Low Carbers and Friends - January 2011

Well look a whole new thread! LOL

I'm like, well, over whelmed at work right now, so I won't be here very much. Today, Wed, is the first I have been able to breath, but it is only a moment to catch my breath for the next round.

Haven't been working out even! Err. Took time off purposely, then Monday, back went out a bit so no workouts yet this week. Tomorrow would be an entire week off, but I think I'll get one in this afternoon. Feeling the itch for some cardio and I think my muscles need the stretch. Probably will help with getting rid of the muscle tension headache I already have this morning.

Well, I guess I had better get back to the grind.

Thanks for starting our new thread Lita!

Keisha, I have been eating mostly low carb for 7 years and I do just fine with Cathe's workouts. Protein fuels me better than anything else. I still enjoy fruits and veggies but carbs don't give me lasting energy.

Rhea, I hope you were able to enjoy some cardio and stretching, I'm sorry you are so overwhelmed at work!! Grrr.

Melinda, what are you up to?

Lita, what workouts are you doing this week? I hadn't done MM in ages so I broke my a$$ and just about everything else with that one on Monday. Yesterday I did Intensity for the first time and I really liked it which surprised me somewhat! I don't like HiiT but I liked it Lo and the step routine. I need to check out the Bootcamp part of it. Today was Core Foundations and it only froze on me once.

I was able to type this post in an efficient time because DH is playing with baby Basil! :D

Talk to you soon!

It looks like we are going full swing into 2011.

Rhea, I hope you don't have a long period of this stress. That sure is wearing on the body.

I did 4DS for 2 weeks, now I stared S&H, alternating with either cardio or pilates/yoga days. Tracy, I like the pyramid HIIT workout. I don't know if you were talking about the new series we just got or what. The pyramid one I'm talking about is only 30 min cardio and I like that a lot. I don't care for the other 2 HIIT workouts, though.

Lita, thanks for starting a new thread. How is your week going so far?

I started my class on Monday evening. It goes from 5:30 - 9:30 and takes up every bit of that time. In fact, we ran over Wed and I didn't get home until 10pm. OMG! It's a doozy and the instructor said that last quarter was the first quarter that she didn't have anyone fail the class. The problem is that you have skills tests and if you miss a step you lose a lot of points. Even if you do well on every part of the class, if you get less than 35 out of 50 for the final skills test, you fail the class. UGH!

There are 2 students in the class that failed the first time and are retaking it. I honestly don't see myself doing that. I will give it my all, but if I crash and burn, then I am rethinking this whole thing. We shall see.

DH is also in school now, doing a newly developed training program. It is 6 months. It is intense, so he is focusing on that. Well, it's something to get through the winter blahs.

Saturday we are doing wall climbing to try something different. I got a one month pass. Sat is the training class. Will let you all know how that goes.

Now, back to work!

(((Rhea)))! Sorry you're jumping right back into the stress pool so soon this year :(. And to have a wonky back and tension headache on top of it - wow . Hope you feel better soon - in ALL ways :)!

Tracy - I'm so glad you liked Intensity ! I like it too as long as I can block out the repetitive comments and counting. Some days I do better than others ;). As for my workouts, I'm basically doing short cardio segments followed by doubling a body part segment from PS. I vary exercises & order the second time through, though - I don't like it when exercise moves are repetitive, either :p.

Melinda - I know you'll do just great in that class :D! I think your outlook towards the whole thing is very wise - and hopefully that helps keep the stress level a bit lower. I wouldn't like the hours it is, though - wow! I like HiiT Pyramid, too. As for rock climbing - you go, girl! You and Tracy are just amazing with the different things you like to try. That's awesome!

Can you believe that more just got piled on to me!!! Arrg. And I having a hard time being even a bit sympathetic for my #$$%^^&boss. His son has a walnut sized mass on his leg (only seen in the X-ray) behind a fracture. Docs knew about this before Christmas. They said it was no big deal. But now, according to the boss, everything is rush rush rush. The biopsy is on Monday with surgery to take it out Tues. So he will be gone the ENTIRE week and I get to handle the entire office by myself. There are five long court calendars for me to prep and appear at....oh and he is gone for the rest of this week. Not that there is much left of it. He did offer for me to pick a week after my two trials are done (which are the week after next) and he would "cover" the calendars. Yeah, right. I'm not counting on it.

