losing strength and stamina

Hi everyone,

The good news is I am pregnant! (Some of you may recall I had a thread a while back ago about weaning my daughter to get pregnant. FYI-no weaning at all and pregnant at her 17 months. Surprise it was!)

But my God. I feel so wiped out. I wake up every morning feeling so hungover. (My latest theory is that I am dehydrated in conjunction with chronically sleep deprived.) Hence, I can't wake up before my daughter like I usually do to workout. And by the time she is ready for a nap, so am I!

I can do a short session of modified weight lifting with her around, but not cardio. She wants to hang all over me. I feel concerned about not exercising. I need my strength and stamina. I don't want to lose what I have in the first trimester. I doubt I will be able to get back to this level while pregnant or post-partum. Will I ever get a good workout in the next 7 months?????

Hi Jeanne.

First let me say congrats!:)

I am in my 5th month of pregnancy and remember the first trimester well! I was beat! I was lucky enough not to suffer from any morning sickness or anything like that but tired? OH MY was I tired! Some how though I was able to push myself to exercise still...Granted, it wasn't as often as I was used to or with the intensity I was used to but still, I did what I could and that's all that should be expected. After about the 1st 2 months I started to regain my energy so I began to work out more and more...Now in month 5 I am exercising as often as I used to (4 to 6 days a week depending on my schedule) but I have kept the intensity lower for safety.

Be patient, give your body the rest is craves right now, and I'm sure you will be able to bounce back before you know it! The energy DOES return! ;)

Congratulations Jeanne!

Like Wendy mentioned, I too tired easily and just did what I could concerning my workouts. Since I also work, it seemed I only had the energy in my first trimester to workout on the week-ends, after a good night's sleep first thing in the morning. Do what you can- and you will get energy back in your second trimester!
