Low Carbers and Friends - June - August 2013

Okay, can't complain here about the weather Been nice. Been on vacation too. Hehe. And real,y no lists. Sorry bout typos. Typing while on treadclimber. I'll be back later when I can type better.

Hi babes!

Rhea, you are hysterical!! :D You multi-tasker you! Hey, wait a minute! Whaddya doing working out on vacation? We've all been talking here about taking it easier on ourselves! :p

I did enjoy my 4th and got to stay away from work for awhile and that helped my attitude quite a bit. :)

We've been in the 70s this week and we're much cooler today, 65 for a high I think. I'll try to send it your way Lita! I'm happiest in the mid to low 70s myself.

Haven't noticed vegetation too much here, probably because we have so much of it always! We got buckets of rain here right when Summer started!

I'm a little concerned about doing XT for another 3 months but with the addition of LI, I hope I don't get too conditioned to it. I can tell I'm used to XT because I did High Reps at home last week and holy moly, my booty hurt alot after that one! But on the otherhand, I was so proud of myself today when I did the entire sit up/push up combo at the end of Supercuts! The pushups were a little shallow, but still, I kept up. Yippee! I stopped even trying the first time I did it.

Have an awesome cool weekend Lita and I hope you get a good bike ride in Melinda! And enjoy your vacation Rhea!!

Rhea - My word, girl, you can't just kick back and relax, can you ? You say "no lists" yet you're treadmilling and working your computer at the same time .....

Tracy - FWIW concerning the adaptation to the XT workouts, I was still working hard on XT during the second rotation, especially on the Burn Set workouts. Granted, I increased my weights on everything over the length of the rotations, but by the end of the second rotation, I was struggling to keep up so I was dubious as to having gotten any benefit from it. However, I think I actually did gain some strength using the XT upper workouts - unless I was just being super-human last week when I went back to S&H ;). And I even went up on those weights too . Now I just hope it doesn't kick my bootie tomorrow :D. (And I'll take all the cool you want to share, GF!)

Tracy - BTW - if you were able to do that last set and keep up with Cathe (and I know you do big-girl pushups) then I am super impressed and proud of you, too :D  :D ! I have to get a running start on that set (by starting the 2 previous exercises early by ignoring the chatter). And of course, I only do little girl pushups  ....

Hi babes!! We're quiet on the ol' forum here! I hope that means you are enjoying your Summer!

Thank you for your kind words Lita!! You are so good for my ego! :D I hope S&H didn't kick your booty as you feared! I've noticed that my strength ebs and flows throughout a rotation. I blame it on hormone flucuations because I can't figure out what else it could be. :p

I've decided to take a break from XT for a month before jumping into the XT/LI rotation, just to do some of the ones I miss and determine if I did get a bit conditioned to XT. I'm finally on the last week of it!

Other than that, things have been a bit busy. Had my yard sale and cleared $140 which I can't complain about at all! It was a lot of work and I still have lots of stuff but I made more than if I took all of it to Goodwill to begin with. :) DH and I are kinda slacking on the house stuff (we need blinds and a couch and some other stuff) and enjoying the Summer instead. We're not even thinking about the massive yard work we need to do NEXT Summer either!

Hope everyone is doing well!!!

Tracy - So glad to see you :D! It's been pretty lonely here :(.... I think you're wise to take a week off in between the rotations. I think I did too but that's far too long ago to remember :p! Good idea to worry about next year's yard work - it will get here soon enough ;). Glad you're energetic enough to do the yard sale - I have always given it away rather than mess with the hassle ....

S&H is still going well, but I'm doing an XT-style rotation. S&H weeks 1 & 3, 4DS weights weeks 2 & 4 with a circuit thrown in. Don't know how long I'll do that - may swap out GS & something else for the next 4 weeks. We shall see.

Melinda and Rhea - You ladies having a good summer :)?

