Low Carbers & Friends - September 2010

Wow, we went to Michigan and it was 40 degrees at night. Then we drive back to OH, just 7 hours south and it is 90 degrees!

the trip was nice, but exhausting. Lot of driving in a short period of time.

Rhea, I think I'm experiencing the same thing with allergies. I'm fine one minute, then think I'm getting a cold. It's off andn on.

Lita, I like the S&H. I will do it this week and next. I'm a little behind from our trip and had a long work day yesterday.

Tracy, I have a friend that moved out there and says it's wonderful. Ohio is not the most wonderful place to live, weather wise. But my family is here and so I won't be able to move until I have more flexiblity in my life later on.

Melinda - I am so glad you're liking it :D! Wow - that's quite the weather contrast !

Hmm, I'm trying out the new ipad app for the forums. Can't quite figure out how to do a reply without quoting!! oh well.

That is quite a weather contrast Melinda. Almost like our weather here lately! Yesterday in the 70s a little cool, but darn it 35 degrees last night. Actually had to turn on the heater this morning, it was just too darn cold!

Well, I've managed to have almost two full weeks off of working out (did one workout this week, but it was not pretty) Darn allergy/cold thing keeps trying to haunt me. So it has been my excuse, and I'm sticking to it! Back to the hard work next Monday, I should be all better by then. Have a great weekend everyone. Hope this post gets to where it is supposed to be.

Okay, this time I found the right button. I know that button was not there before, cause I looked!! Sort of cool to use the ipad app though. I could still browse and answer through the internet, but this is rather handy. Okay, yes, I am procrastinating at work (nothing I have to do actually) and I'm playing with my toy. Shh don't tell anyone, I even watched a movie while I worked today!!

You are such a hoot, Rhea :D!!!! I hope you get a LOT of rest this weekend and feel better soon! Sounds to me like a great reason to pamper yourself and do as little as you can - and only things you enjoy - this weekend !

Rhea, those ipads look neat! I hear the price may go down as more companies make similar products.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Hi babes! Lita, I checked with DH about the take out tax and he told me there is one in Vancouver! But not in Olympia where I live now. As far as I know anyway. I didn't ask DH about that! (And heck, I got take out in Vancouver today! I don't have the receipt to check the tax though....)

Melinda, I can't imagine a 50 degree difference in one day, WOW!!! Rhea, we had a freeze warning for the south central part of Oregon last night, I feel your pain of turning the heat on!! :(

And I am so with you babes on allergy issues! The lower left part of my mouth swelled a little 5 days ago and I went to the doctor believing I had an infection. It hurt to eat and my ears kept popping, etc. It was allergies! Man, what a weird way to manifest them! It's getting better now, whew!

Rhea, you are too funny watching a movie at work! :D I will look for the app for this forum. Trying to get here through email on my ITouch never worked well.

Got through Amy's Slo-Mo Challenge this week with minimal DOMS. Go figure!

Hope you have a great rest of your weekend babes!

Tracy - That is definitely not a good allergy symptom ! Not that any symptoms are good  - but I would go with the sinus issue over what you had, any day!!!! Wow - I'm too cheap to eat out (plus I prefer my own cooking and knowing what's in things ;) ) but I would definitely be too cheap to pay an additional take-out tax !

Well, I didn't get to play too much this weekend. Although I did shop while DH visited his dad (which really isn't that good since I spend money when I shop, but it is fun)

And even though it doesn't sound like play, I did clean out the linen closet and get more stuff out to the garage sale pile. Oh, and did some of that in the kitchen too. But no sewing or anything fun like that. Didn't even do any formal workouts, but I think that loading and unloading truckloads of firewood actually constitutes a workout.

Today is the beginning of my 90 Turbo Fire rotation. The first week is a piece of cake, which is good since I've had almost two weeks off. Okay two weeks, one workout in the middle really didn't count.

Hey Tracy, I think the apps are for both the iphone and the ipad, but I didn't pay attention. It may be for the itouch too. Funny, using this app, I have to learn to do things like, scroll up so that I read ALL the new messages. Didn't see all the others until after I posted. DUH.

Rhea - I would definitely think that counts as a workout ;)! Unless you like it more than I do, I would far rather do a "real" workout than the cleaning of the closet ordeal :p!

We get big swings like that in temps a lot here, sometime it's great, sometimes it's not. Depends on which way you want it to swing :)

Rhea, that is a good workout, I would count the wood unloading thing for sure.

We're doing more bike rides and it is fun! I decided to just do that when I felt like it. It will be cold in a month and I won't be able to do it as much. Sunday we went on a brutal trail and will not do that one again. Steep hills and big rocks. It was bumpy and a chore.

Lita, I am cheap like that too and would not pay a 10% take out tax!

