Things have finally calmed down, so I’d like to share our story with all of you.
After 8 weeks of bed rest and about 20 visits to Labor and Delivery I was taken off all my medications that were suppressing my contractions from being productive contractions. I went off all my medications on the morning of October 10th. Of course I ended up contracting all day. The doctor on call advised us to go back to L & D – and after 5 hours we left with me measuring 1cm dialated and 50 % effaced. I woke up the next morning to quite painful contractions, very different than what I had been experiencing, that were coming about every 5 minutes or so. I went to see the doctor covering for my dr and she gave me Percaset (sp?) and sent me home with orders to go back to L & D if they didn’t get better. After two hours on the drugs and a warm bath – it was obvious they were not going to go away. So I went to L & D, to find out I had progressed to 75% effaced. The doctor ordered me to walk for 2 hours to see if I dialated or not. If I were to dialate then they would to the c/s that night. I called DH to meet me at the hospital, just in case. After the two hours were up I had dialated to 2.5 cm. It took another 4 hours before they could get me into the O.R. and boy was I BEGGING for my spinal block, to my dismay I couldn’t get it until I was in the O.R. so I had to labor without it until then. ( Btw my hats off to those who labor without drugs, I have no clue how dialated I was before I ended up delivering but I was huurrrtttting!) Miriam was born at 10:39 pm on October 11th. It was a little scary at first when she was born, cause she was not making much sound. My poor DH watched as the pediatrician started to get ready to intubate her, and finally she really belted out. I didn’t know that things were looking so bad, and thank God I did not. After that things looked up and her lungs seemed fine and she was pinking up quite well. She was 36 weeks even by u/s dating, weighing a good 6 lbs 4 oz and was 19 iches long, and topped with brown hair. In the recovery room she nursed well for a newborn, which was SO relieving to me. We were discharged on Saturday and have been home and content since. Anthony is extremely sweet to his little sister and is quite tender to her. This morning he talked to her in her co-sleeper while I was dressing – how mama was going to take care of her and give her milk soon. His conversation went on about 5 minutes bringing tears to my eyes. The only set back so far with Anthony is he doesn’t want to leave home for any reason, and skipped school Monday and almost skipped seeing his grandma today. I think he’s afraid I’m going back to the hospital, which makes me sad – knowing all this has been trying on him as well. But I’m sure after a week home things will begin to seem normal once again.
I can't believe you guys found her pic - to funny. Anyway that's her, and I'm thrilled to be home and recovering. So far recovery has been well. I'm gonna take it easy as far as getting back into working out. This pregnancy was hard on my body and I didn't gain very much, but boy things are still um way different everywhere! I look forward to getting back into Cathe and getting this belly down! I actually dreampt about Cathe the other night LOL - guess I'm more excited to get back to normal than I realized!
Thanks for all the support here, it's been nice - and still will be - to talk to ladies in the same type of situations - busy mommies! I'll post on the postpartum thread from now on.
