Low Carbers & Friends - January

Hi babes! Lita, I'm afraid I didn't take your advice. Today I managed to miss the place I was supposed to set my barbell down after bench pressing (just on one side of course) and had to call for help. Good thing DH was home! :D

What an incredible deal you got on your door Rhea!!! Great job! I don't think I'm going to have that kind of luck when I need to get a front door!

I cracked up at the outfit changes in Cathe's first video, (just that they had them) and the thongs of course! I never wore them, was into sweats and t-shirts when I first started working out. Then I got spoiled! I was able to get Nike stuff half off at the employee store and I've been hooked on good outfits ever since. The only problem is they so go out of style and even if there isn't a thing wrong with my outfits, I don't wanna wear them anymore after a while!

OK, I did HIIT 40/20 today. And I had to admit something to myself that I didn't want to--I don't really like this style of cardio. I hate to say I don't like something Cathe has produced, but the HIIT dvd isn't really my thing. I'll still do the Pyramid one but after that, it will likely get put on the shelf o' dust along with, yes, CCC. Continuous jumping and choreography that sends my HR through the roof isn't fun for me. And modifying doesn't make me like it any better! Gimme kickboxing or a floor routine or a step routine any day and I'm happy. Sorry for whining ladies, but I knew I could confide in you and you won't say I'm a wimp. :D

Have a fit week babes!

Tracy - OMW, I'm so glad DH was home ! Silly girl! That is the good thing about wearing shorts & tank tops - no replacement needed when styles change :p. As for Hiit, I don't actually like it either so you're not alone :). The only reason I do it is because I CAN modify it and still get a good workout in (that's more steady state than Hiit) and because there are so many kinds of cardio I CAN'T do anymore. KB is very hard - I can only do it without kicks & knee lifts & etc - which pretty much eliminates everything but upper body . I am very limited on how much step I can do because that's really hard on the hips too. Anyway... the point is that we will only do what we like (or can at least tolerate ;) ) and while I know how disloyal it feels to not like something Cathe has done, no one - not even Cathe - can bat a thousand, ya know ;)?

Hello - just a quick post before the electricity goes out again.

Been keeping up with the workouts. Did Disc 19 and Step moves yesterday. Disc 20 today.

Probably will be sore tomorrow. Have a great evening!

Hi babes!

Me thinks Rhea is suffering from El Nino! Recently, it has left us alone up here for the most part. Lots of tree branches around but no wind and very little rain. Liking the warmer temps for sure! We flew back from CA to Portland Sunday night though and on the desent, the turbulence was so bad that I threw up 3 times!

Thanks for understanding Lita! I think if we can find what works for us--no matter who or what it is--we're lucky. :)

No workouts the last 2 days. Need to make up some workouts darn it!

Tracy - Exactly - it's whatever works :D! Thank God we're all different and one size doesn't fit all ;). Man oh day - that must have been some turbulence !!!!!!!

Rhea - Glad you could check in! What a pain to keep losing your power :(!

Tracy - eew... that must have been nasty turbulence.

Oh, I am very sore today. I think I will try and go do MMA of some sort so I can workout out the lactic acid in my bum. Sitting is sure not helping!lol

Have a great rest of the day. Electricity only went off twice so far today.

Wow, Rhea, you're on a roll now ;)! Hope you got that bum exercised before the power went out :p! Let us know which MMA you did and what you thought, 'kay :)?

Nope, no workout before the electricity went poof. Just about 30 minutes after I walked through the door, the electricity went out until about 1:00 in the morning. So I got to play Nintendo DS most of the evening, it was the only thing I could see well! I can only read so much under the little book lights and candle light. Got a good night sleep because of it.

WEll, off to do Disc #21. I'll try and do one of the MMA's this weekend. Have a great weekend and stay warm. At least at this time of year, the snow tends to melt faster.

Sleep is important too, Rhea ;)! I hope you have a great weekend down there in (hopefully) sunny CA :D!

Lita - I did do a little of the Kick Boxing one yesterday, the warm up and the first combo...it was fun, fun, fun. Now I only did part of it, so it might not be so fun when I get real tired, but I did do it after doing Disc #22, so I wasn't fresh.

Thanks, Rhea :D! I really need to try that one but I'm worried it's going to be a lot of kicking that I won't be able to do :(. That gets pretty frustrating after a while ....

Actually, there did not seem to be a lot of kicking, but there is some at the end of each combo, sort of like...KPC.

Well, I broke my first rule and started previewing MMA: KB this morning - boy do I wish I hadn't ! Now I feel overwhelmed by the fast-paced combos and dread even trying the workout :(....

