Mentos and Diet Coke

My BIL did this. Said it wasn't so spectacular. I guess you have to make sure you use DIET because it has more carbonation than the regular kind.

I don't think you have to use diet, but according to the article in the paper this morning, diet is less sticky. PHyl

Well, since I don't like Diet Coke or Mentos, I can't think of anything else I'd rather do with those 2 items--lol! I wonder how they managed to keep their lab coats sparkling white?

We did this on the 4th of July. We bought 2 bottles of diet coke and put half a box of mentos in each. The soda shot out about 5 feet into the air. We were shocked at how well it "blew up" because we expected it to be nothing. We all thought it was funny but was out of diet coke. We used regular coke and it worked as well. Just very messy. All the kids thought it was quite entertaining.

We did the same thing on the 4th of July. It was a big party and a blast for the kids.

Ours bottles shot up at least 10-15 ft. My hubby drilled a hole into the cap that was the size of the mentos. He then strung together 4 or 5 mentos that he hung from a string. He then dropped them through the cap and it shot up very high.

My DH did the same thing! He heard about this a month ago and instantly became obsessed with trying it and perfecting his technique. LOL We invited a few of the neighbor kids over and they had a "blast" (pun intended).
