Low Carbers & Friends - April 2011

Oh Rhea - I want the kitchen!!!!!!!! You lucky gal :D! Of course, you deserve all this and more to make up for your crappy boss and the stuff DH has to go through !

I can't wait to cook in it! All that stress will just slip away!! Oh, wait, that's because of the bathtub, fireplace and wine........I actually sat in the tub and stared at the fireplace. I can't wait for that either!

You are too funny, Rhea :D! I'm glad you're already getting enjoyment from that tub ! But I bet the kitchen will be a ton of fun, too. Just think - you can always make a nice, relaxing snack to go with that wine and soak ;)!

I'm in my 3rd week of STS. Only going to do this one time through!

The test was hard, don't know what I got on it. Probably find out this next Sat.

Rhea, I love the pictures! Keep posting them!

I'm tired, not sleeping very well, just a lot going on. My oldest son has a job interview tomorrow, I'm really hoping he gets this. It's a help desk, big step up from selling tvs at Best Buy. He's really good with computer stuff, but doesn't have an education. I'm hoping he will get this job and be able to see possiblities for his future, maybe be inspired to new ideas for work.

Tracy, I've never seen Amy Bento before. Sounds like some good workouts.

Lita, what's the weather like out there. We have 60s and lots of rain. Lots of buds on the fruit trees. We have a pear, apple and cherry tree. The apple and cherry trees are small, the pear tree is medium sized, just loaded with blossoms.

Glad to see you, Melinda :D! I'm sure you did just fine on that test :). My fingers are crossed for your son's interview!!!! I hope you soon get to unwind a bit, though. Things sound way too hectic back there! Our weather is spring-like for us. We had snow yesterday - it just accumulated on vehicles and the grass for the most part - and it got to the low 20s last night. But today is to be in the upper 40s and sunny. And so we'll bounce until suddenly summer is here .

Weather sounds like our neck of the woods. Snow, rain, whatever in the spring and then suddenly summer and hot.

Yup, that's it, Rhea! Life in the mountains, huh ;)? Does your new town get as much snow as your old one did? Are you closer to skiing there? What about your job? And hey - while I'm playing twenty questions :p - how goes the ordeal with DH????

Well, new area is actually in the snow belt. So more snow, less hot in summer though. A bit higher elevation too. Shoot, can't remember the other questions and I can't look on my ipad forum, darn it.

Oh DH, well, he is on medical leave and they actually had the balls to tell him he doesn't have to come back at all, but he will get paid for the rest of his contract. (he has worked his entire contract) However, we are insisting that a letter stating that the charges are unfounded is written and given to him. (Board didn't believe the allegations, but they also hadn't finished the investigation.) Allegations were ludicrous and some of the statements about past stuff were out right lies (from one of the alleged witnesses) So I'm not worried about the allegations anymore, just the normal small town rumours which keep popping up. I don't want them to follow him back to his teaching job. I'm actually a bit tired of society right now.

Okay, other questions. No closer to skiing, in fact a bit farther away. I'll be commuting to work, so will DH. It is only 30 miles to the new house. Right now I'm spoiled and only travel about 5 to work. Ill have to learn to get up earlier...ugh...and probably get the workout done in the am too...double ugh.

Rhea - I am so sorry you and DH had to deal with such idiocy ! Small town talk can be brutal, for sure . I take it this wasn't his normal teaching job? As for society - between this mess you just went through and the everyday stuff you deal with in your job, you definitely do not see the best society has to offer, for sure :(!

Oh boy - up even earlier ??? AND morning workouts ???? You have a long row to hoe ahead of ya, girl ;). I know you can do it, though . It's just a matter or retraining yourself....

Well, maybe if you're in the snow belt, you can snow shoe or cross country or something right where you're at and not even have to travel to the ski resorts ;).

Hi babes! I'm sorry you have been so stressed Melinda!! :( I'm sure you did well on your test, you always do! What is the class you are taking? I also hope DS gets that new job!!!

Rhea, I want to cook in your kitchen too! And I don't cook alot! Your house is just beautiful. The longer commute will be worth it to come home to your sanctuary! I'm liking what I believe is your wine cooler too! And I'm with Lita, I do not blame you at all for being tired of society--you certainly haven't seen the best of it lately.