Oh wow, Melinda, that trail ride sounds too hardcore for me ! I am glad you're taking advantage of the weather and just riding when you feel like it. I always feel obligated to do things that that and it takes all the fun out of it . How right you are - we get the temp swings too and they're downright nice sometimes. Other times, well... we can't have everything :p!

Hi babes! Rhea, the app should be for the ITouch too but I still haven't downloaded it. I need wi-fi for it and I have it at home already. It's easier to get on the laptop to come here, well, most of the time. :D

I definitely think carrying wood is a workout! I will be cleaning up branches on our property this weekend so I will get a little workout in doing that. And I love cleaning out closets and stuff and making things more liveable! Hey, is your new workout 90 days long? Is this a new rotation you are doing?

That's awesome you're getting bike rides in Melinda! The weather can't make up its mind here whether it wants to rain or not! I do not enjoy wet bike rides! But I'm with you on not doing super tough rides, that's not fun for me either.

As for the take-out tax, that is nothing compared to what I paid at one restaurant on our trip! (We did bring our own food for the majority of the trip.) There restaurant wasat the place we were staying on the lake so it was either that place or drive somewhere.Anyhoo, we were taxed after we put a tip on and the tax came to over 12%! 12%!! We were shocked. And never spent another dime at that place!

The allergies seem to be fine again, whew! But I agree, the symptoms were not a lot of fun. Glad I wasn't sick though! :)

OK, did my first bootcamp session today with the meetup group. They made us run/walk a whole mile! (And timed us too.) I haven't done that since I was 13! Obviously, my endurance could use some improvement!

Here's to healthy week!

Tracy - That seems totally wrong, IMHO, to tax the tip - are you sure that was the way they should have calculated it???? I don't see what right - legally or reasonably - they had to tax the tip, too ! I don't blame you for not going back! You are far braver than I am, dear friend, to do those workouts! I am challenged enough in my exercise room - I certainly wouldn't want a bunch of strangers to see me even more challenged that I already am ;) :p!

I am getting more and more into the mode of actually picking up food at grocery stores while I travel. I know, not very exciting, but it sure is getting expensive. I took my son to lunch a month ago and it was suppose to be "inexpensive". Well, drinks were close to $4 each, that is for iced tea and coke. That was the last time I will go there. I spent close to $30 for us for lunch.

My parents are in Niagra Falls now. My mom keeps sending me reports on how much the food costs. Of course, they're in Canada. IHOP breakfast was $49! Yikes!

Finished up my 2nd week of S&H. did more screenings this week, up super early, so didn't get as consistant of workouts. But I am plugging along and think next week will be better.

Melinda - I hope things soon slow down for you! Wow - I would have a cow spending that kind of money ! I am sure I would be horrified at restaurant costs now - I thought they were bad the last time I ate out and that was over 11 years ago :p!

Hi babes! I did get the Cathe forums app for my ITouch but I will likely use it only when I'm away from the laptop. My typing is way too slow on the ITouch! :D

I do think taxing the tip was wrong but I didn't feel like fighting it. One night on our trip, we did go to the grocery store for dinner. I even got items for breakfast the following morning and the total came to $18 for the 2 of us. It definitely saves you money! I do enjoy eating out and DH and I are big on happy hour menus. They are inexpensive, and you don't overeat. I'd blow a gasket if IHOP cost me $49!!!

I hope things slow down for you too Melinda! This week has been crazy busy at work for me and I'm really hoping for a break tomorrow. I gotta come down from the adrenaline rush!

Bootcamp session number 2 today. Circuits of 7 exercises, repeated 5 times, then a run/walk for half a mile. Lita, I did better than anyone else so don't think you wouldn't do well!! Most, if not all, of the people in the group have not worked out consistently, or as hard as we do. I mean, it doesn't get any harder than Cathe! We also have newbies which I feel shouldn't be there at all. One of them felt nauseated today and had to take breaks and walk alot. Trust me, this isn't a group of elite athletes. If it was, I wouldn't be there. :D

I was told today that they will be weighing me again on Tuesday. Crap! I told 2 of the women that I like to slack on the weekends and they responded, "So do we." Ah, misery loves company!

Later babes!

You are kind, Tracy, but w/ all the bone & joint issues I have, this ole dog ain't what she used to be ;).

Have a good weekend guys - I FINALLY get a bit of vacation so I'll see you all the 28th .

I know all about that expensive take out food while on the road, it is horrendous. With going to Reno every week, I've taken to packing lunches so at least one of the meals is healthy and we don't have to pick from the lesser of the evils on any restaurant/fast foods.

I was good this week with the workouts and even added on some steady state stuff on the smaller dvd workout days. I think I pushed it a little yesterday with a jog/walk for four miles after doing the Fire 30 class, my hips are very tight today. I can't wait until the dvd today when I can loosen everything up!

Have a great weekend everyone.
