Loose Skin

Hey all,

I'm relatively new to Cathe (about 2 months) and I have a 2.5 year old and a 14 month old. I'm finally starting to feel "fit" again - not just back to my old weight. I know my stomach will never look the same again (darn those stretch marks!) but I'm wondering if there is much I can do about the loose skin. When I stand up my stomach is flat and feels toned but sitting down or bending over (YIKES) makes me feel like all I have is flab! I'm working out about five days a weke but not noticing a huge difference. My legs and arms seem to be changing but my stomach is just yuck. I don't own any Cathe videos - just been working off of what's offered on Fit TV and I'm anxious to purchase the software that will help me do mixes of her others but any advice until then will be greatly appreciated!

thanks,
angie

I hate to be the bearer or bad news, but there is nothing short of surgery that will take care of that loose skin. I have two children, ages 6 and 7, and I have enough loose skin hanging off my lower belly to make a purse. Gross. Like you, my stomach is flat if I'm standing, but if I sit it puddles on my thighs, and if I bend over it hangs and blows in the breeze. I have been working out with Cathe and The Firm 5 days a week for nearly 7 years, and was an avid runner before I had children. This is a futile battle I have been fighting for a long time, unfortunately.

I have been to doctors about it a few times, and they have all said that a mini-tuck is the only thing I could do to fix it since it's not an issue of excess fat; it's just skin. My abs underneath are rock solid, and that just makes it more frustrating. GRRRR!! My genes are against me on this one. This is hard for me because I never had this issue until after the kids were born, and I want my abs to look as great as my arms and legs.

*sigh*I guess I should be happy that my abs are flat when I stand, and that my little problem isn't too obvious to others. I feel your pain, and I wish I had a magic solution for you. If I find one, I'll be sure to let you know!

Natalie,

Thanks for the response. While it is seemingly bad news, it is also helpful for me to put everything in perspective. If I knew going into having kids that it would change my body forever I would hands down do it again! Sometimes I have to remind myself that wearing a bikini at the pool is NOT the most important thing in life! I'll accept who I am and the body God gave me and work as I can to be healthy and fit!

Have a great day!

Angie,

That's just how I feel! I have to look at it as my "badge of motherly honor." My body has a greater purpose than bikini wearing, that's for sure!

I could look on the bright side and say that my saggy belly just matches my poor, saggy, I-nursed-two-babies-with-them breasts.

:p