So I think I'll put it on the back burner for now and hopefully I'll get over the dread factor . In the meantime, my hip flexors are telling me Hiit 40/20 followed by plyo legs today was more than enough impact so I think I'll stick to MMA: Boxing tomorrow ;).

Hi babes! Rhea, I think we're on the same pace with STS, I just did disc 22 today. :)

And I dunno what's going on with me. The 2nd week of meso 2 killed my legs and butt but I had no DOMS the 3rd week. The 2nd week of meso 2 didn't bother my biceps at all but this past week gave me bad DOMS! Goodness!

I was going to try the HIIT Pyramid workout today but didn't have it in me. I will likely not do it until I start meso 3. Instead, I did LIS cardio today before STS and really enjoyed it. I'm saving all of the MMAs to do on my rest week next week--I can't wait!

Lita, previewing can freak me out sometimes too. I often find that watching something and not moving with it makes things look harder than they turn out to be. I don't know how many times I've made notes to take things down a notch when previewing but when I do it for the first time, I actally need to rev things up a bit. But I'm still anal preview girl so I will continue to freak myself out. :p

Hope you have a great week babes! I hope Rhea has continuous power, Lita has sun and higher temps and I hope Melinda can stop by too!

Hi Tracy - so glad you could pop in :D! I have found that my DOMS is always in my chest & triceps. Every now and again in my legs - but they usually feel wore out, not sore :p. I have yet to get it in my back, shoulders or biceps... But that's okay since I rarely get DOMS on those.

Hmm - I must be the only one who actually rests on the rest week, huh ? I do walks when I can but no way no how do I do cardio or weights. That break is so refreshing and believe me, I have no problem filling that teensy hour every day .

Rhea - I did decide to do MMA: KB today rather than letting the dread build up in my mind. So here's my review:

Combo 1 - LOVED IT :D! It flowed well, was easy to learn and you could just get into it.
Combo 2 - Has a bit of a learning curve, but I think I'll really like it too once I get it down ;).
Combo 3 - HATE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish she would've stuck with the simple moves to keep the flow going rather than slow things down and get dance-y.

Drills - thank God they are all short because you do a lot of hopping around on the support leg! They seemed to last forever.... And I just don't know how they can hop in one spot when I end up all over the place!

Abs - Enjoyable and different other than the last move which I didn't do. I figured extra stretching filled in perfectly fine there.

Stretch - I'm used to her stretches in STS getting short shrift so I didn't go along with this one and went free-style instead. However, it seemed really long and like it would be a good one if I hadn't been in a snit over combo 3 and just wanting to quit for the day :p....

Lita - glad that you tried it out. I really liked Combo #1 too; I previewed two and three and thought that three would be a bit tricky. All that knee turning stuff, I just get confused.

Did Disc 22? yesterday. I keep forgetting which one...Meso #2, week 4, first workout. I was going to add on some cardio, but decided to fix dinner and watch Desparate Housewives instead. DH got me hooked on that show darn it. Cracks me up!

Today should be the MMA KB. I'm looking forward to a nice sweaty workout.:D

Exactly, Rhea! I was really in a snit and beyond bummed that she ruined it with that combo when things were going so well with the basic jabs and kicks in the first two . Oh well...enough whining . Let me know how it goes for you this afternoon!!!! Hopefully you will really enjoy the whole thing :)!!

Shouldn't Melinda be back by now from wherever she went :(? I hope she's okay!! I'm getting worried .... And what about Reese?

Lita - I just finished it! I actually had fun with it, even the last combo. It was not too bad, and it was short. I think once I have the two round house kicks down on my bad side, it will be okay. (I'm not so 'ordinated on the left lead! the right foot keeps wanting to get in the way!)

The core work was pretty good too, except that last push up plank kick thing which I really just watched and the pretended to do some sort of plank twist. My shoulder can't take all that right now...even though it is getting better. Some exercises just tighten it right up, well, that's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it.

Hi babes! I think I've been sore in every possible area at one time or another from STS Lita! :p I'm glad you are only getting it at a minimum!

I do cardio only on my rest weeks, no weight work whatsoever. The first time I did STS, I did nothing on my first rest week and paid for it with horrible DOMS the following week!

Thanks for the review on KB! I have been warned now!

Rhea, your STS says disc 22 now and I'm sure it said disc 21 yesterday. :) Cracks me up that DH got you hooked on that show! I used to watch it and really enjoyed it.

Did disc 23 today. My darn schedule lately is allowing only 3 workouts a week and I am just not motivated to add a 4th day for cardio only on the weekends. I blame it on the winter blahs!

I'm sure Melinda will be back soon and Reece pops in now and then when she can find our thread among the many!
