Low Carbers and Friends - Sept & Oct 2013

I get that honor too...and if I didn't decorate, we be a total bunch of bah humbugs every year. Actually one year I wasn't in the mood to decorate, so the tree got put up with just some of that white fuzzy stuff on it....that's all, nothing else. It was actuallly sort of funny. looked like a ghost.

Maybe it looked like a snow covered tree and you just envisioned a ghost for your favorite holiday ;)!

Too funny :D!

Speaking of snow, it's flurrying here today  and the surrounding mountains all got their first dose of the season. I might be wearing my parka to mow tomorrow  :p!

Rhea - Well, you're a couple days late for the last occurrence - and one day early for tomorrow's storm :p! Supposed to get 3 - 7" here in the foothills - which is much better than the 18" the mountains are to get ;). Could be an interesting winter !

Yep, I've heard anything from cold and wet to just cold and dry. I'm not sure which is worse, but the word "cold" seems to be in everyone's forecast. Whee.

BTW, you were smart in not getting the new workouts. Lots of choreography, fun, but even I had to stand and watch and then trip over my feet.

Rhea - Thanks for letting me know that ! When it comes to step, I'm especially leery - I trip enough on the floor as it is  - but I blame it on the carpet :p. We did end up with 8 - 12" depending on where you stand in my yard. Had to shovel (and boy was it heavy with a good inch or two of water underneath !) and shake my trees and lilacs. They're still awfully droopy but tomorrow is to be sunny and close to 50 so they'll be much better in a day or two.

Alright Tracy - where is your report on the workouts? I've been waiting! lol Actually, I'm going to do the October rotation, looks like fun. And so far it will fit into my schedule. Of course, I will "substitute" when needed, i.e., no way in heck am I doing step at 4 am!

Hi babes! I'm sorry I've been MIA! I was out of town last weekend and this past weekend was catch up and clean up. We still have boxes to go through and we got on a roll!

Anyhoo, we got over 9 inches of rain in Sept. which broke a record. I'd be OK with warm and wet but you didn't say that was an option, did you Rhea? I cracked up about your ghost Christmas tree. :D

Lita, I am sorry you got snow! We warmed up this past weekend and had a lot of sun so I hope you get that!

As for the new workouts, I've only done one of them so far! Rockout Knockout and if you liked Hard Strikes in X-Train, you'll like this one too. There's no step involved, and no weights either. It's 55 minutes total and starts with cardio. Then a segment that focusses on arm work, then combo drills after that. I liked it and it didn't kill me dead so that's a good thing! Could I live without owning it? Yes, I could.

I'm planning to preview (yes preview 'cause it uses weights) the Great Glutes dvd tonight and do it tomorrow. Will hopefully get a report to you soon about it! The Step dvds won't be done right away because most of my workouts are during my lunch hour and I don't have a step there. And I'm usually bombarded by a dog who wants to go for a run when I get home!

I'll check out the rotation this month and see how I can do it, if I wanna! :p

Tracy - Great to "see" you ! I didn't mind the snow - it was all mostly gone by Sat afternoon :). For a snowstorm, couldn't beat it. Enough to make it worth getting the shovel out but melting quick enough I didn't have to clean my car off or the area around my car :D. (If I drove to work - that would've been a different story ;)!)

9" of rain ???? That's like the total of our YEARLY precipitation !!!

Another storm is supposed to be here this mid-week with plenty of that cold stuff in the above 6,000 feet. Hope it stays there. But it is interesting that we are already getting the track of storms coming through.

With the workouts, I was supposed to do Knockout last night, but I didn't get out of court until 5:30 which meant not home until almost 6:30, ate pizza for dinner...yum, but yuck....and then didn't sleep well last night either. So this morning's bis and tris went capoot. At least I got my 10,000 steps in yesterday...one accomplishment done. I'll try and see if I can squeeze in both workouts this evening....fingers crossed.

