Migraines

Last night around 7 I took my 13 month old son and our dog for a 2 1/2 mile run. We have done this at least 4 other times in the past 2 weeks so it is not unusual. Normally it would take me 30 minutes to run it but my pace must have been slower because it took me 40 minutes to complete it. Afterwards I drank 32 oz. of water and then took a shower. The afternoon was pretty hot and humid here, but not unbearable. Around 10 that night I had a migraine come on. (I always know when one is coming on because my whole left side of my body goes numb, hands, fingers, tongue, face, etc.) I generally get a migraine 2 or 3 times a year. Do you think that maybe I had a small case of heat exhaustion that triggered it? It has not came on after a workout before so I may be grabbing at straws.

Hi Kristi,
I can empathize with your migraines. I've been having lots and lots of them this summer. Currently, 5 in a row! Talk about Pain.... whoa!
While you can look up migraines on the internet...there is tons of info, I do know that overexhaustion can trigger one. Also, because of this hot, humid and low oxygen weather, this too, can bring the headaches on. One of the reasons for migraines is a lack of oxygen to the brain.
Since my migraine medicine is extremely expensive, I'm going to be doing an experiment (nothing left to lose as this therapy will cost roughly $40 a year as opposed to $18 a pill) over the next few months. I want to see if this kind of therapy will lessen my frequency of headaches. I'll post here if I get good results. Then if anyone wants to know what I did, they can email me. I wouldn't want to advocate any treatment over another. I would simply say if this worked for me....a long time migraine sufferer...or not. :p

When I do MIC, Imax or BodyMax, I can count on having a migraine, especially in this kind of weather. :-(

Hope you are feeling much better today. I send you a hug.

This summer i have been having headache after headache...and a few migraines too. It really does have alot to do with the hot weather...roll on Winter! lol Never thought i'd say that before!

Thank you both. I am feeling better today, but my head is still tender (I don't know of a better descriptive word for it) from all of the pressure last night from the migraine. I feel for you if you have them all the time. They are never fun. I'm lucky at least in the aspect that I now when one is coming on, my fingers and hand become numb first, and mine do not occur very frequently. This past year I have been able to stop the migraine from occuring once I notice the symptoms by going straight to bed and sleeping it off, but last night it did not work. Mine normally occur during the summer as well. I concur that it must be the heat. I'm with you there Icklemoley, roll on fall and winter. I can always workout harder during the cooler/cold months without worrying as much about a migraine. Wanda, good luck trying the therapy. My heart goes out to you in your experiment. Anything is worth a try. At least you have the medicine as a back up plan if the therapy does not pan out.
