Moment of Truth March 6

Okay, that is the first time that I have typed the word "March". Where did winter go? Time goes by so fast, and before you know it we will be wrinkled and gray. I am here to encourage you all! :p

I have a little I have to do today, I am going to get some new curtain rods for our beautiful living room and then I will finish painting the hall. Our house is starting to look like a home now, it is wonderful! :) I Love that feeling! Our light fixtures are awesome. I will get pix up eventually for you guys. ;) I have to get a move on the day, though, so I got to get going...

Today's workout will be stretching since I did 6 miles yesterday and today is a scheduled rest day. I soaked in a steaming tub yesterday so I am not as sore today as I should be. I feel nice and limber instead of stiff and awkward! :) Usually I feel really tight after a long run, so I think I need to pamper myself more often in our big tub. I haven't used it since Logan was born, it is really a shame! :(

See you soon, sweeties! :)

Missy

Good Morning!:)

Nice to see you starting the thread! You are on the ball!! I git a little bit of sleep last night at work so I feel o.k.I am sipping my coffee and I will see if I can get a run in after that.I would rather workout now and then have a nap in the afternoon.

I had my apt with the specialist at 8 a.m. It went well.I told him I was very active and he told me not to worry about it b/c I haven't lost weight and I have my periods and thats all her said! I was so happy. If he had told me to stop exercising I would have died.So I had to get blood work done, and he has me booked for an ultra sound and some other kind of test where they run dye through your tubes to see if there are any blockages.

I don't have alot to do today.I took a overtime shift for tomorrow night so I am back at it then.I dont have much time off so I do need to do housework.I may do that tonight or tomorrow morning.
Lori :)

Good Morning Lovelies!!

Missy,

Doesn't it make you feel good when you make improvements to your home? I am sure your hallway will look beautiful. What color are you painting it? And yes, I do want to see pictures. So how is your eating going?

Lori,

So your burning up that treadmill huh? Watching Red Eye and Flight Plan? Those movies have some similarities to them. Liked them both. I have been thinking about joining the gym in town just so I could use the treadmill, but would hate to get stuck watching CNN the entire time...EW! I can join there for only $35 a month. Not bad, really. I am still doing the BBM workouts and doing them with weights. Once I just did them without the weights, but hubby has told me he has noticed my legs are bigger and nicer definition, but only to the front. The back of my legs still look the same. I cannot seem to conquer what I want back there, but I am not giving up! This is war!!!!!!!! So I might ride bikes into town again with my children when they get home from school...will be 14 miles again. I am going to do Chest/Back and some shoulder work today. Following the March Rotation, but still adding in BBM for legs, etc.

Charlotte~~

Hello Missy, Lori and Charlotte.

Sorry I've been MIA. My interenet connection has been acting up and I was afraid to type too much and lose it before it posted. It had already happened on the "<---thread" and I wasn't going to let it happen again!x( The connection seems to be fine today...right now though...so I figured I'd pop in!:)

So I finished Cathe's January rotation on Friday! I was soooo happy when IMAX 3 was over! I felt sooo pumped and sooo happy that I was able to do that rotation! I took my rest day on saturday and then yesterday I was playing around at my SIL's gym. I did some machines, some other exercises with the med and stability balls and then I used the treadmill and some eliptical crosstrainer thingie. Worked out for about 1.5 hours I guess.

I originally wanted to do a strength rotation this month but I have officially chickened out due to it's lack of cardio. I am going to do a home-made ctx rotation instead. I created a 4 week rotation...all of which vary slightly and include some rebounding and daily leg work.

Gotta go do Joey time now!:+

BBL!

Hi Girls,

Charlotte, thats not bad at all for a gym membership. It would be boring though if you had to watch CNN. I rented Red Eye for Saturdays run and I just finished watching flight plan.
Do you have GS Legs.Im telling you, the floor work really burns the hamstrings. You should be able to see some results with that.

Wendy, Im so glad you are back! We thought you left us, we are so dependent on you:+ Glad to hear you survived the rotation! Did you make up your own this month are you doing a posted one?

Well, like I said, I just finished a 10 mile run and my movie.I would love to do UB now but I am just to wet! I think I need a shower and later today I will do the weight work.I wish I could do it now though and have it over with but I am a little uncomfortable in this clothes.

Lori:)

Good morning chickies!

Hey Wendy - good to see you! You are so dedicated with those rotations. I wish I could be so good.

I don't have much time to write. I need to quit working outside the home so I can spend more time with you girls! I'll run that one by my DH and see what he says. :)

I had to run to the store this morning, so my workout will be tonight - lower body. My hip is a little sore today. I pray it's not from the hour long elliptical workout yesterday. I MUST be able to do something other than cycling. Boo hoo. I love the elliptical though, so I'm going to keep at it. Maybe only once a week and other cardio the rest of the week. I just need a little variety.

Oh Lori - I'm glad your doc didn't tell you to quit exercising. AS IF that would have made you stop!!!

Hi Missy and Charlotte. :)

Hi Ladies!!

Well, I just got back from my kindergarten field. I am only taking one class this semester, which is a practicum. I have to spend 60 hours in a classroom. So, I am doing 10 hours a week for 6 weeks. I am glad I am doing this because I want to see how kindergarten works before I send Tyler off to school. I have soooooooo many issues. I hate worksheets in kindergarten. I hate that some kids have recess taken away from them as a punishment. When I saw those little kids sitting down at recess time, I just wanted to scream!!!! They need to run around...why are they sitting??? It makes me soooooo MAD!!!

