I met with my new chiropractor on Friday and she did some evaluations: she took xrays of my low back and neck, did a grip test and weight distribution test. She told me I was very strong (my favorite part of the visit!! :))

My weight distribution is off- I stand about 13 pounds more on my right foot than my left, and she said when she put me flat, my right leg is about 1/2 inch shorter than my left!! (not leg length, a pelvis issue) My right hand can grip about 15 "points" more than my left. She said they allow for 5 points different on both exams.

Have any of you encountered this kind of thing? I'm having troubles with my left shoulder and I have a stress fracture in my lower left leg that still doesn't feel healed after 2 years.

I'm just curious what I might expect from a chiropractor- this was my first visit. I go back Wednesday to talk about my xrays with her and hear what she thinks. I'm interested in any results anyone has had?

Thanks so much!

Amy...I have done those tests a few times! My weight has seemed to balance out now. I don't think I was off 13 lbs but I know I wasn't even. Honestly many people have a discrepancy in leg lengths. A Chiropractor can really help here if it is a pelvic issue.

It will make more sense when you go back Wednesday. I have gone regularly for about 7 years and have been truly amazed at what they can adjust. She can help too with the shoulder but I have heard stress fractures can take some time to heal...

Let us know how the next appt goes...:)..Carole

The stress fracture has been there a loooooong time, it only flares up when I do something like a long run. Which I did right before my visit, because I wanted her to see me as messed up as I get, LOL. :D

The pelvis thing sounds pretty accurate to me, I haven't been able to figure out why only my left side gets injured. I know my legs are the same length since I used to work for a podiatrist and he measured them when fitting me for orthotics. The pelvis part is new information, though, and I can't wait to see what happens.

She wasn't going to take xrays of my pelvis since she said she didn't need them, but then she changed her mind because she thought I'd be interested in seeing them. I thought that was a great touch. I am dying of curiousity!!!

She sounds like a good Chiropractor. I think it was a good thing she did pelvic X-rays. I have a strong opinion about letting a Chirpractor even touch me without X-rays. I think the majority of them do the X-rays though...thankfully...I am also curious to know what her advice will be for you Amy...:)...Carole

SI joint issues can make one leg look longer than the other, even though they are not. What I have is SI joint issues, which could be what she is talking about with the pelvic issue. It was interesting that when looking at my x-ray, the chiropractor pointed out an area that looked like an old injury and some arthritis from it. He asked if I had fallen down the stairs about 10 years ago and cracked my tailbone. At first I could not think of anything and then my DH(who totally did not trust me going to a chiropractor), said, well yes, remember when DD was a baby, and you slipped on the stairs while carrying her, and took the hit to save her. You hurt for months.

The chiropractor said that was probably the beginning of my issues.

I don't tolerate the lying on your side adjustment at all. When I first started going and he was using that technique, I was not having any improvement. I finally spoke up and he changed to a drop table technique, and the improvement was immediate. So if you are not getting relief, speak up, there are various techniques.

Also, small things you don't think about can affect your hips and spine, such as crossing your legs, or sitting on your legs, forcing you to lean to one side. I have to remember when sitting at my desk, not to do that, or I throw things out of wack.