Yep, I've been MIA since I was on staycation....which ended up in working most of the time? How does that happen? Darn yard....but heck, we now have grass, a little too much since we ordered too much. Oh well, now even more of the yard is done. What will we do when there is nothing left to install? Won't be much maintenance either....lol

Oh, I also built a little water feature on my patio while home. I have another couple days off next week and will be by myself. Yippee.....I was going to go with DH to Monterey (he has a golf tournament) but he decided to golf on Sun and wed too. Tournament is only Mon Tue. Couldn't be gone that long with darn dogs and what the heck would I do while he was golfing? shop? Probably, but then I'm just spending moulah I don't need to spend. I can stay home, get the house clean the way I want it clean, get caught up on my bill paying/filing crap and sew! So there you go! I'm at home and somehow will manage to get it all done, right? Oh, and get some good workouts in too....

Rhea - I think the time alone sounds like heaven ! But that's probably because I never get any ;). Knowing you, you will be a non-stop whirling dervish that will get all those things done and more :p!

Hi Everyone,

We went on vacation to the Upper Pennisula of MI a couple weeks ago. Last week was trying to catch up. Mon we went to the state fair. I have been busy just doing stuff around here. School starts Aug 21. Some how, even though I have hardly worked and didn't have school this summer, I have been busy pretty much the whole time. Now, how does that happen... Rhea :) I know you know!

Rhea, I feel organized, but I think you blow me away with getting things done.

Tracy and Lita, I did XT for who knows how long, could have been 4-5 mo. Anyways, I do feel stronger doing STS now and it has to be from XT. I do notice that when I finish the STS workouts I feel physically tired, I think more so than before.

I am on week 2 of Meso 2. Also biking when we can.

Hi, Melinda, so happy to see you :D! Hard to believe you'll soon be swamped with school again! How much longer do you have to go?

I was quite surprised to be stronger after XT since it was only heavy weights one out of every two workouts. But hey - can't argue w/ success, right ;)?

Rhea - How goes that BFFM challenge :)?

Tracy - Give that darlin' BB a hug for me :D!

Lita, school starts Aug 21. We are suppose to find out our final clinical assignment any time now. I'm hoping I get the weekend like I requested so I can work more. Feeling a little nervous about that. I graduate Dec 6, then have to take the national boards test, which the date is given to you randomly, so it could actually be 3 months from my graduation. I sure hope it will be in Jan, not that much later. All I can do is submit my paperwork the first day it is available to do so and then it's out of my hands.

I have a phone interview today in about 1/2 hr. It is for another screening company, just hoping to be working for more than one so I can get more work. I am nervous, even after doing this 7 years now.

Melinda - Hope that screening call went well :D! Good luck getting the clinical assignment you requested. Gosh - I wouldn't want to take the Boards 3 months after classes finish, either !

Lita, interview went well. I put in all my paperwork today, but still have to pass background check and face to face. Then I have a 2 hour online training. I'll just take it one day at a time and should eventually make it through.

So I got an interesting phone call, solicitation. I still get calls at my house for people wanting to sell me stuff for my Curves which has been closed 7 years now. The lady called asking for the "person who makes the financial decisions for the business". I did not bother to say anything, I just hung up. This may sound rude, but I am not asking people to randomly call my house to sell me things, nor do I want people coming to my house. Anyways, the saleswoman called back, I let the answering machine get it the second time (first time I didn't check caller ID). She left a message saying that I was rude for hanging up on her and then wished me good luck with my business.

Melinda - I am so glad the interview went well . Hopefully the rest will go as smoothly as that part did. ROTFL - I can't believe she called you back and left that message ! The audacity of people never ceases to amaze me . I can't believe the # of solicitation calls I take here at work . I have no choice but to answer but I'm mighty quick to say "We're not interested, but thank you anyway." Click. I've learned if you try to be nice, 9 times out of 10 they just won't take 'no' for an answer and get downright pushy and obnoxious. I'm lucky that at home I don't have to ever answer my phone. When I hear someone I approve of leaving a message, I pick up. Other than that - no go, Joe ;).