I just want to go up to the teacher and ask if her/his break is ever taken away. Isn't it a law that ADULTS get so many "smoke breaks" and a lunch break? But, for children to get a break, they have to earn it. Pardon my French, but WTF?????? Recess is neccesary, not a something kids earn!!! And I HATE that stern voice some people use with those kids. If ANY staff member ever talks to my kids like that....ohhhh will the bodies by flying!!! (and then I will be in jail :).

The kindergarten teacher was really sweet, but she uses a lot of worksheets. All I saw those kiddos doing were worksheets. Today was kind of a messed up day though, so maybe they will do more "kindergarten friendly" things the next time I go. I hope so...

I have to register Tyler for kindergarten on Th. Do you think it would be out of line to tell them to never withold recess from him???

Hope you all are having a good day working out, painting, decorating, working, sleeping, etc!!!

Sara, just curious, if you ask the teachers to not take away recess for punishment, what alternative would you prefer/recommend? And what the heck kind of school district are you guys in? The school that my kids go to recess isn't earned, it is just given at least twice a day - but it is taken away as discipline when kids are disrespectful or disobedient.

I don't know if it is out of line for you to ask the teachers not to take recess away, but I can tell you what I think of the kids whose parents don't want them to be disciplined. x( They are usually not the best behaved and aren't even remotely respectful to their peers or to the teachers. IMHO I, personally, feel like it is the teacher's classroom and the teacher's rules, and if my child is misbehaving in his/her class, then I expect them to be disciplined whether it is time off of recess or writing sentences. And this may be late or I missed it and am just really dense, but are you going to be a teacher? That is kewl!!! :) I would love to spend all day in a room full of kids. Kids are the greatest!!!

Susan, did you get to listen to the James Blunt stuff? He is sorta like Coldplay, sorta like..... I don't know; he is just in a rhelm all his own. I am so bad with music genre stuff. If I like it, I like it, if I don't then I don't and I usually have no clue what it is considered. :p And you don't want to stay home and talk to us all day. You need to go to work and send some money this way, because we are almost out! :p

Missy

Hey Girls,

I just finished my housework so I don't have to do it tomorrow!!!:) :) And that makes me happy!

Sara,I think when we were in school it went the same as Missy stated.I guess if the kids don't listen then there aren't to many other things to be done with them.I do beleive that we ate our recess at our desk but we didn't get to mingle with our friends. And that was reason enough to behave the next time.
I know you think that 5 is a young age though.Looking back at pictures now I realize how small DD actually was when she was in kindergarten.I remember going to school one day and the teacher telling us we had to have a talk with DD b/c she was acting like a kitten in class all the time! LOL We weren't happy though b/c she had been told about it already. She got a tongue blasting that day, and like I said..looking back at her pics when she was 5, I wonder how were ever got mad at her.Sort of like when they are asleep and they look like angels, you forgot why you wanted to hang them upside down and hour earlier!:7 :7

Susan, I hope your hip doesn't bother you to much. That would be horrible! Buying a new toy and not being able to play with it is not cool..not cool at all!

I did PS UB work later in the afternoon.I also took a nap but I don't know how good it was cause I didn't feel like I was sleeping.

Anyway....

Lori:)

To be honest, I was on a bit of a rampage (sorry...pms). But, I do know that taking away recess is wrong. If recess is mandatory, why do teachers use it to get kids to behave. It is like, "hey, we are letting you have this necessary playtime, but if you talk, act goofy, etc., then you can not play." If a child is acting up in a classroom, he or she NEEDS to get outside. They need to release the stresses and tensions of school. What better way to relieve stress than outdoor exercise for a child?

Usually a discipline problem can be nipped in the bud (and sometimes not) if a teacher would take the right approach. It would take time and effort for a teacher to do this. However, taking away recess is much easier than trying to get to the root of the problem. The punishment must fit the crime. If a student is fighting or causing problems outside during recess, then it would be appropriate to take away recess minutes. Children, who are cooped up in stuffy classrooms for most of the day, need to go outside.

It makes me wonder if the principals of schools go around and take away lunch breaks and prep periods of the teachers who make mistakes. No, because those breaks are necessary for the teachers. Children, who do not even have a comparable attention span to adults, have their breaks taken away when they make mistakes.

I would feel much better if schools would develop a discipline procedure that would STOP problems. Taking recess away does not work. It just makes them cry and sit by themselves in shame. How fair is that??

I guess I could honestly say that I feel quite strongly about this issue. All of my professors say to not take recess away. Kids (and usually the ones that misbehave the most) need to get outside or run in the gym.

Okay...I am tired after all of that!
Talk to you all tomorrow!!
Good Night.....

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that writing sentences is a big no no. The kids are sitting in school all day striving to read and write well. Their grades depend on it. It would not make sense to make them write sentences. If I were punished with writing, I would hate writing. Why would a teacher work his/her butt off all day teaching writing skills and than turn around and use it as a punishment? That makes no sense to me. If a teacher ever makes any of my children write sentences, I think I would pull them out of that classroom. An effective, smart, and updated teacher would not use writing as a punishment.

This is just some of the stuff I have learned in school, and I am shocked that these procedures are used in schools. These administrators and teachers know better, but they still do what is wrong. This must be why foreign countries (like Belgium and Denmark) are so much more advanced than the US.

One more thing, Indiana has not outlawed spanking. What??? Oh, I don't even need to get going on this one......

Okay, I will shutup and go to bed now.

Hey Sara,

Now I'm not trying to start trouble, I'm just curious. If you aren't supposed to punish kids with taking away recess or by making them write sentences, what is the proper way? What are they teaching you in school? If they're teaching that these things are bad, they must be teaching was is good?

I don't have kids, but I remember the writing thing. And I don't hate writing at all. Of course I was quite the little angel. }(
