I'm starting to slowly roll back down that hill as far as energy goes. I'm starting to wear out easier and earlier...memories of the 1st trimester are coming back to me now...lol. I'm not nearly as dog tired as I was then (atleast not yet!), but I can feel myself slowly losing my energy again...I have started napping again...

Pregnancy is like a rollercoaster ride, ey?

Have a great work out!

Hi Everyone! Well, I went to the dr. last Thursday (reg. check-up). I actually saw a midwife this time. My weight was up due to my swollen leg. She said the swelling was bad, but not as bad as some that she's seen. My blood pressure was normal, so she wasn't concerned about any complications from that. She told me to take Friday off of work and put my leg above my heart so my kidneys could flush out the extra water. So, I did as I was told, and it did the trick. I am very happy to say that the swelling is gone. I have a tiny bit in my ankles, but that is perfectly normal at this stage in my pregnancy. Now, I have a bad cold again (ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhx( ). I can't seem to go a few weeks without picking one up again. It has to be from teaching-those kids sneeze and cough all over the place!

I hope to incorporate some walking and prenatal yoga/stretching back into my routine this week now that I am all better. I can't believe that I am in my 37th week already!!!!

Take care.

Due 3/31 or 4/1

Hi Wendy,

How long do you plan to work until? Will you work right up until the baby is born, or are you planning to stop working a week or two before your due date? The third trimester tiredness can really make a day at the office feel endless.

Cheers,
Sandra

This is something I am going to talk to my doc about on monday at my next appointment. Here in the US it seems to be popular for women to go out on maternity leave one month prior to the due date. This seems rather early to me if there are no problems. I was thinking 2 weeks prior would work. I will adjust according to my doc's recommendations, ofcourse. I won't work until that last minute though as that would make life very difficult if I went into labor here at work. Between where I work, where the hospital is and where my DH works, it would be a mess so I gotta try to make sure I am outta here before the BIG DAY!:)

You got that right! lol

I took it easy last week since there was some concern about the size of the baby. I worked out on friday and saturday. Friday I did 10 min. sol. targeted toning arms and stretch. Saturday I did Quick fix prenatal abs section.

I am starting to feel more tired too Wendy! Plus I find I need to slow myself down sometimes when I am walking too fast. Other than the tiredness, my right hip hurts every now an then but that's about all to complain about. Overall, I think I'm doing pretty good.

My husband and I are taking childbirthing classes now and it is making it even harder to wait. I want to have the baby now!

Glad to hear from everyone. Have a good week.

i've definitely been a slacker this week.
i can't seem to roll out of bed any earlier than i have to, so i can squeeze in a workout. after work is out of the question because i am usually not home til about 7:30 and i still need to make dinner and spend some time with my little one....arghhhh

everyone else...keep up the good work!
sandra-glad to see you are feeling much better.

Hey Wendy,

I'm glad to hear you get to take it easy near the end. I'm sure that final 2 week wait will be very difficult, as you get even more anxious to meet the baby, and don't have work to help keep your mind off of the Big Event! My understanding is that in the US, maternity leave is typically only for 6 weeks, so does your 2 weeks before the birth count as part of that, or do you just take that time off without any sort of pay? How long will your maternity leave be?

Cheers,
Sandra

Jen,

Will you be delivering with a midwife? At home, in a birthing centre, or at a hospital? I'm very envious!! I wish I could afford a midwife!!!

I'm glad to hear your leg got better from a bit of rest. Now if only the midwife had a cure for the common-cold, hey?

Take care,
Sandra

Hi Sandra-

I get 6 weeks maternity leave and any time I take prior to be the baby being born is a part of it...I actually do not intend to return to work and was told by more than one person that I should take my leave and then resign at the end of it. I was going to resign with 2 weeks notice b/c I didn't think I was entitled to maternity leave if I do not want to come back to work afterwards but I am being told otherwise...I will simply say that I changed my mind about coming back to work, blah blah blah...

I know I will have some things to do to keep my busy while I'm home prior to the baby being born, like cleaning the house, washing all of the baby's clothes and bedding, organizing the nursery, making sure I have enough diapers and all of that other fun stuff, etc but it's still gonna be torture! LoL I will probably work up a good fear of labor and delivery during that time too which is not going to help me any. I have been very good so far in not letting anyone (including my own imagination!) scare me but once I am home and sooo close to the BIG DAY, I'm sure I'll freak myself out more than once! lol

Have a great work out!

Sandra-I just saw a midwife cause there is one at my dr's practice. They try to make sure that pregnant women see ALL of their providers before giving birth because you never know who you will see in the delivery room. My preference would be to have an m.d. deliver the baby, so I won't have the midwife there-but she was very comprehensive during the exam. I will be delivering my baby in a regular hospital, on the labor and delivery floor.

I had a regular appt. this week, and everything was fine. The swelling is completely down, and my leg feels SO much better than lastweek. The due date has not changed one time-it is still 3/31 or 4/1. I finally remembered to put down a waterproof matress pad under the fitted sheet on my bed. I learned in childbirth class that if your water breaks at night, you might as well throw away your matress. The lady suggested a waterproof matress pad to prevent any damage.

Jen V: It is getting close for both of us. Do you have any great ideas on saying good-bye to your class? Were you planning to do anything special? They met my sub this week, and it was interesting. I was there, along with her. They, of course, told her all the things that I do. It was funny because it gave me insight on what they do when I am not there.

Take care!
-Jen
