Men and Power Stepping

Do many guys get into Power Stepping?
I've been doing the Power Max portion of
the Cardio Hits DVD, and really like it.
I used to do circuit trainning and aerobics
as a cardio work out. Power stepping gives me a
much more challenging cardio workout to go along with my
weight lifting. Running and biking aren't good
for my back and knees. Only thing is, my hamstrings
get extremely tight. Will this go away with time?
I always perfrom proper streching.

Should a guy feel weird doing that DVD? I mean,
I hope they weren't made sctrictly for women.

Any thoughts?

Glenn

You should never feel weird doing such great things for your body. Powermax is one of my favorites but I have to have a high energy day to make it through. It should be a bonus for you. You get to work out and look at pretty women at the same time!! LOL! Anyway, as far as your hamstrings go, mine get really tight so you might want to do more hamstring stretching before as well as after. That seems to be what helps me the most.

Good luck to ya and glad to see some more men. Maybe Trevor can join in and give you some "manly" advice!

Kelly

P.S. After reading my post I thought I might have given you the idea that I was a man. I know several men named Kelly. Anyway, I am all woman...LOL! Just had to get that straight! :)

Welcome Glenn!!

I think it's great that you are adding step to your program!! Cathe's tapes (& DVD's) are not for wimps! I think her tapes challenge the most fit athlete's. I considered myself an advanced exerciser til I tried some of her step tapes and although I can get through them, I AM challenged. If you want to try something super challenging, get IntervalMax. It has stepping and 10 intervals that will kick your butt! Fun, fun tape too! I agree with Kelly(Our FEMALE Kelly!:7) be sure you stretch EXTRA before and after and see if that doesn't help loosen your hams some more. Good Luck and hope to "see" you around.

Glenn,

I thing its GREAT that you enjoy stepping. IT is an amazing workout whether you are a man or woman. In fact my husband use to question "how hard could a video be" and I had him do it- well he know knows its tough stuff! Saying stepping is just for women is like saying running is just for men. Not so!!! So if you enjoy cathe's tapes, by all means don't feel weird about it. I am married, but if I was single and met a man who enjoyed step, I would think that was great and that he must be fit.

so enjoy!

Absolutely NOT for women only! Welcome to the club. About a quarter of my 'power step 3 class' at the gym is comprised of men. And they are all Manly-Buffed men. A few come with wives.
I can't tell you how many of my weight-lifting guy-buddies have said they have so much respect for cardio people (referring to group class people: step and hi-low) because it is such a rough workout.
On the hamstring thing, you are just getting used to a new movement. Add some extra post-exercise stretch time for your hams until they adjust.

Hi, Glenn!

I second DebbieH's "pitch" for the Interval Max workout! From everything I've seen, it is without a doubt the toughest workout on the market, and Miss Cathe really delivers when she says in the intro, "You will get stronger and stronger, and be able to go longer and longer not only through this workout but also through your other workouts." I-Max gives you aerobic, anaerobic AND lower body muscle strengthening. It has an athletic feel to it that I personally like!

Don't get strung out about the "guy" thing - remember, Rosey Grier, that huge huge man, did needlepoint! Do what YOU want to do and can benefit from!

Glenn,
If it's any consolation, my husband will do Interval Max with me because he really likes all the plyometrics. He's not very good at the stepping in between the intervals, but he makes up something a little less complicated and sticks with it. He's also a rugged guy who lifts, runs, mountainbikes, climbs... so enjoy!
Amy

Thanks all!!! For sure I'll increase my
streching routine some more. Sound advice.
Also, I will try that Interval Max soon.
Enjoy being part of the gang.

Peace! - Glenn
