Hi !
Yesterday I got Eat to Live at the library and this morning aftr my spinnning cardio I read the whole book. The gist of it is to make your diet plant based and eliminate ofr severley decrease animal products. I have done the first step with eliminating meat. The eggs have been drastically reduced too. The (lo fat only) dairy and fish are still present in my choices so far.

Shannon- have you read this book?

Today-
B-1 slice sprouted bread, 1/2 cup lf cottage cheese, pear
L- split pea soup (vegetarian) with added spinach
raw broccoil and carrots
S- 2 fruits 1 oz. nuts ( I will have to measure!)
D- 2 oz. Whole wheat pasta topped with sauteed eggplant chunks, onions, spinach, and sundried tomatoes. Lg salad w/ 1 Tbsp ground flaxseed and good seasons vinagrette.

WEll ladies I ate like a proverbial pig last night. Things I would never normally eat! I can tell "it's" almost here.

I'll try again today:

B - lo carb toast with pb
L - baked potato with brocolli and cheese
S - Apple
D - ?????

I didn't exercise this morning. I will regroup for tomorrow.
Hope you ladies have a HAPPY ST. PADDY'S DAY

Judy - I'm reading it right now! How on earth did you finish it in one sitting? I'm already a vegetarian. The stuff he says about cheese grosses me out - of course, I already kind of knew it but ignored it because I want to eat cheese! I'm working to increase the green stuff.

What did you think about it? PM me if you want. I wouldn't mind talking about it!

Goodmorning to everyone.

I am so excited as my new treadmill is being assembled as I type. Will take her for a test drive this morning. :D

Took the kids shopping yesterday which is always a treat as we don't have any large malls in our area so have to drive 2 hours any direction. Lunch was a food court salad with grilled chicken and a fresh fruit cup. The salad actually had two broccoli crowns in it as well. I hate paying $5 for a salad but it sure beats a burger or Subway.

B=egg hardcooked on half a ww english muffin, pear, tea.
S=smootie of some sort, kids favorite food these days.
L=spaghetti with meatless sauce and side salad.
S=nuts and apple
D=???

Ohhhh...guys are done with treadmill, gotta go!

Shannon-
Having a health related background I skimmed quickly over the medical pages to just get the main points. I also skipped the testamonials etc.

My impression is that a plant based diet is quite beneficial to most of us. Can I do it? We'll see. I am still eating lo- and no-fat dairy and and fish. Also, I think it might be hard to get enough colories with only one starch or whole grain cup per day if doing a Cathe rotation.

However, I am at least going to try to really increase my veggies and fruit. Nuts or seeds are not really a part of my regular menus except natural PB which when I do eat is too big a portion.

Another suggestion I like and will try is to incorporate ground flax seed 1 TBSP daily.

What are your thoughts?

Hey, Judy -
I think I'm just getting to the part where he really gets specific about his dietary recommendations. I'm anxious to read that, because I'm looking for more input about going vegan. But I can't really comment just yet.

However, if he only recommends one starch a day, I'll probably have to alter it a bit! I imagine you're right.

I just finished the section where he comments on the various other diets - Atkins, Zone, etc. I wasn't impressed with that, and it made my opinion of him drop. His writing sounded inflammatory and insulting - in other words, not much like a professional doctor, but like someone who wanted to bash others to make himself sound better. Because of that, I find myself taking what he's said elsewhere much more critically.

I did get that impression too. But I still think the basics of what he proposes are beneficial. It is a sign of insecurity when someone has to put something or someone else down to make their argument look good.

Onee more thing. He says "eat mushroomes every day." But the reason is because they are chewy? Isn't there enough chewing already with a pound of raw veggies per day??????

Still, I can get past his attitude and listen to the message. However, I won't buy the book.

Judy -
I can't wait to get to these little gems you're telling me about. Mushrooms every day because they're chewy? Weird. I don't think of them as chewy.

Yes, the whole concept of eating more fresh produce makes plenty of sense to me. I'll be interested to find how much is actually different from what I already understand about veganism and vegetarianism. I did buy the book, so I hope I end up thinking that it's worth keeping.

I think Carole followed his diet pretty closely for a while. I need to dig up some of those old threads.
