Look weird? upper heavy, legs light?

I have been doing upperbody heavy for the past two months and have seen some results. I am doing lower body with only ankle weights with cathes floor work. My question is, should I go light on upper body since I have no choice but to go light on my legs. don't know how long I have to go light on legs. Will my arms and upperbody look dispeportional?

I guess this question makes since.

You know, I think this is a very interesting question. I had a trainer tell me 2 weeks ago that my arms looked great but my legs were out of proportion so I should start doing more squats & presses. Which I already do, & very heavy.

I think much of this has to do with genetics. Truthfully Kim I think you should do what you most enjoy. While it's difficult to put on muscle mass, it's pretty easy to lose it. If you're having fun w/the heavy upper body workouts stick with it. If you start to see yourself growing out of proportion, switch to lower weights & higher reps.

That's the beauty of being in fitness for the long haul. You can experiment & have fun w/it.

I'd say experiment, if your still getting results with your legs, then you can work your upper body heavily. Since I can't see you, it's kind of hard to say yes or no about looking disporpotional. Now if your upper is developed like Cathe and your lower basically looks skinny like a model then yes you'll look funny but only if you wear a short skirt and a tank top.

If you enjoy working heavy with your arms go ahead, you can always cover up the lower part, and a lot of times I've notice just working the upper body still works the lower body some and it will get in shape, but just a bit behind the upper body.

I don't know what your goals are, but look in the mirror and see for yoruself.

Hi kit,

My goal now is to still look fit. I injured my foot 2 mths. ago and I can only do floor work with ankle weights right now. I have lost muscle in my leg since I haven't done heavy weights. I always have had muscular legs, but they have fat on them now. If I do light weights with my upperbody will I lose the muscle I have now?

Thanks for any help you or anyone can give.

Kim,

You'll lose the muscle on your upper body if you use light weights for a period of time, about 3 weeks to a month you'll start to notice a little difference in strength. It will be a lot slower then it was on your legs, but that's normal, but it will slowly tapper down to your new level of weight lifting.

If what your trying to do is not get any more muscle on your upper body, simply, use the weights you've been using, do the exact same amount of reps etc. No change basically and you won't improve but you won't lose anything either, you'll just maintain. That might be the easiest to do until your legs catch up, and then you can set new goals for both the upper and lower body.