DH and I have decided to do our own floors too--not the carpeting but the hard wood floors, as well as more stuff. I think we will have the company do everything through to the sheetrock. Then we'll take it from there and get what we want, hopefully!

Lita, we are still in the 50s here during the day. We hit the freezing mark the past few mornings too. This is unusual for us and I hope it doesn't happen again! :p Have tried to get workouts in when I can. Today was a walk/run with BB and then some upper body exercises I did for a minute each. I'm hoping to get a dvd done tomorrow. Which one though, I haven't a clue!

I want to get here more often, but often I can't but I do think of you all! Have a good rest of your week fit babes!

Tracy - So glad to see you :D!!!!! No worries - we think of you too when you're not here ! Hey, maybe Rhea will come do some consulting for you or give you lessons since she has so much experience in this stuff :p ;)! Enjoy that nicer weather! We're to be 55 and sunny today - in the 30s and snow tomorrow - but that's pretty normal for us .

Rhea, the older I get, I now know the real reason people want to retire... to get out of the rat race of society. At least that's what we are thinking!

Another tired day here, I'm so tired of being tired! It's actually exhaustion from lack of sleep. I log plenty of hours in bed (awake).

UGH!

(((Melinda!!!))) Exhaustion is NOT good :(! Just think, Melinda, you're getting ready to not only launch yourself into more of the rat race but you're going to do it in a profession that doesn't get people who are in the best of moods as it is :p ;)!

I hope everyone had a nice Easter. I actually felt peace and very relaxed.

Lita, yes, I know this profession is stressful. I plan on going the wellness route with it, though, at least at this point I don't see myself in a hospital.

I'm taking pathophysiology and we are on the cardiac chapter. This class is hard, but the material is facinating as to the processes of disease in the body. I'm learning quite a bit and do enjoy that part.

Beginning week 4 of STS. OK, so now I'm feeling stiff again, I forgot about that part of STS that I didn't like. Will only be doing this one time through and doing other things.

Forgot to tell you guys....I'm on VACATION!!!! whoo hoo (well, at least I'm not at work!) I'll be "gone" for two WHOLE weeks. Tomorrow is paint and caulk day at my house. Oh, I have such exciting vacations. lol!!:rolleyes:

Hi babes! I'm tired too Melinda, I have nights where I can't sleep either. It always happens according to my #@&^*! cycle which is now a little erratic. I sleep a little better now that we have puppy just 'cause I'm worn out! Have you tried any OTC sleep aids? I am fascinated with disease as well, I watch medical shows about it. Too chicken to actually study it though! :)

Lita, you say such sweet things! I think we're having weather like yours! 70 degrees on Sat. rain and wind Sunday and today, high of 55 I think. Come on summer!! (I never said that when I lived in CA!)

For some reason, I have wanted to push myself on the workouts. Go figger! It may have something to do with the women at work who flake on our 10:00 torment. I'm trying to set a good example! Drill Max last Thurs., and HSTA today. I usually avoid those 2!

Am looking forward to seeing Cathe's descriptions of her new workouts to see what they entail and how many of them she's making. The presale starts May 1.

Have a good, restful week babes!

Hi guys,

Rhea, a vacation away from the normal office stuff is great. This is a mental vacation for you!

We have 70 degrees today. I've been inside, but worn shorts. It seems steamy with all the rain, so I've felt warm.

OK, so this is how you get clogged arteries...

You get an injury in your artery, they're not exactly sure, could be from high BP, stress or an infection or inflammation. That injury attracts white blood cells that go to the area, called macrophages. They eat LDL cholesterol that has formed fatty streaks from the injury. The macrophages eat so much LDL that they become foam cells, which are basically cells filled with liquid fat. The smooth muscle cells in the arteries form over this injured portion to make it smooth, but this makes the whole opening of the artery smaller. It can get bigger and bigger, with the inside of the plaque getting hard. That can either breaks off and then completely clogged the artery down stream, or a blood clot can get caught on the narrow opening. Then you have a heart attack.

Melinda - Hope you've been able to get some rest :)!

Rhea - Bet you're working hard on that vacation !

Tracy - Wahoo on that energy surge :D!

Okay - I won't be around this weekend and things are crazy here at work, so here is the May thread. See you all there at some point!
