Looking for San Francisco Bay Area home-gym experts

Humanhair

Cathlete
Hello Educated Crowd, I'm a San Francisco-based freelance writer and dedicated Cathe fan. I'm writing a story for the SF Chronicle about how to assemble your own home gym. I thought I'd take a chance and post here, in case there's anyone on the forums who lives in the Bay Area, has a home gym, and would like to be profiled for the newspaper. The story will focus on assembling a home gym on three budgets: cheap (dumbells, bands, and a jumprope, etc.) mid-range (weights and bench, maybe a bike or stepper and of course, a VCR!), and top-of-the-line (cardio equipment, a universal, maybe a spa?). I'm also looking for SF-Bay Area-based fitness trainers who can comment authoritatively on home-gym equipment. The article will appear in the Chronicle's Living section, on the fitness pages. Please email me at [email protected] if you're interested.

Thanks!

Caroline, your screen name is an LOL'er!

Living in the great sovereign state of Minnesota, obviously I'm not in SF, but you may want to log onto the ACE and IDEA websites (www.acefitness.org; www.ideafit.com); I think I recall articles from both organizations on building a home gym within a variety of budgets. Also, I think each organization maintains a roster of trainers and instructors organized by region; you may get some good referrals to local trainers/instructors from them.

Good luck!

Annette

Thanks Annette, that's a great suggestion. Another Cathe fan just let me know that my post had been forwarded to videofitness.com because there's a big Bay Area contingent on there. Thanks again (I feel like I know you - I read your posts nearly everyday).

Please tell me!

Although it's none of my business, I've just got to know why your screen name is Humanhair. :)

Thanks for letting me be nosy...

RE: Please tell me!

Ack! Because one of my kooky friends suggested it and I thought it was funny. So many of the screen names I typed in were taken already. I'd like to change it, though. I'm going to see if I can.

Can you send us a link to your article if it is published on the internet? Or post an address where we can request a copy? Sounds interesting!

Rhonda

Thanks Rhonda, I don't know if they're going to publish it online. But I'll most likely scan the article because I'll use it as a clip. It's supposed to be in the Sept. 2 issue. I'll try and make a point to trumpet it on the forum, and then I'll email it to anyone who wants to read it!
thanks for your interest!

It sounds interesing Caroline...I would like to read it as well. I am in the process of moving and want to get a nice exercise area in the new old house set up. I have the basic...a very good weight bench, dumbbells, bar and recumbant bike...and TV with video...but am open to new ideas also.
