Might-Move-to-Pittsburgh Update - more help needed!

Thanks to all of you who helped me out several weeks ago when I posted about my husband's job interview in Pittsburgh! :)

We're going back in a couple of weeks for a second round of talks for DH, a tour with a realtor, and possibly an informational interview for me at PNC Bank. (I'm in the insurance and financial planning field - but not sales.)

I have to say, the weekend we were there wasn't so nice weather-wise, and, like many cities, Pittsburgh didn't seem very inviting in the drizzle. Downtown seemed kind of dead -but it was Labor Day weekend so maybe it's not always like that? We did spend a pleasant afternoon at Station Square and we road the Duquesne Incline.

Of course, the FIRST thing we did was buy a detailed map. We never would have been able to get around armed only with the rental car map!

What are the property taxes like? All I could think of was that it must take a lot of money to keep all the bridges and tunnels in good repair!

I have to say, I really like the look of the Mt. Lebanon area - I like the style of homes, the neighborhood feel....but some of you have me concerned about the length of the commute to downtown during rush hour. Anybody know how long it would really take?? Be honest!

Based on everyone's previous comments and our own exploration, I'm also interested in Shadyside and Squirrel Hill.

Any additional comments and "plugs" for the city you want to throw in are welcome! I might PM those of you who so kindly offered me that option.

It's scary to think of moving, but I grew up in Detroit and lived in Chicago, so Pittsburgh COULD feel like home to me in a way Charlotte, NC does not.

Thanks again!
