had to ask after reading your post about your tear and recovery - you sound as though you are feeling good. are you? i thought 4th degree tears were really really uncomfortable. i am so impressed you are walking and able to do abs. is it not as bad as i have read? how is the little (or not so little:)) guy doing? are you getting a bit of rest?

I was just thinking about you!!! Well the 1st week was a little rough. I was sore and I did not want to use the bathroom. The tear was front to back and up towards my bladder which is why I may need a specialist if it does not heal properly but so far so good. I have to say that I feel great and I am ready to work out asap. As far as rest...not so much. I work form home with the kids so there is no such thing as maternity leave for me. Andrew is sleeping a little bit longer because I am now giving him 6 oz. bottles, hopefully this will last!! How are you feeling? I am sooo excited for you to have the baby. Are you having any strong contractions? I know it is going to be soon!!

thanks for the speedy reply. that is fantastic that after just a week you are feeling so good - must have been very good stitches! i hope you do not need a specialist. it must be promising if you are feeling so good.

are you giving andrew the bottles of formula to supplement breast milk, or pumping, or both?

i am feeling very good today. weird energy surge, but i will take it. i had another us, and my fluid remains adequate. i have increased my exercise slightly, but nothing crazy. no contractions yet, but i am having some bleeding. i hope this means things are progressing. i am so very very excited.

i hope you are not expected to be working now?! that must be tough. by the way, what is your other son's name?

My other son is named Jake, it is funny when I got home from the hospital my dh was trying to get me to do paperwork. I dont think men will ever understand what having a baby is like. I think you are going to have a great labor because you are so active. I abmire your energy. I thought having a baby at 32 would be harder but I think keeping active helps with everything. How old are you?(I hope you dont mind that I asked you that) and what names are you thinking of? Oh and I am feeding both breast and bottle although after I breastfeed he is still starving, I tell my husband that my breast milk is like a salad and the formula is his entree.

2 courses per meal sounds good for a large baby. we have decided to name our little guy finn morris. cannot agree on a middle name yet - my choice is joseph.

i am 29. of course do not mind you asking. i am glad to hear that this baby was not too hard for you at 32 as i know we will want another. i had such a hard (relatively speaking) time getting pregnant, i know we won't take too long to start trying. sounds crazy right now as i am really looking forward to not being pregnant, but, we do want more than one!

i love the name jake. i have a nephew named jake.

one other quick question - all the books talk about "nipple confusion" and waiting on bottles for a few weeks. obviously you could not do that, and it sounds like your little one is so hungry, he is certainly not confused. any tips? i plan to pump so my dh can help feed and day care can give breast milk. thanks!

Hope you don't mind my jumping in. With my first I waited 4 days and then gave the bottle to supplement breast milk. This was not by design I was just desperate for sleep! She was not getting enough milk from me at first. The lactation consultant told me to feed with a medicine cup if I had to supplement. This was impossible!

She was never confused. I went back to work at 2 months. If she was with me I breast fed. If she was with the babysitter she got a bottle. We did this for 13 months and it worked great. I pumped twice a day at work to keep up my milk production for weekends.

I am lucky I only work 3 days a week now.

I am going to try the same thing with the new one. I hope it works as well!

I was fortunate too with Andrew. He was not confused and easily transitioned from breast to bottle. The only thing I do is always give the breast 1st. Sometimes Andrew will open his mouth too wide for the bottle thinking it is me but if I push his chin up towards the bottle he latches right on. I love the name Finn , it is such a cool name. I had my 1st when I was 29 and I was 7 weeks preggo at my 1st sons 2nd birthday. I like that they are close in age but it is a little hectic at times when they both need me. I am blessed to have my mom who lives around 30 minutes away so she comes over 2-3 per week The only problem is I live on long island so the traffic can be crazy which can make her commute even longer. I hired a mothers helper(17 year old girl)who will be starting in 1 1/2 weeks so hopefully I can workout and get work done when she is here. The only thing I will also say about breastfeeding is that the 1st few days are a little hard because of recovery and being tired but as soon as your milk comes in it does get easier.(my milk does not come in until day 6)Sorry I am jumping around so much...the mind of an aquarian tends to do that!! Are you planning on working also?

thanks to you both for the great info. i find it very reassuring. i will be going back to work after 12 weeks. plan to try 3 to 3.5 days a week. i know it will not tbe easy, but i truly love my work. as far as pumping at work, rachel, you said you do it twice. that would certainly be managable for me. any tips on the timing of it? i know we will find our own rhythum, but i like to hear everything in advance anyways.

mary, dumb question, but what do you do as an aquarian?

It is my birth sign. My dh says I cant stay on one topic for too long and I jump all over the place. He is used to me now but when we 1st started dating he would look at me like I was crazy. Oh and also I have read that it is best to pump right after you nurse your baby and not to pump more than 30 minutes after you nurse because it will effect you next feeding. When you 1st pump it will be this little tiny bit but more will come.Hope this helps.

I always pumped at 10am and 2pm. I also worked 5 days a week. I am not sure what I am going to do this time around. I have a different job now. With my first I had an office and could close the door. I have an electric dual pump and it only took about 15min.

Now I am at a different client every day and am not sure I am comfortable asking different people every day for a place to pump. My pump has a car adapter so I may just try to do it during lunch in my car. I have a cape I can wear so no one will see. I also have a mini van with tinted back windows. It will definetly not be as easy as last time. Also with me home two days a week I will be feeding the baby instead of pumping.
