Hey everyone,
I am starting to get my own medical billing and coding business underway, and was wondering if anyone has any experience in the field or any helpful advice. I am planning to work out of my home.

I don't have any knowledge or experience with medical billing, I just wnted to wish you well and great success in your new venture.:)

First of all, have a great time!!! I did front office and medical billing for years. I found it's best to play the insurance game on their rules, and not try to fight back until you absolutely have to. I found that going into a phone call and sounding clueless and kind worked best when speaking with insurance reps. Don't forget that you can feel free to ask to speak with a supervisor when you're on the phone!!!!! ;)

What do you need to know?? What system are you using?? What kind of Doctor are you billing for?? Once you get the hang of it it's a piece of Cake!!!! Good Luck and don't get to stressed!!!! Easier said then done but it is an excited new career change try and enjoy it!!!!

Thanks Becky! Your post sounds so encouraging. I am going to be using Medisoft and I guess ET&T clearinghouse. I am ordering them this week. I plan to work for any kind of doctor, just not dentistry. I have my business cards and fliers and will be chooosing some to mail to. I just want to have the software up and running so I am ready to start immediately when someone hires me. The course was really easy for me, but it is a little scary going out on your own.
Do I take it that I can PM you some time if I have more questions???

This is something that I've thought about doing for a long time but had no idea HOW? What course did you take and where? There's so many scams out there I didn't know where to go that was reputable. I'd appreciate any info you care to share!

Thanks, I'll check it out. I've been thinking about going to a technical school but not crazy about going to night school after working all day and now I have a new grandbaby (my first) which I'll be watching at night. I'm interested in this for my retirement years. Anybody else have any advice?
