Low Carbers & Friends - May

Lita - I actually ended up doing Staying Power. I popped in Shape up and realized that it was the one I had already done this week. Staying Power was pretty fun. I felt a little uncoordinated trying to pass that big ole select tech weight around (so mch that I went and bought some regular five lb weights for the interval type workouts)

Today was the first day of the BFFM contest. I've done my usual Monday am walk and then did an interval training at lunch. I'm going to sit down tonight and get a rotation down. I'm thinking of alternating an STS and a Chalene.....oop gotta go.....be back later.

Hi babes! Melinda, I would like to see the suggested schedule also, if it doesn't take too much time for you to post it! I am with you on the weight work, with light cardio and abs in the summer. As Lita said, we can add or modify things if we need to but I would love a new challenge! Good luck on the 1RM tests, I haven't been motivated to do them again myself!

I can't really tell if slow and heavy weight work hits me harder than other weight workouts--am I not paying enough attention? It seems after STS that I am stronger, but then I'll do another Cathe workout and will get DOMS. I don't get it! Help, help!

We still have winter here--poured buckets of rain yesterday and all of us here are quite tired of being soggy! Lita, your wild weather would confuse me terribly! :p

Rhea, I'm pulling for you on your BFFM challenge!!!!

I decided to do 4DS this week. I hadn't done it since September, and it's one of my favorites!

Have an awesome week babes!

Rhea - I'll bet your glad to finally get it underway :D! Congrats on day 1 - and best of luck on day 2 ;). Keep us posted on how it's going - you know we're here to cheer you on! Hope you get to come back and chat more today!

Tracy - I think to actually realize a significant strength increase, you'd have to do the same type/style workout for 6 - 8 weeks. You'd probably see a small increase in two or three weeks, but I think serious strength building takes a long-term focus. Course, I could be totally wrong, too :p! As for the other workouts - I think you nailed it when you told me you thought it was hormone related ;). The other week, GS Legs fried me so I could hardly walk for days. This time, I don't even have DOMS. (I took a break in between the two so it's not that I've not adapted to it.) Go figure. Additionally, I think - again, my opinion only - any time you go from one style to another, you're tempting fate to bring on the DOMS. I thought of doing 4DS myself - but the indoor cardio just hurts too much ...

Good afternoon. Still working on my rotation, but I think I've decided that another round of STS is going to do the main trick for the weight portion of the rotation. I still want to do some of my interval type workouts, so I might take a bit longer than a week to do each STS week. (did that make sense?) Anyhoo, now all I have to do is get it written down.

Okay, back to work.

Of course it made sense, Rhea :D! But you'd better get it all written out before you forget how it went :p ;) :p!

OH my I did Volume 1, Body Sculpting Basics with Ms. Harris today. LOL LOL! I forgot how fast those reps go. But it is still fun to do every once in a while. The dvd is chaptered pretty nice, separates the stand up stuff with the floor and the warm -up and stretch. So you could use them as add ons. Her stretches are always good.

Wow, Rhea - you rock! I'm sure glad you were up for Susan today :D!

Melinda - Thanks for the rotation! Do you do the same exercises over and over for the entire 6 weeks? Have you done any kind of version of this yet?

I am gone until Tuesday, gang. Hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday weekend!

Lita, I think you can vary the exercises. You can use the outline for the areas to hit and do the exercise that's good for you. I haven't tried it yet, but was thinking about it. I am going on vacation soon, so wouldn't start anything until after that.

So I'm thinking of going back to school to become a nurse. It will take me 3.1/2 yrs. Work is so busy, but I feel like I can't make any increases in income with this job. If I'm an RN there will be many more options for me. i am interested in wellness, not working in a hospital. But once again, there are many places looking for nurses to do this. So I signed up to take a class this summer and I will take it one step at a time. I am a bit wishy washy but that is because I feel I have to work with my husband still not having full time work. I couldn't actually start the nursing school until fall 2011, so this would give me time to prepare and he should be working again by then!

Hi babes! Hope everyone is having a nice long weekend! Thanks for starting the June thread Lita, I haven't posted there yet. :D Weekend has been pretty relaxing since it's raining. UG! We are soooooooo sick of the rain here in the NW this year!!! 10 degrees colder than normal.

Rhea, I think about doing Vol. 1 every now and then but I don't even know where it is. And I have it on vhs! Good going on getting through that one!

Melinda, you've talked about going back to school for nursing before, I remember! :) And you were going back and forth about it then too. So, I juat wanna ask you a couple of questions. I hope that's OK! If DH was working full time now, would you still be thinking of going back to school? Do you like your job enough now that you would be happy staying there if he was working fulltime? I just want to make sure that you aren't thinking of going back to school based alot on the earning potential. I only say that because I know too many people who change jobs or go into a career for the money they will make and those people are never happy.

I do think it's a great idea to do it slowly, and I really hope it's something you will love! DH and I have both thought of going back to school to further our careers but we found it wasn't going to do a whole lot for us in the long run so we aren't doing it. As it is, I picked a career that really has no career advancement potential but since working for the state, there are so many more opportunities for growth than I ever had at a private law firm so I consider myself really lucky.

OK, enough of my hot air! I finished up 4DS split last week and after HIS, I saw I wrote a little post-it on the dvd cover that said I should add weighted gloves to all of the weight work after the cardio. Crap! Why do I do things like that to myself?!?

Tracy, I don't know how to answer that question, since I've been in this situation so long. I am just sick of making the money I do and then there are people coming in that I am training that are RNs that have less experience and are given more money and opportunities. So that is what I'm basing it on. I want the same opportunities. I did the whole math thing too, wandering if it was worth it or not. I will be working full time and have 4 classes to take before I can start the nursing school. So I can ease into it and if my mind changes, then I can back out. The earliest for the nursing school to start would be Sept 2011. DH should have a job by then and I will see how I feel. I can take the classes at the community college and the total cost would run me $7000, so that's not too bad. Of course, at some point I'd have to go back to part time during the really busy schooling. for now I am signed up to take a chemistry class. We shall see!
