Minnie is a very happy kitty

First off let me just say MY JOB SUCKS!!!!!!!!

OK thanks for letting me get that out of the way. :+

My dad took Minnie home on Saturday night. Naturally I've been checking in every day. Dad absolutely ADORES her, he says she's the sweetest cat he's ever had. He was concerned about his older cats (both 14+ years) but apparently they've both taken to her very well & they're all getting along.

Minnie is using her litterbox & has had no incidents of going in the wrong place. She's eating well, getting a ton of affection from my dad & playing w/the older cats (for about 5 minutes at a time, after that they tucker out). She has found a home where she truly belongs & is loved, & I feel much, much better. :)

Thanks to all who listened to me fret over this. Your input & support was invaluable. Now who can tell me how to prevent the rodents from moving back in?

seal doors and windows that have any spaces in it between that and the frame. You can buy the strips from Lowe's or Home Depot that roll out like tape, foam rubber on one side and tape on the other.
Central air units are hard to block out rodents.
That's awesome that Minnie loves hew new home!

That's great, Laura!

You really need to go into the basement and put steel wool into any nook that looks like a critter can get through. That, and occasionally borrow the cat back. :)

Laura, I'm so glad everything worked out well for you, Minnie and your Dad. I hope the mice have learned their lesson and don't come back.

I'm glad Minnie's found happiness! And that your dad has a new love to add to his cat family.

As for preventing rodents: how about a snake? LOL!

And remember that mice can squeeze through holes the size of a dime, and can also get in through dryer vents that are not sealed and in other small crevices.

That is so exciting that Minnie has found her home! I'm so happy for you. It's nice that it was able to be your dad as well, that way you know she is safe. And then you can visit too. Yea for noaccidents as well.
Sorry, I don't have any advice for the mice other than make sure you patch any cracks in your foundation, you would be suprised what a mouse can fit through. Make sure you don't have any food stored down there. Especially your dog food...(I think you said you have a dog?!) Mice love pet food.

Yeah we've been through all that. I seriously tried everything possible before I got Minnie--I had an exterminator coming out on a weekly basis. He said based on the amount of bait they were consuming I had something like 40 mice living in my house!

Steel wool, expandable caulk, nailing planks over holes, electronic repellents from Sharper Image, you name it.......they're such stubborn suckers (did you know mice have no backbones & that's why they can fit thru such small holes?) & I live in an urban environment, lots of restaurants plus construction going on right behind me. Also a 120 YO house, it's pretty much impossible to find every hole & crack in a house that old.

The good news is as of last night I have a contract on my house & think it's actually sold, so I'll be moving to a much more suburban setting. :) Hopefully a rodent-free suburban setting. ;-)