Oh Melinda...that made me laugh! We keep getting calls at our house (newer number) for a business and no matter how many times google calls, they still can't get us off the call list.. hello, this is a residence not a business. But they have not called for a long time, so maybe....

BFFM....not doing too bad. Slow progress. I'm ramping up the nutrition aspect and the cardio aspect. Saw some good progress in the last two weeks, so here I come Cathe! I started doing the low impact/xtrain rotation, but the August one looks pretty fun. I haven't done some of those for a long time.

How's everyone else?

Hi babes!! I am glad to see you!! I LOL when I read the salesperson called back to say you were rude Melinda--that was great!! I am grateful for caller ID so I don't get the calls for the most part. Oh, and DH googled the possible new numbers we could choose from before we moved and we picked the one that had the least amount of info connected with it. :D And at work, I love nothing more than telling someone that they've called the attorney general's office and we don't accept solicitations. It usually scares them away.

Melinda, I can't believe 3 things! 1) It's been 7 years since you owned Curves; 2) you've been doing health screenings for 7 years; and 3) you're almost out of school!!!! WOW! Time sure does fly! I'm glad your interview went well too and that you have enjoyed your Summer!

Lita, I just couldn't cart a big truckload of stuff to Goodwill without at least trying to sell it first. There was just way too much stuff and alot of it was worth selling. I even sold our mini fridge to someone at work after the yard sale. We're debating about trying it again, in a busier neighborhood in a few weeks. Not alot of work is needed since everything is clean and priced already. We'll see.

Rhea, have fun with your time alone! I would love some of that, just like Lita! DH never seems to go anywhere. :( Anyhoo, don't work too hard! I have to say that 'cause I know you do....:)

I've been making my own rotations for my month off before XT/LI and I'm enjoying it. Even did an old Firm cardio today! I think I'll check out the August rotation and see what that's like. I am taking a staycation next week but I don't think there's going to be much relaxation in it....

Have a great, healthy week babes!

Wow - how fun to "see" all of you so recently !

Rhea - I enjoyed the XT and the XT/LI rotations. Haven't checked out the Aug rotation - might have to get around to that.... Good luck ramping up the cardio (no sacrifice for you, I know ;) ) and eating aspects. You go, girl :D!

Tracy - I'm sure you'd be horrified at how much I've given away the last several years ;). Several car loads... Oh well - hopefully I'm building up good karma if nothing else :p.

Tracy, I know, I can't believe it's been 7 years for all those things either. I know I talked about all that on this thread over the years, wow!

OK, so I have a question for you all. Do you find your weight fluctuates more as you are older. I feel mine does. And hoping this isn't TMI, but I'm either beginning menopause or the other P word. If that is true, which I doubt, our lives will be turned upside down. I am 47, my friend is a year older and says she has the same issues going on. I do not have hot flashes or night sweats, I did have night sweats at one time, but now that my thyroid is under control that doesn't happen and hasn't in over 5 years. My abdomen is bloated and I'm really watching what I eat, probably eating better than I have for a long time. I just weighed myself and I'm up 4 pounds since June 13. UGH!

Any of you gone or going through this.

Melinda - I can't tell you if my weight fluctuates more - I only weigh about 3 or 4 times a year and have always had a 5# range (well, since I lost weight on low carb). Before that, the weight range was more like 10 - 30#. For me, the biggest issue menopause & perimenopause brought was the SSS - shifting shape syndrome . I've weighed w/in 10 pounds the last 12 or more years yet my clothes size has changed quite a bit. And, I weigh less now than I did in my 20s - yet my jeans from back then don't fit. My thighs have gotten marginally smaller - my waist a lot bigger ....

There, that was uplifting, wasn't it :p?

Gee, thanks, Lita. I got a pregnancy test and took it, it's negative. But I had to rule that out. My stomach and abdomen are bigger, I have been eating healthy and exercising regularly. This is a bummer.
