Making the plunge to DVD

I have been doing Cathe workouts since 1999 & I am still using videos. Am the only one? I have the intensity series on video, but feel as if I am missing out by not having them on dvd. What made you finally go DVD? Is a cheap DVD player worth buyng, since if I buy the new series on dvd & try to buy the intensity series on dvd, that is all I can afford. I feel I would get better use & more variety out of my workouts if I went DVD. Why did u finally go DVD? Am I the only lone video user?

Hi there :) Well, I truly only decided to go to DVDs when the two VCRs we had started eating my tapes. I lost a couple that I wasn't too upset about, but then I lost Cardio Kicks and a few days later (in a brand new VCR!) - Body Max. I decided to go for DVDs, because, if you take care of them, they last forever. I didn't have a player, but my computer and my dad's computer both had DVD drives. I didn't need to buy a player for several months after my first DVD purchase (only cuz I needed the option to work out in EVERY room in the house, did I finally insist on one :) ). They are great, as far as I'm concerned. No rewinding, no worries about VCRs destroying the tape, if you have a laptop or if computers are around, you can do certain workouts virtually everywhere, the quality is better, and the options are truly endless. And I'd say you have just as good of a chance being happy with a cheap DVD player as you do with a more expensive one. Quality is a gamble nowadays, so I'd just go within your price range right now. I guess if you're interested in all of the pre-programming stuff, there are certain things you need that a cheap player might not have. I don't know what they are, though. Good luck on your decision, but I have a feeling you'll find a lot of support here for DVDs :).

Not alone!

I haven't made the switch yet, either. I hope that I can afford to buy the new series & a dvd player for my workout room in the very near future. I also feel like I'm missing out sometimes!

I switched over to All-DVD this past December and I've never looked back. The way Cathe's DVD's are chaptered, and the premixes that she puts on her DVD's, AND the fact that she is offering DVD's not available on VHS, to me make them so incredibly versatile. I think it's well worth the switch.

Couple of suggestions if you're inclined to make the switch:

Consider purchasing a 5-disc programmable player (Sony makes at least one great model, probably more) so that you can load in several discs and REALLY customize your workout among several discs; I think they run around $180.00 or less depending on your luck; and

If/when you purchase your DVD's that replace your vids, preview each DVD workout before getting rid of your vids to make sure there are no bugs on 'em. DVD's are a bit more ticklish than vids and can have a few more glitches; SNM's return policy is very consumer-friendly, but you don't want to be totally Cathe-less while making the exchange.

Hope this helps -

I have a cheap DVD player ($40) and it works great. I made the switch to DVD's in January. I haven't had any problems so far with any of my DVD's. I love DVD's.:)

I still and will use VHS cassettes. For the main reason that they are more durable than DVDs. You look at a DVD the wrong way it will develop skips. I love VHS cassettes. You can throw them around, keep them in a hot car and can still put in your VCR and it'll play. I don't think I am missing out on anything. There are so many Cathe tapes out there that a few workout videos will fit in with your routine. If I want to go to another part of the tape I hit fast forward. It really doesn't take that long.