Okay, enough of my trials and tribulations (haha, I made a funny! trials.....lol) Back to the grind!

Rhea - That was a great funny :D :D :D!!!!!!! But I'm so sorry that jerk is still dumping on you without thinking a thing about it . Hope his son is okay - but it seems to me that any excuse works for this guy! My thoughts and prayers are with you! I know you can do it - I just wish you didn't have to!!!!

Went wall/rock climbing today. Had trust issues at first, but DH and I both got used it. I only made it to the top once because I didn't have a big enough grip at most points of the wall. DH made it to the top 3 times I think. I'm feeling it in my forearms and calves. Was fun and low key. We have a 1 month pass, will probably go a couple more times.

Hi babes!! Rhea, my heart goes out to you and my anger goes to your boss!!!!! I'm keeping you in my thoughts and sending you strength! As for your boss's promise of time, off, can you get it in writing that he'll cover things? I'm serious!!!

Melinda, I know you will do really well in your class, you work hard and you are very smart! And good luck to DH too!

I've never tried wall climbing but I'd give it a go if I got the opportunity!

Lita, you are so creative! I just follow the dvd, or the instructor of our meetup group! Indoor stair climbing is still going on, with a once a week P90X workout. I haven't done either in weeks 'cause of the pooch. Hoping to next Monday, today was Supersets.

Have a good, stree-free week babes!

In writing that he'll cover things? ROFLMAO!!!! I'll survive this week, but it will be just survive, I"m already exhausted from yesterday's marathon court calendar. I believe that I talked straight from 12:30 to 5:30! Went home, drank, ate, slept (sort of...not a good nights sleep darn it) and then got up to start it all over again today. I'm not sure how he thought I was supposed to be in court at 8:30, with client appointments starting at 9:00, with another court department calendar starting at 10:30? Oh, and be prepared to preliminary hearings tomorrow for a whole set of different clients. ARRRRRG. Oh well. that's life. But I'm sure not paid enough to do all this work. BTW, what's a workout? I've forgotten.

Oh gosh, Rhea - I sure wish I/we could make things better for you :(!!!! What a hectic schedule and what a bunch of stress - and all because of The Jerk (now known as TJ)! I think maybe your first workout back should be a serious boxing/kickbox workout to let go of some stress that surely is making you feel like exploding !

Tracy - Ah shucks .... I don't know if it's inventive - or just headstrong and the sign of a wandering mind :p.

Melissa - How are you holding up with that class :)? How's your weather? Did that NE storm get you, too?

This week I wanted to get back to doing heavier weights but wasn't mentally psyched for S&H so I am doing GS w/ modifications. Also, I know studies suggest that doing Hiit AFTER weight work is best so even though I detest saving the cardio until last, I'm going to try it for a week or two. Ergo, my week is:
Su - L&G, GS shoulders (no band work - did extra DB work), most CoreMax 2
(didn't add cardio - L&G is always gets me huffing & puffing enough for some reason)
M - GS biceps, Intensity step portion, x stretch (the high impact I'm doing this week deserves x stretching!)
Tu - GS triceps, HiiT: 40/20, abs from Boot Camp (the original)
W - GS back, HiiT: Pyramid, x stretch
Th - GS chest, Intensity floor Hiit, x stretch

Lita, that looks like a good rotation. I haven't done GS in a long time. I'm doing a second week of S&H beginning today with chest/back. But maybe I'll do GS next week.

Rhea, that is a crazy schedule. I'm sure your boss would never put anything in writing about promisses! I'm sure the lack of sleep is stress, I do the same thing when my work gets crazy.

Tracy, were you ever going to try the step climbing thing with the group. DH actually used to do 23 flights of steps when he was working at a high rise building.

