Maternity Leave

This morning I talked to my boss about my maternity leave. If all goes as planned I'm going to have a nice long leave - about 5 months. I'm due on Oct 4th and will use sick days until Nov 8, then from Nov 8-Dec 8 I am going to work 1/2 days and use my vacation time (I can come in during the evenings when nobody is here and can bring the baby!!!). Then from Dec 9- March 9 will be my FMLA leave. So I'm looking to return to work early in March. Yippee!!!

Congratulations! That is awesome.

I am not coming back after the baby but my co-worker who had a baby a few years ago worked something out like that. Thank God for family friendly workplaces.

That's a great maternity leave! I probably would have seen if I could work out a deal like that if I were returning to work. That's awesome!

Dana, your maternity leave looks great! I'm amazed at the number of sick/vacation days you have saved up. My work is so stingy. I only get 5 sick days & 10 vacation days a year. I've worked for this company for over 8 years. I certainly wish my maternity leave was like yours. As it stands I get 8 weeks full pay maternity leave (short term disability). However the first week I have to either use sick or vacation or a combo of both to start with. Thank goodness the year will almost be over by the time I will be returning to work because I won't have hardly any vacation or sick time left. Enjoy your long time off work!!

Are you going to work until you go into labor or are you going to start your maternity leave earlier? I think I am going to ask the doctor to induce me due to a few factors. DH's work keeps sending him out-of-town and we don't have any family that lives close by. My MIL, who lives 2 hours away, will be in the delivery room with DH and I, with my FIL watching my 3 year old son. If the doctor induces me then I can make sure we have everything planned out so we won't need to bring DS to the hospital with us until my inlaws get there. Otherwise I guess I will work up until I go into labor. I would hate to waste a couple weeks around the house just waiting for the baby to arrive because it will eat into my leave with the baby.

I"m envious, but happy for you. I plan on taking 12 weeks off. 8 wks paid maternity leave, 3 weeks banked vacation time, and 1 week unpaid. ;) I can't imagine having FIVE months off. That's awesome!!!

Kristi I'm working until I go into labor. I can see the hospital from our parking lot at work so I'm thinking I'll just keep a packed bag in my car (just in case).
