question for you

when did you start jogging with your baby? i have a lovely jogging stroller and just bought and insert so finn can at least go for walks in it. he is 7 weeks old and getting so strong. the people that sold me the insert said to wait until 12 weeks. i thought i'd see what you all did.

by the way melanie, i think training for a half marathon is a great idea. i wish i had the time, but i don't think that will work for finn's current feeding schedule. yesterday i did 8 miles outside and it was so nice. 59 degrees and no humidity!

When I bought my stroller they told me 6 months. That is what is says in the manual as well. I would be interested to see what others have been told.

Along the same lines, has anyone found a good nursing bra to wear while jogging or do you just wear a sports bra and then change later? I went running today and by nursing bra provided no support at all!

It is much nicer for running here as well. 70 degrees instead of high 90's!

Thanks

Rachel

rachel, i wear a sports bra over my nursing bra and find i have plenty of support, even first thing in am. i am by no means extremely well endowed, but it works for me:) the 6 month thing in your manual, is that for jogging only or walking too?

Just jogging. In fact my carrier fits in the stroller. It is nice. The carrier can go from the stroller into a base in the car, becomming a car seat. I wish I had done this with my first! I was forever getting her out of her carrier and into the car seat. Also, I had two strollers. One that held the carrier and a separate jogging stroller.

I got the new jogging stroller because my mother-in-law ran over the other one.

Yes! I was just checking the post, and I saw my name. It sure made me feel good. Thank you. :D

My jogging strollers have been BabyJogger brand, which I believe have stated 6 weeks for using. I have a kiddopatamous snuzzler(sp) insert which craddles babies during the run. It makes them so comfy. My strollers have always reclined too, so I would put them in the Snuzzler & then recline to about 20-30 degree angle. My babies were born in November & January. With each of them I started jogging in March...when weather finally permitted! It's so hard to squeeze in workouts with little ones, but if they like the jogger you can go ANY time.

BTW, I opted not to do the 1/2 marathon b/c it was 3 hrs away & too short of notice. I wasn't going to train per se, just do it. I was hyped that I was able to complete the 10K a couple weekends ago, and with not too much of an effort. This surprised me as I normally only jog 4-5 miles at a stretch. If you think about it, marathoners don't run 26 miles all the time...they work there way up to 10-12 miles at a stretch and just "wing it".

As far as bras go, I squeeze my nursing Ds into my normal B cup sports bras (that are so old now I won't even embarrass myself with their age). I almost dislocated my shoulders getting into the darn things, but it keeps my boobies stable. I DO make a point of taking it off IMMEDITALEY after working out, so I won't supress milk production.

Morris, you are doing awesome....I've glanced at your workouts/recovery and you are amazing Rachel. What a fit group we have.

BTW, I have two double strollers two. Although I think I could have gotten away with just the jogger double. Oh well. Live and learn. :)

thanks for the info guys. i inherited a dreamer design stroller. i do not think it reclines. i am hopeful he will be up for jogging by 3 months - he is a definate stroller baby!

melanie, i am sure you could wing a half marathon, but that 3 hr drive would definately detract from the pleasure for me.

I apologize for hijacking the thread but I'm posting this question on a total whim!

I want to get a jogging stroller in THE WORST WAY but I am planning to have another baby in the next year or so. Buying a brand new single jogger would be dumb at this point and buying a double, well, until I actually HAVE a 2nd baby I will NOT do that.

SO...my question is...anyone have a single jogger that they are looking to sell perhaps?? :) Please PM me if you do!:+

Thanks and sorry to interrupt!

Hi Wendy! I just sold my single stroller this summer. :( My suggestion would be to get a single jogger at Target, then sell on eBay or garage sale when your next one comes. I bought a single Baby Jogger brand, knowing I would have another one...then sold it for almost as much as I paid for it...so it's not silly... As a matter of fact we might have another one (if we can get over the Terribe Twos) then I will be selling my double for a triple!!!!

Hi Melanie!

Aw man! I would have grabbed your stroller up if I had known! It never occurred to me to post about wanting one until I saw this thread! Oh well! I guess I was too slow! :7

I know Target sells singles that are not ridiculous in price. I have thought about getting one but just keep telling myself it's not worth it. Maybe I should though...if they re-sell that well then I'll have to reconsider!

There is going to be a town-wide garage sale in my hometown next month. I may have to go peruse it before going to buy one at Target...I just might get lucky!;)

Thanks for responding!:)

My single stroller sold for about $150 plus shipping, which is more than the 10K InStep at Target brand new... It would be perfect for short-term and much easier to sell locally. I had to sell my single jogger on eBay which was I real pain to package and ship (but worth it financially). My advice: KEEP THE BOX!!!!!!
Good luck!

Oh Melanie...You are tempting me soooo badly! LOL Now I don't know if I'll be able to WAIT to check out those yard sales first! :p LOL

I found a deal on line for like $85.00 and that INCLUDES shipping. It's called The Instep Runaround Stroller. It's a pretty basic single jogger which is fine for me. It was on clearance in a site that I found through shopzilla.com.

I was watching a few strollers on ebay and this particular type was getting close to auction close and I was considering bidding but I wanted to see if I was getting a good deal so I checked it out and this deal that I found was better!:)

Hello,
You have a good question. I ran all through out my pregnancy and finished a 1/2 marathon at 32 weeks so I didn't think it would be a problem getting back after the baby. I started getting back to running about 6 weeks post pardum. I was diong really well for a few months than I started to develop a lot of hip and hamstring pain. Basically I was told that I went back to running too soon. My joints still had the relaxin hormone. The lesson learned would be to do a less high impact work out for at least 4 months and then gradually resume running. I am 11 months postpartum and I am up to 16 miles for a long run. I still get some hip pain but its getting better.

I use the BOB stroller and love it. They have an adapter for the carrier which was really useful