Class is stressful. UGH! I kind of feel sick to my stomach a lot when I have to go, but I will survive.

Melinda - I am so sorry your class is effecting you like that :(. How much longer do you have the class? Thinking of you & sending cyber support your way!

Lita, the older I get it seems when I do something new I get like this more. You'd think it would be the opposite, that as I get older and wiser, things would get easier. i was more carefree when I was younger, I'm sure that's what it is.

So all my practice paid off. The teacher said I was 1000% times improved from Monday and she could tell I had put a lot of effort into my skills. Yea! I think I've got an inkling as to how I need to prepare now for this class. I go M & W and the last class will be Mar 14. We don't have class on Mon for MLK day.

Melinda - See - I knew you'd nail this class :D! You are just so awesome! I am glad the teacher noticed and gave you credit for all your hard work!

As for new things, I know just what you mean! I have gotten more forward in some respects but I really dread new things or even anything that ruins my routine. I am worse than set in my ways ... and a big 'fraidy cat, at that ....

Fri: pilates
Sat: wall climbing. OMG we did so much better today. Last week I only made it to the top once. Today I made it 5 times and on harder walls. Fear was way down. My arms are wiped out but I felt really empowered. I still wouldn't do that on a mountain/real rock!

So this may sound corney, but I'll say it anyways. This wall climbing is like a metaphor for life. The first week, I was so afraid of falling. My fear held me back, I did not trust in much more than myself. I did not go very far. Today, I was scared at first. At some point I lost most of the fear, I trusted DH and the ropes and went straight up. When I was afraid, I did not see the possible handles to hold onto. It looked impossible. Today, with the fear being gone, even small handles proved to be helpful in making it to the top. What a feeling! It's hard to describe the feeling of accomplishment. This could be said for anything in life that gets held back because of our fears.

I know, this is coming from someone who was getting sick to her stomach before class. I am still learning!

Hi babes! Rhea, my heart goes out to you! I agree you don't get paid enough to put up with the #@%&$*! crap you are!! I hope it ends soon! As well as TJ's position!!!!! I remember getting so frustrated at my last job when no one cared that my boss was horrible to me. I really hope you have someone to go to to discuss this. In the meantime, I'm having a glass of wine for you right now!

Melinda and Lita, I am with you both on getting more fearful with change or new challenges now than I was when I was younger. I think some of it has to do with how much time has passed since we were learning new things year after year. But I know you work hard Melinda and I had no doubt that you would acheive excellence in your class. :D

And your analogy was right on too Melinda! Although I don't have anything physical to show, I was petrified when I got Baby Basil since I've never owned a dog but told myself that many others have been successful raising dogs and children (which are harder) and I pushed forward and am getting better. I still have a lot to learn though--DH seems to tell me something new about puppies every day!

Lita, do you like Intensity's Hi and Lo Hiit? I like your workout list for the week! I only got 2 workouts in this past week, but it was due to appts and stuff. Well, we did get some exercise today with BB--when he runs, it takes a lot to keep up with him!

Hope you all have a peaceful week!

Melinda - Wow, that's a great analogy!!!!

Tracy - I definitely think you're on to something! Yes, I do like the HiiT on Intensity but keep in mind, I have to modify everything so what I do is nothing like the "real McCoy" :p.

Today was GS Legs but of course I changed it. I went slower on the singles and on all the low ends, I went even slower and YOWZA, I could hardly walk down the steps when I was done! I didn't do the low end lunges at the end, either - I was more than ready to hit the floor by that time !

Don't think I'll do the daily cardio this week - I don't like what it does to my legs . Most likely I'll do GS as is and then add in two longer cardio days (or one longer cardio day if I get a lot of walking in).

Tracy, I didn't know you were afraid to get a dog? Why was that? I love dogs, but probably won't own any again unless I'm retired. I love having pets period. I think my soul aches for one when I don't have them. They can be frustrating at times, but also give peace. There was a time when DH said he could take them or leave them, but I have converted him. that is the honest truth, here we are in this house 90% of the time all together with the cats and they become a big part of our lives.
