Maternity leave coming to an end..

My maternity leave is about to run out and I am driving myself crazy deciding whether or not to go back to work! I work 4 days a week with Wednesdays off and my mother-in-law can't wait to watch her. So, atleast I do not have to stress about finding childcare. I just don't want to make the wrong choice here. If you are financially able to stay home..should you? Any help here would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Steph

All I can say is YES! If you can stay home and if you cannot try and find a way!! You will not regret it! I have two DDs 4 and 6 and it has been wonderful to be home with them and be their mommy!

Good luck w/your decision,
Mary

On the other side of that, I will not be staying home.

I personally need another outlet for my energy. I can't spend all of my time on my little one, I need something else to do, or else I'll go crazy.

It's a personal choice for everyone. But keep in mind that no decision you make is permanent. You can always try one thing, and change your mind later!

I have the best of both worlds- I work 3 days a week. I love my arrangement. It's nice earning some $$, putting money in a 401-k and still being able to attend playgroups and pick my kids up from school. A lot stay at home moms I know work from home (freelance writers, etc) or work a couple days a month (per diem nurses, rx rep auditors, etc).

My personal opinion is this: it is smart to have your foot in the door of a career of some type if you are able- parttime, fulltime, freelance, once a month, etc. You just never know when you might need to work again. Again, just my personal opinion.

I would stay at home as much as I could. I love my job, but I love being with my kids even more. Even aa a SAHM, there are many opportunities to get out and bond with other women/adults. Childhood is for a moment, work is forever.

I work as little as I can for now,...when kids are older,...then I'll kick in the hours and get serious about paying down mortgages and student loans. ;)

As mentioned earlier, it's a personal choice. ;)

Steph,
You have to do what is right for you. Don't let anyone influence your decision. That's the best advice I can give you.

Thank you all for all of your advice. I am not sure why I didn't realize this before, but I know now that whatever I decide is not permanent. Thank you again very much:)

Okay, so I have decided to go back to my job but have made an agreement with my boss to work just 2 days a week. I was surprised at her suggestion to reduce my hours rather than just quit:)

I'm glad it worked out for you. I was a mostly SAHM and worked a couple days until my kids went to school and I'm so glad I did it that way. It gave me more than enough time with the kids and I still had somewhat of my own life with work.