Hi babes! Lita, the snowstorm you had is the kind I like too! So far, October has been a bit kinder to us than September. I'm enjoying the Fall colors more often than I'm dodging raindrops! :D

I've done both Great Glutes and Leaner Legs and Abs. GG is 55 minutes and it burns! My hamstrings and glutes felt it the next day. Only one size of weights is used so that was refreshing! There were a couple of times where my legs were shaking but it's definitely do-able and I don't have a dread factor with it. I skipped the pizza presses and added the chair bonus and still came in under an hour. (Gliding discs are used too.) I gave my legs a full day of rest before working them again with the next one. LLA, which is supposed to be the companion to GG, is even shorter, at 48 minutes. And excluding the warm up and cool-down, the legs and abs are worked just 36 minutes! Both body parts were worked with some new moves and I was glad I wasn't sore the next day. This one too only uses one size of weights. There is a bonus barre section I didn't do that is about 13 minutes long. No dread factor with this one like I have with Gym Style or B&G. And I dread those because of the standing and floor work done. I usually do just the standing work in each of those. I sorta wonder if Cathe is getting kinder to us in our youth!

Rhea, hope you're not working too hard! Please report on any workouts you've done when you can. :)

Have a great weekend babes!

Well, it took me 15 min to catch up on all the postings. It's been a month since my last post. Things have been hectic. I switched from doing STS to XT series again, so that's what I've been working on.

Pleas keep posting reviews on the new series. If I buy any, it will just be individual dvds.

So yesterday, Sun the 20th, was my last day of clinical! I've had Sat/Sun clinicals for the past 2 months and working during the week, so been exhausted. I have today off and will study for a test that is tomorrow. The end is coming near, with graduating Dec 6.

Lita, I can't believe you have had snow already. We've had decent weather. It is getting cooler, but not freezing yet. I'd be ok with little or no snow this winter.

Tracy, I'm glad to hear the workouts are under an hour. If/when i get any, they will probably be the weight workouts. I think I'm good with the cardio stuff I have.

Rhea, you can get the tree and decorate it with the snow and that should cover you from Halloween through Christmas. I like the eyes you put on it!

Talk to you all soon.

Tracy - I am hoping this is a kinder, gentler Cathe we've seen lately, too ;). Keep those reviews coming! I doubt I get any but - you just never know :p!

Melinda - Congrats on finishing clinical !!! I bet you'll be so very glad when this whole thing is over! You've done an awesome job balancing school, work and life - kudos to you :D!!!

Rhea - Step away from the Halloween candy and come chat with us ;) :p! We miss you!

Hi babes! I'm so happy for you that the end is near Melinda!!! Congratulations!!!!!!! :D:D:D

I haven't been here because I've been in de-clutter mode! DH and I brought everything we had in storage and the apt. when we moved here and have gone through things slowly. Then my dad sent us some cabinet/bookcases and we really went to town going through things! Then I had to deal with stuff that was just put wherever until we had more time. Well, I had to make the time 'cause we're having our housewarming party this Sat!

Let's see. I should mention that both GG and LLA have a cardio element to them, it's not straight weight work. Last week I did Flex Train and I see it as a circuit workout even though there's no cardio section. I will post more after I do it again because I have already forgotten most of it. I've previewed X10 and those are the shorter cardio workouts, all under 30 min. I take back what I said about Cathe being nice--these look tough! Only one of the 5 uses a step and all but Cardio Blast does weight work for a specific body part. I'm going to give some of them a try next week. I also hope to do Party Rockin' Step 1 this weekend if I can fit it in. :)

Our Oct has been pretty awesome! No rain for over 2 weeks straight but lots of fog. We're probably socked in more than the sun appears but I'm OK with that. Makes things much easier when you don't have to worry about carrying an umbrella all the time. :D

Take care fit babes!

Wow, I've been remiss in the posting again! Bad girl...I keep forgetting that my "notification" is not notifying me. So i have to remember to check for posts. Yep, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! LOL

I haven't worked out for a week! I've been getting my 10,000 steps in most days...so lots of walking. But, just haven't been motivated to workout. DH was sick Tues/Weds, so I made sure I got plenty of sleep and water so I would not get anything. I've muddled through so far.

I'm getting the itch to do a workout though...I think I might try the Knockout Rockout tonight. I've done the Lean Legs and liked that one. I was sore after. Next week I'll be tackling the early morning workouts again. But I'm still going to put a yoga between each workout. My body loves that nice quite stretch.

Well, talk to you later! Melinda - hang in there....there's a light shining at the end of that tunnel!

Lita - still warm here, but colder weather next week. Oh boy, that snow will get here sooner or later.

Tracy - is that fog gone yet?
