Maybe it's just me? But I'm sooooooo bothered by this...
I'm renting from this woman (a NY 1 bedroom apartment). It is her place (so the furniture and everything else is hers), but I'm paying half of the rent. I'm staying in the bedroom and she's staying in the living room.
Here's what has been happening...
#1 At first she used to just walk into my room (she has a closet with her things in there) without knocking. I talked to her about that, she apologized and that has been fine now. But... she still goes into that room when I'm not there, and not just to take her things, but she also moves my things around. For example, yesterday I came home and I she was being SUPPER (almost fake) nice to me, complimenting how nice I look..etc. Then she goes.. "I took down the curtains in your room because they're collecting dust and you don't need to be breathing that." That is total fine with me that she's talking those curtains, they're hers anyway. What bugs me is that #1 the reason she took them down was not because she was concerned about my health but because she needed to hang them in her doorway (she stays in the living room..no door... and I'm in the bedroom). Also, I guess while she was taking down these curtains she exigently unplugged my computer! x( And THAT is why she was all nice to me. In my opinion, since I'm paying for that room, she shouldn't be going in there without my permission, especially if she moves and unplugs things.
#2 The bedroom that I'm staying in had 2 beds. I only used one of them, but that one day I was folding my laundry and had my clothes on the other bed. One day I come home, the bed is gone (which is fine.. her bed anyway) but my clothes which were nicely folded are on the other bed, all over the place. I mean, if she wants the bed, she can take the bed, but DO NOT touch my clothes! She could've just waited till I got home and I would've moved the clothes.
#3 She totally blamed me for the fact that her tea pot had some red marks on it. When I told her that it's not from me, she answered in a very rude way "yeah I thought you'd say that". Then the next day when I went to make some tea I figured out where those lines came from... She drinks this beat juice every morning and leaves her unwashed cup right next to the tea pot! When I showed it to her she was just like "Oh yes you're right, oh well, nothing I can do now." Didn't even apologize!
#4 I use her kitchen wear and she uses mine... but I always wash everything after myself, she RARELY does. I come home sometimes, ready to make dinner, and my pan is all greesy x( That groses me out soooo much. I mean if she wants to use my things, she can go right ahead, but PLEASE wash after yourself!
Also, I'm hardly ever home, and sometimes I have a feeling that when I'm not home she looks around the room I'm staying in. Not necessarily goes through my things, but walks in and looks around.
She's not a bad person, and she means well. But she just has no manners and no sense of my privacy. She's also not the most intelligent person, so I can't really sit down to talk and sort things out with her.
I can't really move out anywhere at this point. I'm still looking for a job in Graphic Design and my parents are paying for the apartment until I do. My father's aunt knows her and that is how I got to stay here. So my only option is to figure out how to deal with this. Am I taking things too seriously?
If not, anything I can do about this?
ANY advice would be very appreciated. I can't take her anymore! x(
